Something is off, idk what... maybe the cosplay? The editing is abit all over the places. I do hope the 'wacky humour' will not overpowered the whole murder mystery we are supposed to be in for, and in the end becomes completely redundant. I am still watching though, Nino's kicked puppy expression won't let me off yet.
Hmm... It's quite challanging to edit a story which involves both flashback and a story with in a story ( the swindling, cospaly bits). I still think it feels a bit rough, and jumpy here and there.chokubi wrote: The editing is one of the biggest reasons why I'm watching this.
Maybe I was hoping for more intense and dramatic editing, somehow each element feels too segregated and chopped, It takes quite an effort to be comfortable with the story.
As I read through the thread, I've noticed that a few people have mentioned that the humor is out of place and a bit weird...I agree to an extent, but I think it's one of the main factors that differentiates this series from other ones. I think the director and scriptwriter did a good job so far in creating a deep, serious plot and yet a funny, silly one at the same time. But I do worry like you guys about whether they are going to make the mistake of having the comedy overshadow the true meaning of the story as the show progresses. (I've read some of the book and it's by no means as silly as the drama, but it does have it's sarcastic brotherly/sisterly moments.)
I personally think it's starting out great. I also think the editing is one of the main reasons the drama is so interesting...Instead of following a basic drama series structure, it's more artistic in its storytelling. It actually reminds me of "Lost," the American tv show, with all the flashbacks and such. Although it can get annoying, I think it's a good change and I think they did a great job in making the story flow. But that's just what I think...I'm sure others may find it too choppy and annoying, jumping all over the place...It just depends on the person...I don't think it's very confusing at all so far, compared to most non-Japanese films or tv shows I've seen.
Oh, and of course...the acting. I doubt the drama would be going so well if it weren't for how amazing all the actors are doing!! Of course it's to be expected of Ninomiya, but the other actors are just as good. I mean, Ryo is surprising me with how well he seems to take on a different character, and I personally adore Toda. And the other actors as well! Hayashi rice man!! And Mika...Even the kids for the flashbacks are not too bad. (:
Ok well, I really rambled too much. xD I'll go now.

I did not expect to love this drama a lot. At first, after seeing the preview cms (the one with the three of them discussing Shii being swindled), I thought I was in for a big disappointment. It had a sort of whimsical look to it, not what I was expecting from Nino's ominous "we three will kill the murderer" speech. I thought I would cry
But the first episode totally killed me and after that I became a believer. Kudo Kankuro is hands down a genius. I love the humor, I love the dialogue, and I love love love the chemistry among the siblings. I never, in a million years, would have thought up of this combination and expect it to work. I give props to the casting agent.
Also, while I was waiting for the first episode, I was lucky enough to read an article in the RnK lj comm about how Kudo Kankuro intended to write the drama. Then and there he outright said that it would be different from the book, that it would focus more on the bond, and that he would write characters totally different from the ones in the novel. After reading that article, and while watching the first episode, I was able to take in the silliness and actually enjoy it
After seeing the 3rd episode,
I'm not as well versed in critiquing jdramas, but I can say that I do appreciate and love the humor in it. The flashbacks were a nice touch, and though it started to grate in episode 2,
Now I can't wait for next week

Haha, sorry that I made you registered! Desho, desho??? I've repeated that over and over!!! xDsaya317 wrote:I had to register just to reply to this!
Are you a Nishikido fan? Just wondering, if there's any Nishikido fan think that this is his best acting performance so far, or has he done something better? This is my first time watching him in a drama (yup, havent watch Ichi Ritoru nor Last Friends xP), and I think he is doing a great job here. I really love how he perform Taisuke! And gotta thank KudoKan too, coz Taisuke in the book is not so energetic as in the drama xD
No need to apologize. I've always been a lurker here, lol. Same here. I've repeated that constantly too!yanie wrote:Haha, sorry that I made you registered! Desho, desho??? I've repeated that over and over!!! xDsaya317 wrote:I had to register just to reply to this!

