Sekai Chuu... you know they were trying to make you cry though. Also the fact that I watched the whole thing by myself in like, less than 24 hours made it kind of intense. The scene with him carrying her through the airport...gahh!!
Definitely Orange Days as well. I think that's the most I've cried for a jdrama.

The only J-drama to have ever made me cry was Nobuta Wo Produce. I think Nobuta is the perfect combination of ridiculous comedy and heartfelt personal journeys. It is, in my opinion, the best J-drama I have seen yet. It was paced really well, and the actors did really well, and the journeys of Nobuta, Shinji, and Akira were so well portrayed. At the end, when Shinji voice-overs "Nobuta Power, enter!" I was crying. It was so touching.
And I know it's not really a J-movie Letters From Iwo Jima never fails to make me cry. I'm not so big of a Nino fan, but I thought he was spectacular in that film. He should do more movies!
I'm sorry to everyone else, but I thought Koizora (movie and drama) was trite and ridiculous, even if it is a true story (is it?). I've seen so many like it, I was not impressed. Then again, I'm never too impressed with the run of the mill love story dramas.

The drama that has made me cry the most ever is 1 Litre of Tears. I think what got me the most was that it's based on a true story of Kito Aya, and would show quotes from her diary.
Last Friends made me cry here and there throughout the story. It's on topics not usually discussed in Japanese drams. More recently, Innocent Love made me cry just because her life is so sad -__-

I'd have to agree with 1 Litre of Tears. I think I cried a bucket of tears watching it. I started getting choked up in episode two and stayed that way for the rest of the drama. Aya's struggles and the way she affected everyone around her (and the way they affected her) was so beautifully done.
Crying Out Love. . . At the Centre of the Earth (drama) also had me tearing up several times. They (the leads) were just so innocent and happy then everything happened, and yet. . . they still tried to remain themselves, while breaking. Beautiful drama.
I've teared up during other dramas, but those were the two that really got to me.

For me the first drama I watched "Kamisama Mou Sukoshi dake" I remember crying on every episode, it was so sad and sweet T,T and Takeshi Kaneshiro played really well
Tatta Hitotsu no Koi makes me sad too maybe not that sad as I was watching Kamisama mou sukoshi, but it has that sad feeling through all drama
Yuuki SP makes me cry really hard even after I finished it T,T Kame was really great, so good that I feel truley convinced by his play
Love To Kill omg it was so sad I thought I'm not going to end it T,T I was effected by this drama for about a week. Very tragic one, where everything is fated to fail ,it makes you feel even more down _-_
from movies Koizora is a real tear-jerker I love this one even if it makes me cry to the point one pack of tissues wasn't enough xD I love haruma even more after I watch this one ( I watched it two times xDDD )
Tada Kimi wo Aishiteru omg the end of the movie is so unexpected, and so sad ,but very beautiful .

Demo, its a story which makes you cry and want to faLL in Love at the same time..
Trite?? hmm.. we have different opinions anyway.. Ja ne!
the dorama is better than the movie on my opinion though the movie actor/actress are better looking
"Beautiful Life" did it for me. One of the saddest dramas I have seen in a long time. It's also one of the best "human drama" J-drama out there in my opinion. Also "Orange Days" made me cry towards the end alot ( I love this drama alot btw). One other one I didn't expect was "Karei Naru Ichizoku" (the ending was so unexpected)
@colyn7
sou dane *nods* yah its tiring if its repetitive and relieving if you always kept the ouch...
but for me its kinda weird to cry in front of the pc in an instant mostly for males like me i had this experience that i rush from the pc towards the kitchen just to wipe some forming tears baka!! i dont really cry on the scenes ive seen., i cry because of the words im hearing

Hotelier
I've just started watching my first ever J-Drama, Hotelier. Heavens to Murgatroyd. I think it's fantastic. I can't understand any Japanese but the first episode had me in tears. I don't think any British drama has had the same effect ever. Beats Coronation Street any day.

