song hye gyo in london:
who knows . i don't think that's too big a deal anyway. but i think she's natural. After watching A Moment To Remember starring Son Ye Jin, I'd have to place her #1 along with Song Hye Kyo. "Why?" you might ask. Well, because Son Ye Jin doesn't have that asian doll look and not anorexic either. She's really beautiful especially with her black, straight hair. It looks so natural. Natural beauty beats all!
...but does anybody know if she's totally natural? I'm really curious

Yep Korean women in the K-dramas really are SO damn gorgeous, it's giving me a complex! Although I do realize that a lot of them to plastic surgery...um, don't know why, but I suppose the pressures of them to constantly look stunning is difficult and the fact that Korean society accepts cosmetic surgery openly. Anyhoo, there are a number of natural beauties like Song Hye Kyo, Jeon Ji Hyun, Son Yeh Jin, Jang Nara, Lee Young Ae etc, who are very lovely and have never done anything to their faces.
If I were to pick THE KOREAN ACTRESS who takes my breath away (and I'm a girl), it has GOT to be Jeon Ji Hyun. Although she got ridiculously popular for MY SASSY GIRL, I was immune to her charms and beauty during her rise to fame. It wasn't until I saw WINDSTRUCK did I realize what a natural beauty she is. She barely wore any make up and still, such smooth skin and that luscious black hair flying is just wonderfully gorgeous... gah, I'm envious! This girl not ONLY has that pretty, charming face but the fit, athetlic body too. She definitely has sex appeal and I see why guys go ga-ga over her!
Second runner up will go to Song Hye Kyo, because her beauty is so serene and lovely. She doesn't have the dynamic body shape though and she is a bit short, but her face is just so adorable and sweet that I melt each time I see her, too and yeah, it looks as though great legions of D-addicts fans are SHK crazy *laughs* Well, I don't blame you. This girl is a beauty!

I'm surprised that Choi ji woo hasn't been mentioned yet.
I think she has a very sophisticated and mature aura to her. She's also very mysterious... Not many scandals, and she has a very private life.
D-A peeps are too crazy over SHK. But she's cute, I have to admit.
Here's my list:
1. Choi Ji Woo
2. Kim Tae Hee
3. Song Hye Kyo

Just saw this at soompi, thought I'd post it here.
Grace Park, Korean-Canadian actress. She's been on a few shows eg Battlestar Gallactica. Moved to Canada from Korea at 22 months. Currently married to a Korean Real Estate developer.

Speaking of Korean American celebrities, Alexandra Chun (she's in the show Saws) is also hot

Can't forget about Natasha Yi, aka Natasha Lee:

I'm only responding to the most recent replies since it's quite a few pages to rummage through.
Im Soo Jung: Wow, that's definitely an actress when she has many different looks and can portray different characters.
BoA*'s among my top10 list and she's only getting sexier and rising on my list.
Grace Park: First thought was, "GOD! She's beautiful." Then, "She's similar to Jessica Alba." (Physique, tan, etc.)

and finally. /

I read an interesting article recently: Fans of Snubbed Beauties Up in Arms
I must agree that all 10 who made the list are beautiful. But anyway, who's Go So-yeong? What dramas or movies has she been in?With the cable TV channel m.net selecting a list of Korea's 10 most beautiful women to mark the company's 10th anniversary, fans of stars who were left off are launching severe protests on the Internet. Using Internet balloting and expert opinion, m.net selected a list of Korea's 10 representative beauties. Those making the list were Go So-yeong, Kim Tae-hee, Kim Hee-seon, Mun Geun-young, Son Ye-jin, Song Hye-kyo, Eugene, Lee Young-ae, Jeon Ji-hyeon and Han Ga-in.
Don't know about dramas, but Go So Young has been in the following movies according to Koreanfilm.org:
Double Agent (2003) dir. Kim Hyun-jung
A Day (2001) dir. Han Ji-seung
Love (1999) dir. Lee Jang-soo
Love Wind, Love Song (1999) dir. Park Dae-young
If the Sun Rises in the West (1998) dir. Lee Eun
Beat (1997) dir. Kim Sung-soo
The Fox With Nine Tails (1994) dir. Park Hun-soo
A few pics:
I don't like her much.