Yep, huge fan of Ryo's. I do think this is his best performance so far. He just seems much more natural in this role than any other. I agree that he's doing great as Taisuke. Some very critical viewers might say that anybody could play Taisuke or even be a better Taisuke, but I believe that replacing Ryo could very well throw off the chemistry and the bond that we've come to love in the Ariake sibings. Know what I mean?
Anywys, you're yanie02 @ LJ, right? I have an LJ too under the same username as here. I hope its okay that I just friended you. ^_^
Ahh... that's the exact word!! Natural... he's so natural here, the way he recite his lines and all. He looks perfectly comfortable with the role.saya317 wrote:He just seems much more natural in this role than any other.
Ah yes, I recognized your name as one of the RnK LJ comm member ^_^ Sure, its okay!^^saya317 wrote:Anywys, you're yanie02 @ LJ, right? I have an LJ too under the same username as here. I hope its okay that I just friended you. ^_^
Lol this dorama is somewhat weird, before seeing it and reading the synopsis, I was thinking this would be another cruel, serious Dorama.
Turns out it was funny, strange and brilliant. I love the quirky moments when certain makes me chuckle. Like Tai, leaving behind Rio (Tina Yuzuki) JAV Dvd, and that he was working in a porn shop. Also wasnt that Mika Nakashima acting as a drunkard/cum fake GF just to eat for free.. and also lol at her sleeping all the way in t he background. Also the bit where Toda Erika was dressing up like Shiina RIngo's nurse look from Meisai (although the mole was in the wrong place)... oh how that brings back memories to 1999-ish .
Looking forward to more. Its like Kurozaki the dorama, with a more comedic effect.

I looked through all pages and find it kind of surprised that ppl complain how unexpectedly different the drama is. Isn’t in all promotions the cast always mentioned that the drama is going to be very different from the book. I confess, I didn’t read the book (I’ll do it after the drama ends, Thank you Yanie-san for your doing translation) to be able to compare, but still I thought that ppl were prepared, though I should admit that CM was quite deceiving. I assume that all that angst that people are so thirsty for is going build up through the whole series and burst up into last episodes. So far, I love all wacky and serious parts of the drama and wait eagerly for each episode.
Anywhoo, the part with transition between chibi and adults Ariaki is brilliant; it makes the scene very powerful.

heh.. that drama... I like it. I'm going to continue watching it
I love the acting of all three they do really a good job. Nino is perfect for older brother and he's creating one really nicelly, Ryo...ech Ryo-chan...he's totally different than in LF and it seems that he loves that role, he's really good at creating a silly superactive perfect pretender brother lol, he's so adorable and I love the way he talks! Erika...she's so cute!!!! she's so cute when acting a mad Shii and she's really making a good sister! i can relate them all to each other.
about the drama I love the humour it has and I love how it's edited..it's not something unbelievable but it's good it's like a light snack before dinner

I thought Episode 4 was great too. I especially love the 1st 11mins:
I think Ryo's acting stands out a bit more. When he's the real Taisuke, he's easily this carefree "highschool dropout" fella. Then when he takes on the roles that Koichi dishes out, he becomes this very collected and convincing professional. And while this "chameleon-switching" role isn't easy to play, I think that Ryo has done a good job so far.yanie wrote:

That could be one of the track in the original soundtrack, we'll wait for the OST album to release^^mattroilanh_tt wrote:I wonder what the name of the theme song of "The Letter from Canada" in Episode 1 is. I totally love it . Does anyone know where I can download this song?
Coz I'm pretty sure that The Delusional Chief themesong is original, so perhaps the song for 'letter from canada' is original soundtrack too.
this drama has a lot of potential but at the moment i think it's just all over the place..
for example, why are they even swindling people when their ultimate goal is trying to find their parents killers? it just doesn't make any sense.. all of a sudden the drama turned into a 'kurosagi' of sorts
anyway.. ep 4 spoilers

Your right it does feel like it's all over the place. The whole swingling thing feels rather forced and doesn't fit well for the series at all. Also the first swingling opereation made no sense why are they swingling the host guy instead of the female that swingled them? It wasn't he's fault for what happened nor did the episode show any signs that he was part of the swingling that the woman did. How is that getting back at the woman that did the swingling?airskape wrote:this drama has a lot of potential but at the moment i think it's just all over the place..

This series does feel like kurosagi expect here the whole swingling thing makes no sense.
First of all, uhh... 'swingling'? Dont you mean 'swindling'?ZoddGuts wrote:Your right it does feel like it's all over the place. Hmm, I guess I can accept the idea of their swindling reasons, because I've read the book. But it didn't explained much in the drama, I guess...

