Aya Ueto to play "Japanese Paris Hilton"
Sun, August 10, 2008 (5:38pm EDT)
This fall, Fuji TV is producing a drama series called "Celeb to Daihinmin," a romantic comedy starring Aya Ueto and Yusuke Kamiji. Ueto's role is said to be inspired by American celebrity Paris Hilton.
The story revolves around Alice Hirata (Ueto), the spoiled and naive daughter of a wealthy hotel magnate. On the other hand, Kamiji plays an impoverished widower raising three children. Between the two contrasting characters, romance is born.
In charge of the drama are producer Hiroyuki Goto and director Hidetomo Matsuda, who both worked on the popular "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e" television series. Fuji TV will broadcast "Celeb to Daihinmin" at 9:00pm on Tuesdays, starting in October.
i'm not a big fan of Ueto Aya (though i do think she is very pretty)... i'm excited that Kamiji Yusuke got a leading role (already)!
edit//this counts as somewhat of an official announcement i guess?? after all it is a Fuji TV drama....
I love Ueto Aya! She needs to come here so I can hug her! It says this drama is inspired by Paris Hilton and I don't like Paris that much... so I dunno if I will like this drama. I tend to like her more light hearted dramas where she acts crazy so I might like this one. It's only midway through the summer season. Wait till the current dramas are almost over and you will get more activity.
omg why is this thread so dead while it's almost airing! @$%!!
it's UETO AYA you know playing a diffrent role she ever played before!!
i'm glad she's FINALLY playing something girly-like and in a drama of romance!!
PLUS the director of hanazakari no kimitachi e worked on this so it must be good..
Anyway, it looks pretty fun, though I'm not expecting anything spectacular. But should Kamiji even be doing dramas right now? They've been saying he's like the busiest celeb in Japan right now, and that was while he wasn't even doing any dramas...

wow really? he's the least person i'd expect to be a busy celeb in japan
why is he so famous? did he do anything special?
I watched it live.. I must say... I LOVE THIS DRAMA!!!! Aya and Yusuke are Perfect.. Great Chemistry.. If this is going to get poor ratings.. then the ratings are totally flawed. Well don't really care about ratings. But this Drama is Great!!! I can't say enough. The RAW dl will take forever but it will be worth it.

I just watched the 1st episode. Unexpectedly, I kinda like it. This is a really different type of role for aya. I'm interested to know what happens next. Can't wait for episode 2.
Yuup, i love th first episode. I love how kamiji acting.
I think he's fascinating. Not handsome like the other, but he has aura to distract people..
I like this pairing!!
Not only that, he also got a Guiness world record for the most unique visitors in a personal blog within 24 hours. Lol. I have read some of his posts on his blog, some were funny sometimes its just nonsense lol. but on top of that a pretty interesting blog to follow, if you can read Japanese that is lol
I watched the first episode of this last night, and it kinda felt like I was watching an alternate universe of Yamada Taro Monogatari. It's not just the poor guy named Taro living in a shack and caring for a group of adorable kids teaches a bored rich person the value of being poor angle either. It's all those little details like the garden they keep to feed the family, the scenes of the family splitting a meager portion of food between them with awed reverance, the little girl's clothing having to be handsewn by the poor male rolemodel since they couldn't afford anything, the dream of someday being able to eat hamburgers... I felt like I was an air guitar away from Taro sometimes.
However, there were several things that I prefer about this Taro. For one, it's great to have a devoted father figure leading this bunch. Yamada Taro's useless parents often made me wonder just where the heck Child Services is in Japan, because those two were way too selfish and incompetant to have that many children in their care.
This episode had some good laughs, and I'm interested in the next one. I really liked Kamiji, and there is something really cute about him, imo.

Yeah, very similar to Yamada Taro but I agree that at least in this one it is the dad rightfully taking care of his own kids, not the oldest brother. I couldn't stand the Yamada parents.
Finished watching the first ep a few hours ago...
Its was pretty good, the runway part was a little cheesy though.
The guy looked hotter in the picture.
LOL.
I watched the first two episodes one right after another, and I've got to say that I like it quite a bit. I actually wasn't expecting to like it this much. Obviously the story is something we've seen over and over, and everything is pretty cliche, but it's just executed really well. I've never liked Ueto Aya much, but I think she's pretty good in this one. I've only seen Kamiji in minor drama roles until now (ROOKIES, Haken no Hinkaku), but he's actually better than I expected. And of course, this drama has also got a very good supporting cast, making it all the better.
I see the correlations that people make with other dramas like HYD and Yamada Taro, but it's not like those were original either. Yamada Taro fell apart as it kept progressing though, so hopefully it doesn't end up like that.
Ive just finished the first ep and i got to say its a great drama as i expected what i really loved about the drama that it does not only foucs in the 2 main character also im so crazy in love the alice clothes and i cant wait to see next ep

same here, i loved all the clothes she was wearing
also, hairsyles *__* i liked aya's long dark hair the most
The first episode was alright, it had some good moments like with he's kids. But I was trying to figure out why the rich girl was even interested in the guy and why she even went to he's house the first time and ate in he's house, felt really odd and force. My only guess it has something to do with her mother? But even that hasn't been explained yet as to what's up with her mother.

