You could try:

- J-drama: Byakuyako, Mahiru no Tsuki, Kono yo no Hate, Kou Kou Kyoushi

- K-drama: A Love to Kill, Sorry I Love You, Snow in August
I'm already a die hard Byakuyakou fan but I'll try the other 2. I started watching Kou Kou kyoushi and i have to say its pretty good

Thanks!
Do you only want Abe Hiroshi acting in it?

If not, I would recommend My Boss My Hero, it's totally comedy without trying so hard.

Something like Kekkon Dekinai Otoko would also be Around 40 which is about a 40 year old female who can't get married and stars Amami Yuki and Fujiki Naohito.

For more Abe Hiroshi, I would recommend Trick, Hero and Change.

i'm looking for something like a million stars falling from the sky - i've already searched in this thread for some suggestions but i'm still unsatisfied...

it should have a good screenwriting, a interesting story, nice pictures, a lil bit love and a sad ending. with deeper emotions, nothing too lightly. and good actors .. lol ... and not TOO old.. 98+ is okay .. byakuyako was boring in the beginning, is it really this good?

thanks thanks :)

For some reason, i don't see many people recommending Utahime (Tomose Nagaya, Aibu Saki). It's a really great drama, i just finished it yesterday.. Truly one of the more under-rated shows thus far. More people should watch it!! :D

looks like i'm graduating from anime to JDrama.

watched Densha Otoko and truly enjoyed the ride. (my very first JDrama)

so i guess, other than JDramas with Misaki-sama in it (since i'm gonna find them all), any recommendations on Rom-Com?

i was interested with Yuri Ebihara (did i get that right) before i got blown away by Hermes-tan

If you love animals, I recommend Ushi ni negai wo. It even shows how a real cow gives birth in the first episode!

Warui Yatsura evolves from love but there is no love to say the least ><

IWGP- Ikebukuro West Gate Park

Trick- Pretty good

Kemonomichi- Very good no subs for it though so its best to watch if you know some japanese so your not completely lost.

Taiyou no Kisetsu- Has some love in it but doesn't eclipse the utter horror the main character is.

Security Police aka SP- Very good as well if you want some assassins/terrorist action.

Watashitachi no Kyokasho- Dark school drama

Seito Shokun!- Dark school drama
Best thing to do is read through the list like everyone else instead of posting though since many of the dramas ppl list has more than just love dramas. Happy hunting ^.^
Btw can anyone recommend some good japanese/korean movie sites that I can dl from?

I know this question has been asked a whole lot, but I was wondering if someone can recommend some comedies that I might enjoy. So far I have only seen 正義の味方 (Seigi no Mikata) and I have enjoyed watching it quite a bit. However, with recommendations I would like everyone to keep in mind I am 22, male, and only like comedies as far as I know. I can't really deal with sad doramas or overly romantic doramas. My main reason for looking for doramas to watch is so that I can practice my Japanese, next year I am going to Japan for school and need to practice until I do and I don't have the chance to speak in Japanese so my friends keep saying I should watch dorama.

Anyways! Thanks if someone can give me so tips, I looked around, and it's a bit confusing reading threw other peoples recommendations.

Maou. Summer 2008. Must see.
- complex plot
- lovely lightings
- a touch of love
- SAD
- metaphors everywhere
- deep
- wonderful actors

Just remember this very important fact about jdramas.. they RUN.

Another suggestion is "Sleeping Forest". An older drama by Takuya Kimura with the same flavor of "A million Stars Falling From The Sky"

I've only begun really getting into dramas. It seems as though I'm sticking to comedies (apparently, just went through my list ^^;) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for dramas that I should check out.

I've seen/currently watching:
-Hana Kimi (JP)
-Attention Please (JP)
-Brown Sugar Macchiato (TW)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (JP)
-Liar Game (JP)

I do plan on seeing the other Hana Kimi (TW?) and Hana Yori Dango when I get the chance since I love those manga.

seen 3 jdramas
Muri na Renai-probably more fun than the other 2 but dont expect too much
Ame to Yume no Ato ni- more serious tone, kind of a family closeness drama not bad.
Ashita no Kita Yoshio- some strong characters IMO, but I would say only the middle part was most entertaining.

Anyone got a hilarious comedy recommendation for a guy?

