SMAP's Takuya Kimura is taking on yet another new challenge. After playing characters such as a race car driver, a public prosecutor, and even Prime Minister, he will be now playing the part of a neuroscientist named Ryusuke Tsukumo, working for the National Research Institute of Police Science (part of the National Police Agency). He is generally incapable of reading the atmosphere of a situation, but when it comes to science, he is well respected. Ooh, something to look forward to this spring! I agree with those picking up on the Galileo-vibe, which popped into my head too upon reading the synopsis. Since I loved that drama, I just hope this is similarly entertaining. And besides Kimura, having Mizushima Hiro co-star is like icing on the cake. I'm marking my calendar right now.
P.S. I rather like Kimura's longer, somewhat-disheveled hair in the pics.

Well, I dont mind being called obachan but that job'd better be left for KimuTaku. After all, he's topped AnAn for 15 years. And his name ensures you a good drama. He is smart in choosing his role ^^Issy wrote:and from some older obachans too.annie_chan wrote:Hiro should be able to attract rating from teenage girls
I am sooo excited
This looks entertaining. Definitely on my list. And here I thought the line up this spring didn't look as interesting as last season - now that it's starting, I'm proving myself wrong.
Also - Kimura's hair. All I can say is "Wow. That's hair." Not sure about my opinion on it yet. ; We'll see how it looks moving.

he looks so adorable with all the hairstyles he had so far, ne!
Guys, any reason behind having his dramas starting in the middle of the season (this one and CHANGE?)

Ooh I love Galileo, it's in a league of its own and I hope (and believe) that Mr.Brain will not be anything like it. I trust KimuTaku's dorama decisions.. Well, except when he did Karei Naru Ichizoku. Seriously, he should have done other dorama that year and not that soap opera. *sigh* Especially since he only does one dorama a year, his fans (*cough* me *cough*) sure have high expectations.
@Kakijun: For some reason I don't like her either! Hahaha.. I don't know why, I just don't. But I hope she'll grow on me so I'll be able to enjoy this dorama to the fullest.

More guests announced for "Mr. Brain"
This Saturday, the drama series "MR.BRAIN," starring SMAP's Takuya Kimura, will premiere on TBS. The cast already includes several other popular stars, such as Haruka Ayase and Hiro Mizushima, but during a recent press event it was announced that each episode will also feature big-name guests.
Last week, it was revealed that KAT-TUN's Kazuya Kamenashi is scheduled to appear in the show's third episode. Now, it is known that the first episode will have appearances by Ebizo Ichikawa, Ryoko Hirosue, and others, while the second episode will bring on musician Gackt.
TBS is hoping to draw very high ratings for the series, which airs in the network's Saturday night time slot.

First impression of ep. 1 was ok or above average. I watched a low res version so the vidoe/audio left a lot to be desired; my opinion will probably change after watching the 720p version.
For all the talk about the eccentricity of KimuTaku's character, IMHO he's really not very different than the other characters he'd played before (other than the one in Change). In fact, I thought he was overshadowed by Ichikawa Ebizo's character, who is more charismatic and has a bigger screen presence. None of the other characters stands out; Ayase seems to be playing the same type of character she did in Shikaotoko, and Mizushima just played your typical rookie cop.
TBS apparently bet the farm on this so the production values are top notch. First time I'm impressed with an action set piece in a japanese movie/drama; although the CGI was only so so. The ep. was a bit dialog-heavy; my Japanese is very rusty and if it were not for the Japanese subs I'd be completely lost. The score is a little disappointing, coming from the same composer who scored Galileo and Kiina. The plot, while not very creative, is certainly more logical than any of the ones in BOSS. At least there's some substance to go w/ the style in this drama (so far).

but if you ask, you might as well wait until it has properly been fixed, because the dl rate is rather low, since a lot of people cannot get the torrent

First episode rating - 24.8%.
I haven't watched the drama yet.. I'm not expecting much, but wow. Kimu Taku still pulls in the big numbers. Considering the generally declining drama ratings in the last few seasons, as well as the timeslot this drama is airing, those numbers are truly amazing. Honestly, I thought the first episode would come in at around 20%, so I was quite surprised.

Not to mention Kansai region's rating: 25.2%celticmoon wrote:First episode rating - 24.8%.

Mr.Brain
Thanks for all info.
Finally d/l the first episode. Have yet to watch all of it but loved the opening scenes. Must say Kimura san knows how to be the slightly tattered third grade host. His creased white suit and those shoes..the turned up toes !! also the dirty blonde hair. His whole attitude is spot on.
Maybe spoiler
************************
Liked the timing of the action as they turned around to each other to see the back view and then repeat and same thing again. If only they had turned at the same time he would never have gone on and been crushed...... Ah but then no Mr. Brain.
Liked the little sort of shrug he gave as if to say 'Oh well we could at least had a drink....Maybe' and he turned the last time. Nice little bit of acting.
I think it will be an interesting drama.

More thoughts on ep. 1 after rewatching it w/ Chinese subs, mainly on the plot.
As a seasoned mystery writer, Makita Mitsuharu's script seems to be a little lacking for such a high calibre show (running out of ideas after Trick and Puzzle?). It's ironic that the most innovative and entertaining mystery drama this season so far is Meitantei no Okite which is actually a spoof on mystery novels (ep. 3 - 6, although they completely changed and ignored the mystery solving part in ep. 5). There's still hope for improvement, although statistically it doesn't bode well for the rest of the series (since the 1st ep. is typically the most creative one).
Ep1 was 2 hours of teh suck...
Setting and plot etc completely implausible, and cheap rushed production. There were so many A-list actors and they were all horrible, especially Kagawa Teruyuki, who's a much better actor than that. So cheesy.
Looks like Gackt is gonna guest star in the next episode though, hopefully it'll get better.