yeah...agreed on the part about alice suddenly turn up at taro's house , really kinda forced.
but somehow i got a feeling, the mom is 'staging' something.. in order to make alice to turn into someone more sympathetic and mature, and not being so stuck up and spoiled as a rich person. i am feeling some 'cliches' already... and obviously gotoda is sent by alice's mom to screw up her life.. ok.. that's what i am speculating... shall see if it is really going to spiral into the usual cliches...

guess she didn't like being told that something wasn't suited for her

If you find any one using the subs on streaming, report the video to the webmaster and ask them to take it down due to... "intellectual property copyright" or something or rather. :o
i am sorry for posting such a lame answer, but i want to say that i really enjoy watching CTBT! i like aya and her acting like a brat, and kamichi is actually a great actor when it comes to characters like this! i think he will get a lot of attention from now on!
it sure is an unrealistic drama, but doesn't it have something of hyd? well, i like this.... ^^
Ep 2 explain why she's "interested" in him. Glad they explained that, though I wish the guy was trained before going out as her bf not just make him look good by dressing him up. Other then that good episode. Felt a bit bad for the other girl at the end that likes him.
The second episode was a disappointment for me. While the plot itself is by nature predictable and cliched, the details weren't nearly so good in the second episode.
There were a couple of forced scenes in the first episode (like the chicken speech on the runway), but the number of scenes that felt forced increased drastically in the second episode.
All of the "embarrassment" scenes from his dating faux pas went so over the top that they made me cringe--and not with sympathy. I really hated them and wished they'd done something funny instead. I doubt they could have prolongued that scene of him embarrasing himself at the piano any longer either. Poor Taro is the only person who thuoght they'd pulled that one off.
Next, both the guys from his neighborhood and Sachiko were acting ridiculous. Like men are really going to be sitting around a bar whining about a widower finally dating instead of sitting home with his kids everynight. Obviously two dates with a rich woman makes you a bad parent, and morons in a bar will imply that you need to bring your kids on dates with you. I don't believe for a second that nobody in Japan remarries, or that everyone believes dating someone after a spouse has died is nothing but making your treasured children sad. That's about as unrealistic as it gets. They should have stuck to the perfume jokes.
Sachiko is so hung up over anonymous middle management lady telling her that she has no talent that she completely forgets that the fashion icon she actually admires (and who runs the company) loved her work... therefore Sachiko is hemming and hawing about the fulltime job she originally wanted. That might make less sense.
Taro, who was quite a responsible parent in episode 1, is now apparently too stupid to ask for a babysitter from Alice when she has him working nights dating her. Is this the same guy who was so determined about his hours in episode 1? Alice was willing to pay his loans for pete's sake! She'd probably have been happy to send Gunji over to sit around the shack, and we could have had a really funny scene. Or Taro could have asked Sachiko to sit in with them, since she's not doing anything at present. Poor isn't an excuse in this case. Instead he acts like a dummy so that the writers can play up how dating a rich woman makes you neglect your kids. Stupid and forced.
Technically Gotoda, is right about Taro being a gigolo (he is being paid to date Alice afterall). However all the smack talk about poor people made me laugh (thank goodness something did), since we know that Alice's mom already implied there's a financial interest at the center of all this arranged marriage business. Maybe Gotoda should think about not throwing stones when he's apparently trying to buy himself a wife. He was still the most interesting character in episode 2 for me. (Alice was a close second.)
Sachiko turned into the cliched unexpressive childhood friend in love who can only act annoying and pouty instead of saying how she feels. At least she fed the kids though. It'd be sad if they did nothing but worship a single egg each week.
The characters acting stupid for the sake of the plot was what I disliked most in the later episodes of Yamada Taro, where as celticmoon said the show fell apart. I think there's still a chance for Celeb to Binbo Taro to salvage the things that bothered me in episode 2, but I'm kinda wary at the moment.
Obviously, the show's plan is to throw every plot and character cliche from other top idol dramas into a big pot and see what they can come up with. (Yamada Taro's poor scenes, HYD's rich/poor relationship with an evil mom trying to force a marriage for money, ProDai's uncommunicative childhood friends in love..) That doesn't make it an automatically bad show in my book, as most romantic comedies do that same thing to some degree. When it makes you laugh, it can be great. But when you're relying on cliches, melodrama, and 2-dimensional characters and something goes wrong... the series doesn't have much to fall back on.
ive just finished watching episode 2 i got to say things started to be more interesting like why she dont get a long with her step mom also i wonder why she brookup with ex and after saying the promo of the third ep i became more excited because i guess she will move to his place i hope the fan sub will keep translating this drama

My guess:
I think he cheated on her. That's why she was so openly dating that cheater in the beginning of episode 01. She was trying to expose him as a louse before dumping him publically. It would give her a cathartic sense of vengence after having been the one cheated, and then her character can be made more humanized and sympathetic with the revelation of why she behaved that way.