Joykimlee thanks! :lol
I saw Liar Game-it was ok, it makes you curious about what's next, but a bit predictable.

Seigi no Mikata was decent but the characters dont really evolve-and I couldn't belive that the youger sister never rebelled.. or even how come there wasnt an episode where she would go bad, she never took revenge or nothin-so it was kind of disappointing because I kept expecting that.

What can you recommend for my taste?
I only finish dramas that are extremely hilarious or have kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the time. That, or a cute girl.
The things I look for in a drama are character development, inspiration, and a GOOD ENDING. I prefer not to watch serious dramas like 1 litre of tears and 14 sai no haha.

Dramas I finished:
ROOKIES (the last one i watched, and also my favorite so far.)
GTO
HYD 1 and 2
Proposal Daisakusen
My Boss My Hero
Last Friends
Nobuta Wo Produce

Dramas I didnt finish:
1 litre of tears
14 sai no haha
Hana Kimi
Kurosagi
Stand Up!!
Gokusen (Nakama Yukie is not my type)

Post by peshti » Oct 16th, '08, 13:06

Hi foks!
I got a big intrest for Jdramas and I'm wondering if you guys could recommend some dramas that I should watch.
Because right now I'm clueless, I don't know what drama I should choose, and I like all kind of genres.

Kind regards
Peshti

I recently saw Yasha and Midnight Rain. Interesting plots. Both are not bad. If you want comedy Mukodono is not bad. Brother Beat is pretty funny too.

Hi,
I couldn't watch any jdramas of last season (summer) since i've gone to somewhere else for 2 months. Can anyone tell me what drama hits the most of the audience? and which dramas are recommended? Like Bara no nai Hanaya for Winter, and Last Friends for Spring.. :-)

thanx in advance..

Well, there were two dramas that continued from spring season and they were hits, Change with KimuTaku and Rookies. If you only want the ones that ended now, it´s Code Blue with YamaPi, Maou with Ikuta Toma and Ohno Satoshi or Yasuko to Kenji. I liked the last three , they were ok. Not as high ratings as Last Friends or Gokusen, but it was summer, so it´s understandable.

2008 must see

Post by Caro_T » Oct 18th, '08, 15:47

Hello everyone! For years I've wanted to get into J-Dramas but have been a bit intimidated (so many shows, where do I go, etc.) Now that I've stumbled across D Addicts I've decided to take the plunge.

I need help from you wonderful veterans. What are the 2008 must see? I apologize if someone has already done this topic and thank you for any help.

I've seen/currently watching:
-Hana Kimi (JP)
-Attention Please (JP)
-Brown Sugar Macchiato (TW)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (JP)
-Liar Game (JP)

I do plan on seeing the other Hana Kimi (TW?) and Hana Yori Dango when I get the chance since I love those manga.
Comedy live action jdramas:
Nodame Cantabile (must watch)
Hotaru no Hikari
Seigi no Mikata
Zettai Kareshi
Yamada Taro Monogatari
Hana Yori Dango
Papa to Musume no Nanokakan
Gokusen
Nobuta wo Produce
Yasuko to Kenji
Hey
i saw you want to see the TW version of hana kimi :D
i also saw both and i recommend on wacthing the tw version also. the humor is diffrent but also good :D
and it's not the same as hana kimi jp. i do like the jp version more, cause there is more humor and the ending is better ^^ i'm not going to tell what happens cause you have to see that for yourself :D

From what I've seen of the 2008 Shows you should get:

- Bara no nai hanaya
- Hachimitsu to clover
- Tomorrow

I haven't seen them myself but

- Maou
- Gonzo: Densetsu no Keiji

should be also quite good.

You should also check the blog of this jdrama fan:

Maou, Yasuko to Kenji, and the biggest hype of the year: Last Friends

33pun Tantei is quirky slapstick humor so if you like that then definitely see that one.

At least Last Friends have the biggest names of this season, but the script ist really crap and it seams that none of the characters uses their brains very often.

Dont get me wrong the acting is good but this series is al about getting into the shared house and getting out what the reason ever might by. An the conclusion of this is really a big laught.

If you have others dramas an your watchlist, watch these first.