Ep5 was awesome, fabulous, excellent, superb! THIS IS what Higashino Keigo is about!! The Higashino Keigo flavour totally stood out than the KudoKan flavour. And yay! Its getting closer to the book. I KNOW I can count on KudoKan!^v^ And at the end... OMG, KudoKan added a totally unexpected twist!!! Can you tell that I got so excited?? LOL!! Maybe, bcoz the mystery-feel stood out more than the comedy in this episode.
To KudoKan Humourous Style lovers, I'm sorry that you wont get much of it in Ep5 x) hmm... I guess I AM more of a Higashino fan^^ That WAS the initial reason why I got so interested in this book and drama.

so ep5 was shown. I thought ep5 is more serious than the first eps since I watched the end of ep4 where Tai and Koi seen the suspect. This make me eager to see how Koi and Tai act upon this fact. The drama is getting more dark scenes. I do love humorous style of Kudokan but this drama is originally about suspense thus it should have more serious shots. Wait to see them.
@yanie: you make me so excited. hope you guys post torrent soon. cant wait for ep5 anymore! ><

Looking forward to ep 5. Don't worry about the KudoKan fans. When I said IWGP had plenty of dark stuff in it and serious parts, I meant it. RnK has actually been taking a bit longer to get to the the dark stuff, so I'm ready for it and have been expecting it since the start. LOLyanie wrote:Ep5 was awesome, fabulous, excellent, superb! Ryusei no Kizuna may be the series with the most fansub group sub it until now . As far as I know, 4 group do soft sub (Akusub, kakijun, samurai storm, ice fight) and 5 group do hard sub (AS & Stormy, Sars, Bada & Akusub, Samurai storm, and one made hard sub from Akusub soft sub for his private purpose).
Wow!! Thanks for the info!mattroilanh_tt wrote:Ryusei no Kizuna may be the series with the most fansub group sub it until now . I don't remember Hanadan being subbed by as many teams as this! And that time I thought Hanadan was subbed by too many teams already
The rating for Ep5 is 15.1%, down a bit. The highest rating moment in Ep4 is 17.4%. Can you guess which scene got the highest rating?
Personally, I find that every episode thus far has generally been great, and the one attributing factor to that would be the consistently wonderful script, that's both very witty and personalized to each of the characters. And I think both screenwriters have equally accomplished that, each to their own flavor.
Actually, I think both writers have been borrowing ideas from each other. Probably more so in the case of Higashino Keigo, and the bits of subtle comedy found in his episode(s).

I'm liking Erika Toda more n more since Code Blue n Ryuusei no Kizuna. She seems a much more diverse actress than i thought when i first saw her in Death Note then Liar Game. So now she's my preferred actress over Maki Horikita n Inouie Mao who i classify the same kind.
Refreshing to watch Ryo here as the carefree one in comparison to his previous roles in Last Friends n 1LOT. Nino's no doubt a gd actor n he seems to b always acting around a kitchen in many of his jdramas. Maybe he jus has tat gd boy look to land these kinda roles.
Overall, one of my favs of tis season. Thx to all subbing teams!

hi I have this question that is stuck in my mind for a long time and I hope you guys won't mind me asking.
The question is, is this drama only 6 episode long? because when I read on wiki it says it will end in December but after watching episode 5 and preview of episode 6... it seems like its going to end and some people said that its longer than 6 episodes so now I'm really confused. I also look up and the next drama after Ryusei no Kizuna is Love Shuttle but that doesn't start until Jan 2009 O.O... so is this drama longer than 6 episodes or not? can somebody please help?

Yeah, seems like there'll be more than 6 episodes.
I think that some people said that the drama will be composed of 6 episodes because when you go on the wiki page, there's a table of the ratings for the episodes but stopped at episode 6.
So we still don't know haw many episodes it'll be, I would say 11.
There had been 1 month between Maou and Ryusei no Kizuna, it may be the same with Ryusei and Love Shuffle.

oh my..., just did watch ep 6-sub. till now it is the best ep i've seen. Love ep 6 because Shii knew the fact of sibling relationship and above all, the first time Koi and Tai talked about Shi as "a girl" not as a little sister. Poor them, It's seem that their love for Shi is only one-way. Also love this ep because It does not only follow the book but also add humorous scene [Taisuke's scenario] -> love this scene so much, Tai is really cute.
Ep 7 will attract many viewers I think, cause its preview catches my attention by a kiss of Shi-Togami. Rating of ep 5 dropped a little bit. Don't know how ep 6 is going? Does anyone know its rating?

Agreed. I loved watching it w/o subs, but after subs it's even better. I guess this replaces episode 3 for meaqua_marine wrote:oh my..., just did watch ep 6-sub. till now it is the best ep i've seen.
Only a couple complaints though -
ETA - from the Japanese Wikipedia, it says the rating for ep06 was 14.8%
I like how they still use humor in the show at this point, despite it going almost full-time serious.
And that it's very subtle and used sparingly.
And that it wouldn't make sense to inject those humor scenes if it weren't for the earlier wacky episodes.
