Taiwanese, though born in the US. I can't understand much of it; it's mostly guess work. I can speak mandarin though. Reading and writing it is a whole other story. XD

It so fascinating the diversity of people here, it was

I'm Asian-American. If someone doesn't guess that I'm some sort of Asian then they guess that I'm of some sort of Hispanic origin.

On my mom's side, we're originally Laotian but moved around to Cambodia and Thailand a few generations back. I can only speak Laos and can't read it at all.

My dad is Vietnamese. We could be part Chinese as well but we're not really too sure. I can hardly speak Vietnamese since the only Viet relative close by is my dad; whereas I've got Laotian relatives left and right around here (San Diego, CA). I can't read Vietnamese, either.

I took four years of Spanish and absolutely hated it. I can read and write it fine but can't hold a conversation for the life of me. I can, at most, pick out a few words from a conversation and make a guess as to what people are talking about.

I want to learn my native languages and add Japanese and Korean to my list.

I'm American. My ancestors come from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, and the Netherlands... so basically I am really pale and sunburn after about 15 minutes in the sun. (^-^)

I'm a native speaker of English. However, based on the comments of my professors on papers, I wouldn't say that I'm very good at it. I've taken Japanese at college and studied abroad for a semester in Tokyo. I've also taken courses in Spanish, Latin, and German, but forgotten pretty much everything.

I'm Filipino - don't speak Tagalog nor understand it very well. However I can understand Ilocano (ii-lo-ka-no) which is a more "Native" Filipino language (almost totally different from Tagalog and dialect wise as well) rather well.

One thing I hate about Filipino language is that its romanized - I wish we had some kind of alphabet / syllable latter. Words can get jumbly - I'm not used to reading. Especially sounds which involve no vowels...

I Live in Souther California - Los Angeles (near Los Angeles City College). Born and raised here, in a good clean neighborhood located about 3 blocks from a Filipino / Latino church and Private Christian school.

I can speak in English (lol), some Ilocano (don't bet your life on it), and some Japanese (read and write as well) took Japanese Elementary 1 and 2 for 1 year in college. Aiming for Japanese Intermediate 3 this year.

I think quite many people say they speak some language even if they have studied it for (a little) while. I'm a Finn and yea, I have studied Finnish, Swedish, German, English, Korean and Japanese, but I'd never say I actually spoke any other than Finnish and English unless I really thought I'd be able to survive from everyday life with that language.

However, I'm sure there are bilingual etc people here as well.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...that's why I didn't include Japanese. Unless you can be a great fansubber, I don't think you have the right to say that you can speak it hahahaha

I am a Hmong-American. I speak (only the white dialect of but can make out some of the green dialect of) Hmong and English. I can understand some Spanish (North American Spanish of course) but speak very minimal phrases like "hello/goodbye", "how are you", "don't hang up" and "please hold for a moment". Took 3 years of French but that was ages ago and never used it because never got to go to France, and no one I knew spoke French so only know the basics now. Know some phrases in Mandarin, Japanese and Korean from watching dramas, but wanting to learn them of course. I have learn that we do use similar words/phrases here and there, especially Mandarin since the Hmong did live (and some still do live there) in China. Need to learn Spanish. Also, would like to learn Thai/Laos because planning to visit there again and it would be nice to know how to communicate if I get lost before I reach family there who can speak for me.

I am Greek 100% but many people say I look a little mixed with Asian blood. I think it's mostly because of my grandma who looks like she is Asian (only with green eyes) cause I take after her a lot. So if I say that I have a Japanese grandmother people believe me! (I also attribute that to the fact that I speak Japanese with a good accent)

So other than Greek (which is a hell of a difficult language), I speak English fluently, Japanese semi-fluently and French but wish to learn Spanish and Korean as well.

I'm American, black American if you want to get politically correct, and beside my native English I can speak some French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean.
