when someone asked me how old i was, i'd almost always say 20... and i just turned 22, still had to think before i answer. but when ordering alcohol, they always asks for my id.. one time we were wine tasting at some vineyards, they asked for my id when they just let my 18yo cousin drink without checking his id. :glare:

Thanks Learner, I don't feel so alone anymore and maybe we're the oldest around here. :)
Well, somebody has to be the oldest, just as somebody has to be the youngest.

And JadedAngel, maybe you feel more at home here.

This is then not really a generation gap. I guess we've to think of another/new description for losing touch with people only a few years youngers. :)
Too sad though.

:lol Yes, but I've been on the end of both situations, and neither one leaves me feeling any better. Luckily for me most days I pass for no older than 15, 17 with makeup, until someone questions it....I just wonder how long this will hold out. I dread the day when someone'll call me "ma'am".......

Do you really look that young? Enjoy it, but the day that they call you ma'am will come sooner or later and it will hurt you for sure. But wisdom comes with age :)
And you can't stay in touch with everyone, you're developing yourself all the time, so do other people, no matter what their age or background and friends also drift apart because of other interests, hobbies, work and education. It's natural and I shouldn't take it to hard. You'll meet lots of new people with whom you'll feel happy.

I'm still having problems when people call me mister or sir. I feel also a lot younger than my age. But then again, I meet a lot of youngsters who don't have the courtesy to adress me properly.
In a lot of cultures they have respect for the elderly, here in our civilized culture everybody has to be good looking, young and skinny otherwise you can forget it.
You are what you are and if people don't like you because of your age or looks, too bad for them.

Turning 30 this year. I don't have a clue if I look my age or not. :lol Once in awhile someone mistakes me for a college student. But that immediately gets me thinking, "Is it because I look young or act young?!" I am an Asian female, so I suppose it's expected.

:lol Yes, i do look that young. I try to deny it sometimes, usually when people start picking on me, but just even doing things like voting or buying a lottery ticket requires me to show ID. Usually its not a problem for me except the I get hit on a lot by high school boys who don't know. Yes, I know I better enjoy it because I know there will come a day when everything will change. But if I'm like my mother, she's in her 40s but people think she's 33, it won't be for awhile................And I understand what you mean by the respect thing, I see it happening around me often.

I'll have to say 100 :P

Anyhoo, for one of my first teaching assignments one of the kids came up and asked me if I was the new grade 7 student (he didn't know I was his going to be his teacher...lol) - I was shocked...grade 7 means someone's about 12 years old. I know I look really young but 12 years old! Another time someone - my doctor's receptionist thought I was 13.

Kind of sucks though - it's harder to be respected when they don't think you look old enough to even work or go to university.

Lookig younger/older than you're really are can be an advantage and in some situations a disadvantage. You have to make the best of it. But I think you much better off looking yonger than older nowadays. Does your mother sees this as a problem, looking 10 years younger. It's also different whether you're in your twenties or in your forties.
So enjoy your young looks. You can't win them all :)

I'm almost 22 (april baby), but my firends who are younger than me still treats me like i'm a 7 year old kid and orders me around. They say I look lost all the time like a kid who lost her way home. :-)

In a few months I'll be in the 19-25 range where everyone else seems to be. until then, I'll bask in the glory of being in the minority <--kinda an oxymoron, isn't it? =P

Gah, online polls about age always make me feel old! Also makes me feel like I should be doing some more 'adult' or productive rather than browsing a discussion forum, heh.

People over 30 still have lives, you know. We don't all walk with sticks and play bingo. :cussing:

twenty-three?! cripes! i thought you were way older than that.

great. just great. you and dochira are going to start calling me 'gramps' soon.
Haha. Unless you're close to being an actual grampa, you won't hear that from me....At least not directly to your face. :lol

I turned 21 on 'Turkey-Day' (Thanksgiving) of last year. ^_^ But I still feel like I'm 15...that's a good thing right?? :P

Wow, look at all the 19-25 people compared to the rest! :blink

Oh btw, I just noticed because I'm slow, but there's 12-15 and 15-18. Maybe it should be changed to 12-14 and 15-18 or 12-15 and 16-18.