Movies that moved me... there are a few like Neighbor 13 where the kid gets bulled so much he develops split personalities or Taiyou no Uta, I'm sure about the drama but the movie was very touching plus Yui was great in it. Chakushin Ari the movie kinda makes you feel bad for her when you uncover that girls suffering.. kinda. Lastly Azumi, I felt sorry for azumi (aya) because she killed nachi (oguri shun) in like the very first 15 min of the movie ><

For last year, The drama that can make I almost cried was Zettai Kareshi. This is because for me, Tenjo Night robot's character was successful defeat Asamoto Soshi's human character in winning the heart of Izawa Riiko woman's character.
Sad when Tenjo Night had broken down. Feel impatient to watch Zettai Kareshi SP.Hope somebody will SUB this SP...

"Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu" (Crying out Love, in the Centre of the World) made me cry for sure!
I rarely cry when I watch dramas but with this one I could not hold back. Only one other drama made me cry but it was a Korean drama named "Love Letter".
I am so afraid to watch "One Liter Of Tears"!!! LOL I hate crying and I can tell from what everyone says about it that it is definitely a tissue grabber!

I am also hesitant to watch 1 litre of tears. I have a backlog of J-doramas to get through but I keep passing on 1 litre of tears because I don't think I'm prepared for something so sad and serious. I mean, I just came from watching Hana Kimi the other night and I loved that the fun and energy levels of that series is way high. From what people on the boards are saying, I think I will need to mentally brace myself for 1 litre of tears.

let's see here.
dramas:
Akai Ito (currently watching, crying pretty much ever episode)
some dramas that made me cry, but weren't particularly sad:
Nodame Cantabile (i think it was the last episode, not sure)
First Kiss
H2
Taiyou no Uta
Movies:
Heavenly Forest
can't think of any other movies.
Like other people here I'm terrified of 1 litre of tears. I tried watching the first episode but it was a bit too much for me.
I'm a cry-baby and I'm proud of it!

1. Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu (Crying out Love at the Center of the World) (movie)
2. Hana Yori Dango (both of them)
3. Kimi wa Petto
4. Zettai Kareshi
5. Hana Kimi

Ok, I was watching the first episode of 1 litre of tears and I while I thought it was sad, I did not cry. Then at the very end they showed pictures of the real Ikeuchi Aya and the song Only Human was playing in the background - at the very first verse of the song, tears just started flowing. Seeing the real Ikeuchi was so profound and Only Human has got to be the saddest song I have ever heard. It was just beautiful yet potently melancholic.
I'm sure as Aya begins to slowly lose her physical abilities, the series will become much sadder and harder to watch. I love that this is a true story.

Most Japanese dramas, could easily move me for some reason
It doesn't take them buckets of tears to make me think half the time
It's really great, coz I can't think if I cry too much lol...
Still, there's two - in my opinion - of the best heart-wrenching
and tissue grabbing drama/movies ever made that I've seen...
1 Litre of Tears
I was fine at first, watching the very first episode.
I watched the drama because I was curious, really.
I mean, the title itself was pulling me to watch it,,,
Halfway through the first episode, I was already moved
Second episode, I started to cry a bit... No tissue needed lol
Third episode and so on, let's just say I ran out of tissue by the end lol
It was beautifully written and carefully filmed
Plus, the picture slides at the end...
How can I not cry my heart out?
Myu no Anyo Papa ni Ageru
To be honest, having a pop idol as the lead...
I was really skeptical at first...
I mean, really, how can a kid who played Domyouji play the lead?
I thought about it really hard for days...
You can say I have very low expectation on Matsumoto Jun
Sorry, not that I dislike him for any reason...
I'm just a skeptic when it comes to idols playing heavy roles...
Still, after days of thinking, I can say I'm glad I watched it...
Matsumoto Jun, his performance changed my opinion about him
I never thought the guy who played Domyouji could play the leading role
I mean, I like Hana Yori Dango, but of course...
I don't find it as one of those dramas that could change my opinion
And yes, I've watched Kimi wa Petto... Still...
I'm a very critical person hahah...
Like I said, Jun changed my mind about his ability
I couldn't help but cry watching the movie...
It's like one of those movies you can connect to
I could really see him as a serious actor
... And I bought the DVD lol...
Oh well...

Guitarz, I totally agree with you. Koizora has to be the most overhyped/overrated movie I've ever seen; I was so disappointed.
If you want to see well-made sad movies, watch the following:
1) Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu
2) Sekachu
3) Heavenly Forest
4) Love Letter
5) Heaven's Bookstore