Definitely Rookies. All of the guys are super cool and funny in their own way and the story is much better then the Gokusen one (which is also a must see series). Try Code Blue if you like doctors or Yasuko to Kenji if you like funny comedies with a bit of real life. If you are into sci-fi and you don´t mind that it is for kids, watch Kamen Rider Kiva. It´s this years Kamen Rider series and it´s pretty funny. You can find it at jdramas community on LJ.

Kamen Rider is tokusatsu, not really drama. Even if it says "drama" its considered tokusatsu.... I would not put that up for a drama recommendation.

All right I'm kind of new to JDrama and would like some suggestions

These are the series I have already seen:
Trick
Dragon Zakura
Kurosagi
Proposal Daisakusen
Also Kamen Rider Den-O/Kiva and Garo though they are technically tokusatsu.

@wolfdarkn: It seems from your list that you like Yamapi XD Well, a must see is Nobuta wo Produce and Gokusen, Kimi wa Petto was also quiet good. From the lates, Code Blue, Rookies, and I almost forget about Hana Yori Dango ^_^ But thats from a girls point of view. My brother liked Ichi poundo no fukuin, Tokkyu Tanaka San Go, Sailor Fuku to kikanju, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (that´s also my recomendation, Horikita Maki was super cute in this ;o) ).
If you are fan of tokusatsu, I think you wouldn´t mind the lame tricks in Fuma no Kojiro. It´s about ninjas (more like Basilisk then Naruto, so don´t freak out), it´s sooo funny in the beginning, and stupid, but it will get different with every next episode.

If you have some genre you would like to watch, just ask ^_^

Looking for Young (Jr.High age appropriate) Fall 08 dramas for my daughter.
She likes Oguri, and Yamapi, young comedy, and mystery.
I want to try Celeb to Binbo ...
Any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

^ Does it have to be Fall 08 and does it have tobe something that will be subbed?
There are a lot of age appropriate dramas that fit the bill.... just not that many this particular season....

^In that case, here are some ideas you may want to try out besides Celeb to Binbo Taro:
These two, I have seen and am really enjoying so far. Both have some element of mystery involved. (This season is full of mysteries, it seems).
Team Batista no Eiko - Quirky medical mystery/thriller similar to Trick or Galileo in its mix of humor and seriousness (closer to Galileo though).
Dandan - Recent NHK asadorama with a bit of mystery so far. I'm not sure how appealing these dramas are to school aged kids, but this story seems pretty interesting to me so far.

She might also like Ryusei no Kizuna. Another dark comedic mystery. There is a little bit of humor about sex, but I'll leave that to you about how appropriate it is for your daughter. I don't think it's too bad and sincerely doubt it will progress beyond the level of jokes in the 1st ep.

Otherwise, based on the actors involved and descriptions (I haven't seen any of these,so I can't say much):
Oh! My! Girl! - AllI know is that it stars Hayami Mokomichi who seems pretty popular with girls.
Scrap Teacher - School based drama
Room of King - Comedy based on an interesting concept starring another young star popular with the girls.
Bloody Monday - Starring another young idol/actor.

i am seriously disliking near all of the current jdramas :cussing: , and have resulted to going back to the 90s to find some great jems. Can you all recommend me some great dramas from that period that may have missed my eye. I tend to watch dramas with major actors such as kimura takuya, oda yuji and Sorimachi Takashi --> so may have missed some great ones which just had different actors?

which have you seen? and do you need subs? :fear:

EDIT:
Here's a list of some good/classic dramas from the era with other actors than who you mentioned above (not to say that these are not famous actors in their own right). Kind of a variety of genres represented.

101st Marriage Proposal
Double Kitchen
Oishii Kankei
Hoshi no Kinka series
News no onna
From the Heart / Kimi ga Oshietekureta koto
Aishiteru to ittekure
Tokyo Love Story
Investigator Mariko series (sort of straddles the millenium)
Shomuni series
Shota no Sushi
Ohsama no Restaurant
Mahiru no Tsuki

This is obviously not an exhaustive list, but you should be able to find something. All of these listed are subbed and available on either the DA tracker or at Jem's.
(I'd say to check this thread to find out what's where) :whistling:

Seigi no Mikata is funny. But it's tiring to see how the characters don't really change throughout the drama. :S Good for a laugh though.
