viewing videos on PS3 issues!!

Hey folks,

I've been downloading the Running Man episodes from this site and for some reason, the .avi files downloaded are not recognized by my ps3, and when I try and convert the files using the divx converter, it doesn't recognize it either.

Any suggestions??

Maybe the file you downloaded isn't an .avi file, but something else (e.g. mp4, flv, etc.).

You can find out the file type and the used codec with file checkers like MediaInfo or GSpot.

how do I install codec on my ps3?

I have no problem watching the file on my computer, it only becomes an issue when I try and play it on my ps3.

Maybe you should just download something like "Format Factory" and convert this .avi into an .avi.
Sounds silly, but it often helps...

Hi, you are not giving us enough info about that file, so nobody knows what codec is in that .avi container like, H264 or divx or xvid or some crazy flash stuff.
The only tip I can give you is, get a up to date encoding program. I use XMedia Recode for trans/encoding, you only need to click on encode to PS3 and the prog will set everything up for you.

youcan't install codecs on PS3 lol , the user who suggested it probably doesn't evenknow what a PS3 is , i can suggest you to download Xilisoft Video Converter , i use it to convert all videos to PS3 format and is the best converter around.

if your PS3 and your PC are connected to the same network, you can use this http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/ to stream the files to the PS3. They will be converted by the software. Might be the easiest way, if both devices are on the same network.

Or you can use "PS3 Media Server".

You install on your computer, then you execute it with the playstation on.

The icon of the media server will appear on your PS3 underneath the video tab and other tabs as well.

You click with the Xon the icon and you'll be able to access all your computer files through the media server, and you can open your videos with no problem, because the media server convert for your PS3 as you watch.

I used a lot, but now I prefer to record on a re-writable dvd again and again. ;P

If this method cant solve the issue, why not convert the avi file to a mp4 and put onto your PS3 to check if workable.
PS3 reads avi and mp4 file well.
I have no idea whether this software will work but worth giving it a try.