The race queen woman looks so fake...has she had any plastic surgery./..
Actually how many of korean stars have had plastic surgery-- and where can I find a site that compares the old them and stuff? I'm really curious about this whole Korean/Plastic Surgery thing. Maybe because I'm Chinese and I don't really think it's right...ehhh.. I hope Song Hye Kyo hasn't had any-- she's so gorgeous.

As for Lee Sun Young -- Who knows? She might have had double-eye lid surgery, but that's hardly a neccesary conclusion and I don't think she looks fake. One might think that Kim Hui Sun or Goo Hye Sun (posted above as well) look "fake" but they'd be wrong. Even if someone like Lee Sun Young had something like blepharoplasty (eyelie) done, she'd still be pretty damn beautiful. At least she is to me. I think she looks "cute."
As for Korea and plastic surgery, you can check up on a few sites like this one here for 2003:
http://www.isaps.org/stats2003res.asp (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery)
It states that USA is ranked one in the number of cosmetic procedures, while SK is 12, Japan is 9, HK China is 25.
The above is hardly end-all be-all information but I think it's far better than the internerd anti-Korean conjecturing that goes on in message board forums where people are quick to state stuff like 9/10 Korean woman have plastic surgery or some other and do it on the basis of nothing -- no sources whatsoever, but people seem to believe whatever they want, hear, or read. No doubt, plastic surgery has become very prevalent in Korea and I know even a few Korean American women who have had something done (I think they look worse for it) but ultimately (in the aesthetic sense only) it's not that big of deal. In this thread, I try to post childhood pics whereever I can because I understand it's a relevant question.
By the way, I think the criticism Korea gets for this issue is fair at the same time. There is a culture and gossip plastic surgery craze in Korea, people are superficial, and Korean society is moving along that current the most these days, it seesm. I even go to soompi and see teenager girls wanting plastic surgery even when they are pretty. It's a stupid and unfortunate part of culture and I hope some activism in the way of stemming it gets underway because it can be ridiculous.
Wow, thanks very much for the thought out answer-- I realized that US probably is #1 since we do have the most people right? Well more than Korea I would assume-- I guess the people I know who have had it are Korean and most of my Korean friends say they want surgery. I guess I just feel that it's wrong to make yourself, not yourself. Well about the race queen woman she looks like she has fake boobs, i don't know if that's true but I guess from the older pictures a lot of the people look really different, from ordinary to pretty. I guess I don't see the point, true beauty is when you can look beautiful without anything, if you need surgery or make up or anything to make you look beautiful then it's that "thing" that makes you beautiful, you really aren't beautiful.zdoon wrote:I posted various childhood pictures of SHG in the thread dedicated to her. Since everyone is talking about plastic surgery in korea... here are some of the things i noticed....
everyone seems to have...
1) a perfect nose...... we all look facially different and beauty is certainly in the eyes of the beholders.... but I mean... it's like 99% of all the korean celebs... I've watched... have really perfectly high and straight nose-bone....
2) many of their eyes are overly large...i do mean unusually large... you see so much of the white part that it's scary..
I met this mixed german/korean roommate while i was in Seoul last year... and he said that on the second day he visited Korea, his grandfather gave him a welcoming present by taking him to a plastic surgeon to get rid of his moles...
Anyways, in general.... I think K-celebs are very good looking indeed... don't know whether they have surgeries or not... but can't really tell most of the time... don't think people really care...
Here's my fave pic of Kim Hee Sun... the cosmetics poster girl... arguably one of the most beautiful K-celeb!!!!

