Problems with Viewing Video

Post by Teesan » Sep 10th, '07, 01:16

I'm currently having troubles with playing a video that I've downloaded.

I first downloaded it in 4 parts (in AVI format). When I play the video in Media Player Classic, it only plays half the video (19 minutes instead of 42 minutes). I used HJSplit to join the four parts. However when I play the video in RealPlayer, it can play the full video.

I was wondering what problems could lead to this? I need to play the video in MPC in order to view subs.

Thank you!

@Teesan: Emmm okay... excluding the RealPlayer for now...

It is in 4 parts... in terms of .001/.002/.003/.004? If so then you'd have to join them with HJSplit and that should rwork.. But if it isn't in .001/.etc then you probably have to append/merge all 4 together and VirtualDubMod can do that...

A little more information helps a bit, as yeah I am just going with the obvious. Sorries

Yes, I have already merged the video parts that came in .001/.002/.003/.004 with HJSplit.

However when I try to view it with MPC it only shows half the video versus Realplayer.

What does VirtualDubMod do?

@Teesan: Well if they are .001 files then VDubMod won't help much... VDubMod is a Program that most Encoders in Fansub Groups use to well add in Subs to Videos or simply merge 2 .avi's into one.

But then I do find it a bit weird that when you Join them with HJSplit and play it... Only half shows but then in RP it plays the full length... have you tried playing that file with a different player, Windows Media Player?

Cause yeah, not too sure what the problem is... Mehs.

@Teesan: Hmmm don't have the Codec... Interesting... and it is .avi Format... Hmmm happen to be able to check the Codec that was used/ Open the file and right click, properties and see under 'Details'

Should be something like
Video:
Audio:

By Video what does it say? Cause only thing I am thinking is... They didn't encode with XviD/DivX which can bring up some problems.. And used H264 with .avi container which I find a bit yeah... not wise =X...

Not really helping much but just seeing what I can do...

I tried right clicking the file (the video file)...and when I go to properties, I couldn't find a place that says "Details"..So I tried "Summary" it doesn't show anything. Also when I go to "Advanced Attributes"...there is a place where it says "details" but I'm unable to click on it.

Interesting... Let me be more specific as I was going off the top of my head before.

Using MPC, play the file... Right click -> Properties.

New Window should have the Tabs 'Clip' and 'Details', Click 'Details' and it is in a Shaded Box that eh Video/Audio information is shown.

And I don't think OS would make a difference in this although I assume you are using XP.

If you can't get that far.. then ehh lol I am out of ideas.. Would suggest dl'ing codecs but then yeah..

The following information was shown when I clicked onto Details~while playing it with MPC:

Type: Video Clip
Size: 394mb (this is unusally strange because when I DL-ed this, it was supposed to be 700-ish MB.)

Media Length: 19:49
Video Size: 704 x 396

Hehe is there a box below that that says

Video
Audio

As hehe wrong info..

But from that I can see that .003/.004 might have been corrupt which is why you are only getting half o the video... But then not too sure as to why RealPlayer is showing the full video.. Did you check it and all is fine? Or are there parts that just last a while...

Silly question, are all the parts named the same (with the .001/.002/.003/.004)?

Silly question.......?

I downloaded them in four files that came in (.001/.002/.003/.004). But I merged them with HJSplit....

There isn't a Video or Audio box in the properties. Not under "Clip" or "details"

@Teesan: Hmms.. It isn't separate boxes... Under the area you typed up for me.. should be a shaded box and in it should read something like this:

Video: XVID 640x480 29.97fps [Stream 00]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 192Kbps [Stream 01]

Teh thing I am worred about is if yours says XVID or something else.

(I know what you mean..by where it should be) But sorry....It just isn't there...the shaded box...is empty.