Stats from ISAPS can be viewed in per capita form as well. You can go to nationmaster.com and get a sense of the year 2002 per 100 people here: http://www.nationmaster.com/red/graph-T ... ap&int=100HazelNuit wrote:Wow, thanks very much for the thought out answer-- I realized that US probably is #1 since we do have the most people right? I, however, am not trying to slim the enormity of it that's going around but there's a number of considerations to take in. One is the influx of Japanese (and other Asian) people going into Korea for plastic surgery -since it's cheaper there. A tourism industry is developing for that. The numbers that you read at the above link should be taken into account according to this fact. This is not something casual journalism will usually cover.
On a side note, I've read somewhere that China, currently, has the highest growth rate of Plastic surgeons/surgery going around. I have no idea if this is true but it's something to think about.
Fake boobs? Her boobs are merely chubbs. They are hardly fake. I think if you look at photos of her I posted on another page of this thread, you can see this easy.I guess I just feel that it's wrong to make yourself, not yourself. Well about the race queen woman she looks like she has fake boobs
I guess I agree (minus that part about make up) but I'm growing less conservative about it..i don't know if that's true but I guess from the older pictures a lot of the people look really different, from ordinary to pretty. I guess I don't see the point, true beauty is when you can look beautiful without anything, if you need surgery or make up or anything to make you look beautiful then it's that "thing" that makes you beautiful, you really aren't beautiful.
It's a casual thing in Korea and South Korea is a small country. Attitudes tend to be extremely prevalent and common and right now there is no stigma attached to cosmetic surgery; moreover, Korean live in a highly competitive society where beauty can mean getting the job that you want or being rejected; moreover, cosmetic surgery is relatively cheap and much safer than what it used to be. You combine all these factors you get a very robust marketing culture trend.
Btw, I was just reading someone's blog. There was recently a top 10 beautiful Korean celeb list. Actually, pretty much all of them on that list are natural judging by pics of them that were posted. It's ridiculous when people start thinking that no Korean celebs can be natural -- if she's pretty, she isn't natural! - and that's been the internet crap being used by people who've got nothing better to do than be anti-Korean on the internet -- and I've seen quite a lot of that around.

She's adorable! I think she'll grow up to be beautiful. I first saw her in one of the Drama City dramas when she was younger. When I watched Teacher vs Student recently, I was surprised to see how much she has blossomed. Talent-wise, she's impressive too.zdoon wrote:Lee Seh Young, b 1992. just want to say it again, people dont overdo their plastic surgeries. Im very intrested in the korean society, very very. But of course, many does, but where doesnt stars do it? Just because western stars dont do their eyes (which is obvious for asians), doesnt mean that tthey do it less.
that 9/10 is just dumb, isnt it called racism to jump to such conclusions regarding other's cultures?
and i want more pictures of the full house girl so hawt

No, it's not really racism. The reason why the Koreans get so much flack is that most of them actually think it's acceptable and are even proud that they are getting plastic surgery, that is the main reason they get so much dissing.tokyo shounen wrote:just want to say it again, people dont overdo their plastic surgeries. I personally think it's sad that Korea is turning out such an artificial--fake if you will--society. To all the people who get brainwashed into thinking Korea, the country, actually has so many beautiful average Joes and Janes, you'll be so grossly shocked if you actually visit the country. They, like every other country, have tons of UGLY average Joes and Janes. Please don't let their propaganda machine brainwash you into thinking all Koreans chicks look as great as KPC or My Sassy Girl.
This is not anit-Korean racist BS. (I actually really like a lot of K-movies but can't say the same for K-dramas though.) This is some much needed objective counter-balancing of all the pro-Korean cheerleading crap we see on this website and in their dramas and movies.

And i never said that everyone in korea is hot, do normal 18 + peeps really believe that?
Propaganda? Get some perspective, koreans, japanese, asia are teh same regarding usa - everyone is johny depp, britney spears that is. Their view of west is brutal.
I guess its the same for us asianfans, but you and me do know that there are hotties/fuckfaces everywhere in our community, at school and so on. Its the same in korea.
What i want to say is that it sucks when people have to comment every pic of a korean girl with "OH PLASTIC!!". I have even heard "everyone in korea is plastic, even 10 year old girls" - isnt it pretty silly.
Maybe its jelous ugly western girls who strikes hard ;)

are you an idiot or just a plain friggin moron?
where the hell is there a connection between cosmetic surgery and a propaganda to promote the beauty of women ??? have i missed sometin here??
if there are so many ungly joes in korea, then that just disproves yuor theory about lots of koreans getting plastic surgery don't it?. btw when was the last time you visited that place?
and as has been said already, the good ol us of a leads teh world in plastic surgery scalps by a country mile and then some. and japan is much ahead of korea in that are a as well.
and lets get serious here, if you want superfluous societyies, they don't come much more so than America - and i say this with the greatest respect as they stand for much good as well. you must want to live in a society where everyone has read dosteovsky's crime and punishment at least a dozen times.
no, being objective is one thing but one can be redudant about it, obnoxious, hostile, repetitive, disrespectful or closeminded to the point of bigotry. posting posts for the sake of indulging infantile hatefulness that have nothing to do with a thread which is about notably pretty korean celebrities, and going so far as to rant about "brainwashing" etc, is being anti-korean. or if it's not that, it's certainly idiotic and vulgar. you obviously know little about koreans and i doubt you've ever been to korea. yet you don't mind making stray comments about it.BT-Slut wrote:No, it's not really racism. Please don't let their propaganda machine brainwash you into thinking all Koreans chicks look as great as KPC or My Sassy Girl.
This is not anit-Korean racist BS. (I actually really like a lot of K-movies but can't say the same for K-dramas though.) This is some much needed objective counter-balancing of all the pro-Korean cheerleading crap we see on this website and in their dramas and movies.
to be fair, you yourself may not be a racist -- not that i've accused you of being one. maybe you are some ironically shallow guy with a fondness for the term "slut" who knows a thing about computers and who tends to be impulsively curmudgeonly toward anything you dislike which includes the popularity of k dramas on this board. that's one thing, that's not exactly a bad thing either, and everyone's entitled to a personality. but you don't represent every negative troll out there. some people post because they are racist, because they are hateful, shallow, and are extremely closeminded. these negative gits exist too. unfortunately, you don't grasp the larger perspective and prefer instead to play out a divisive agenda. i think that's unfortunate but it's predictable and i expected nothing more from you.
I only think a handful of the girls posted in this thread are really pretty. Some of them don't look that good cuz their eyes seem too round or something, surgery or not. The ones I do find pretty, however, are just wonderful. I don't think too many things can beat a gorgeous Korean girl.
I think Lee Sun Young looks friggin AMAZING. I dunno if she's had surgery or not, but she's got that beautiful genuine Korean look about her. Nice natural boobs, too.

zdoon, I get tired of your little attention-whoring, childish antics. You obviously aren't really as stupid as you make yourself out to be--given your decent command of the English language--so why do you insist on being such a moron? If you "expected nothing more from" me, then why do you even read my posts? Why not just ignore all my posts? In fact, in reality, you obsess over me. Your envy/jealousy of me is absolutely pathetic. I just don't get it.zdoon wrote: no, being objective is one thing but one can be redudant about it, obnoxious, hostile, repetitive, disrespectful or closeminded to the point of bigotry. posting posts for the sake of indulging infantile hatefulness that have nothing to do with a thread which is about notably pretty korean celebrities, and going so far as to rant about "brainwashing" etc, is being anti-korean. or if it's not that, it's certainly idiotic and vulgar. you obviously know little about koreans and i doubt you've ever been to korea. yet you don't mind making stray comments about it.

I don't give a rat's ass if you believe I've been to Korea or not, but since this is a public post and not a PM, for the rest of the readers, I will disclose that I've indeed been to Korea--twice in fact. And all the K-movies I've seen in the past year certainly has enlightened me quite a bit to Korean culture. I know as much about Korea and Korean culture and attitudes as the K-movies portray. If the movies portray Korea in a false manner, then your beef is with the K-movie industry. Take it up with them.
Incidentally, our family dentist was Korean from Korea. Then he past away and the lady who took over his practice was also from Korea. I've had Korean dentists for over 20 years now.
zdoon, you know nothing about me, including my gender. Your ignorant assumtions of me in this post are even more obtuse than usual. Stop being such a lamer and live your own life. You needn't follow me around like a little pathetic dog chasing after its master.
sit boo-boo... sit!
