Thx to the web page http://www.kawaii-joyuu.com/?p=2646 I learned about this upcoming drama special.

Talk about an all-star cast! I can't wait to see this.....
Title: わが家の歴史
Title (romaji): Wagaya no Rekishi
Format: 3-part Tanpatsu
Broadcast network: Fuji TV
Broadcast period: Spring 2010
From 9.10.2009:
Synopsis: (from Kawaii Joyuu)
"Today Fuji TV announced its big 3-episode dorama special that is going to commemorate the station’s 50th anniversary. No other than Mitani Koki (48 ) is going to provide the script for the dorama called "Wagaya no Rekishi" (My Family’s History) which is going to air next spring. It is going to tell the story of a family’s life during 1945~1964 (Showa period) and at the same time it is going to tell us a bit about the period in general. Shibasaki Kou (28 ), Matsumoto Jun (26), Sato Ryuuta (29), Horikita Maki (20), Nagasawa Masami (22), and Eikura Nana (21) are going to portray the members of that family, but the list of the doesn’t end here!
The story focuses on the "Yame Family" and its 7 family members. It starts in 1945, so it will be interesting to see how families lived right after the end of th war. "It’s the first time we are mixing the genre of a family dorama with a post-war dorama," Mitani comments. "During that long story, we are going to see laughter, tears, romance, suspense and love within the family and not to forget the classic teledrama component. I couldn’t have wrote something like that, if it wasn’t for the 50th anniversary." He added.
Of course, a 50th anniversary dorama has to come with an amazing cast and Fuji TV really did a great job in getting a lot of top-class actors and actresses. Above you already heard about the 5 starring people who are going to play the siblings of the family, but you are also going to see popular stars such as Sato Kouichi (48 ), Nagasawa Masami (22), Ooizumi You (36) and Amami Yuuki (42) who we are used to see in starring roles as well. Nishida Toshiyuki (61) and Fuji Sumiko (63) are going to play the parents of the Yame family.
For the 5 people playing the siblings, plus Nagasawa and Ooizumi, it’s going to be the first time they are appearing in a dorama or movie written by Mitani. Shibasaki who is going to play the eldest daughter: "Instead of all-smiles, it’s going to be a very deep story and I’m glad to be a part of it." Matsumoto, the eldest son: "I’m very happy to be able to participate in such a wonderful project."
Other comments from some of the actors: "It’s a great honor to participate in a project of a great senior from my university." (Sato Ryuuta) – "I’m very happy to become a part of the Mitani family." (Nagasawa)
This dorama is going to be the last of 5 planned anniversary projects by Fuji TV. Many big moments of the Showa period are going to be portrayed next to the family story, such as the Teikoku Bank Incident, the US-Japan Security Treaty conflicts, the start of the Shinkansen trains, the Olympics in Tokyo and so on. Fuji TV is already really full of expectations for their big birthday dorama, "We are confident that you’ve never seen a dorama like this before!" So far, so good, but how are we supposed to endure the anticipation until spring next year?"

So far, my most favorite Mitani Koki's pieces are Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald(Rajio no Jikan), Warai no Daigaku (University of Laugh), Shinsengumi, and Ohsama no Resutoran. I really laughed alot watching those! Let's see if this drama can surpasses these masterpieces.HypnoSurf22 wrote:Oh good update yanie
I'm sure this drama has been a big challenge for Mitani Koki-san. Hopefully it turns out to be great. I see that he worked on the drama Furuhata Ninzaburo. Haha I used to love that show.
Comedy sets in the post-WWII is probably the best combination. The same combination for "Warai no Daigaku", and it was one of the most brilliant comedy movie I ever watched

Hehe and now Keibuho Yabe Kenzo is runnig in the tv. The first scene with Namase was damn funny!! He stopped a runnig gangster with pulling a rope while he hides himself behind some pallets. His partner shot a picture of him while he is striking attitudes with a really funny face . I hope someone will record this!

Yes, conseidering what has been said someplace else, 21% is a high rating.
Thanks to UJf who uploaded all episodes here, I can see every detail in the background (Keyhole has limits, you know, heh), and I'm impressed, every detail is exact. Glasses, clocks, even photo-frames. This drama is a little gem^^
(I will tell the filmmakers in my country: Watch, you morons, and learn how to make a great series/movies!)
Update. In case anyone wants: Korean subtitles for ep 01.

i finished watching it last night. i am sad to say that it did not really matched my excitment for it. even thought it was beautifully done and was very powerful but still felt like watching a documentary and not a proper story.
i was wondering about the dialect they have been using. it reminded me of Utahime drama but i don't know if it's the same (Tosa Dialect) one or not. i had kind of hard time adjusting to it. to me, it felt like most of actors were struggling with it too. it just did not sound right when it came out of their mouth and you could see they having hard time talking.
maybe is only my ears.
my most favourite character is of course their dad (who i really like from Tiger & Drago days) and Sato Ryuta who never disappoint me in anything he deos. he just too good and too adorable. and i always lik nana's smile.
and it is always good to see actors like Sato Koichii and Naka Kichi together in one drama. brings back old memories for me.
as for Yoshio, i thought he was ok, so why the face E-chan?

Hmm, Taizo was my favorite character, but then again, I watched it on Keyhole, so most of the part I missed the sound or the video. I don't get the same impression about difficulty with accent, not really.
And Yoshio? Because of Yukari, you know...
But I need to watch it properly, with audio and video at the same time, grr... maybe I missed something. Didn't he say he won't stop looking for her?

I'm afraid Mitani Koki has lost his touch His recent works has never matched up my excitement since Uchoten Hotel and Magic Hour.Issy wrote:i finished watching it last night. i am sad to say that it did not really matched my excitment for it. even thought it was beautifully done and was very powerful but still felt like watching a documentary and not a proper story.
The Yonimo Kimyou na Monogatari story he wrote and starred himself last April 4, was so boring too.
Wagaya is not bad though, it's a good heart-warming family drama, but everything were just too futsu for Mitani Koki level. What I love from his works is the hillarious idea of the story, hillarious Mitani Koki-style dialogues and scenes... and I couldn't see all these in Wagaya no Rekishi. Kinda disappointed.
The only story I loved and care about was Taizo and Masako's first met and how Taizo met Masako's family. It was romantic. But after they got "married" (start living together), everything gets more and more draggy. None of the siblings' stories intrigued me. I was rooting for Fusako and Tezuka-sensei, too bad they didn't end up together (oh well, I guess that's bcoz Tezuka is a non-fictional character).
I had the exact same feeling as yours. The younger cast couldn't deliver the Hakata-ben lines naturally... they even often overlapping it with Tokyo-ben. The older ones like Nishida Toshiyuki and the mother did a great job though. Sawa Suzuki (Muneo's wife) did a great job too. Shibasaki Kou's Hakata-ben was passable.Issy wrote:i was wondering about the dialect they have been using. it reminded me of Utahime drama but i don't know if it's the same (Tosa Dialect) one or not. i had kind of hard time adjusting to it. to me, it felt like most of actors were struggling with it too. it just did not sound right when it came out of their mouth and you could see they having hard time talking. maybe is only my ears.
Actually Horikita Maki did excellent in faking a certain accent in ALWAYS movie, what dialect was that? But her Hakata-ben in Wagaya was not too good.
Honestly, not really many Japanese actors and actresses can fake accents perfectly, most of them has to struggle with it. One actress who always nailed fake accents is Kanno Miho, so far from what I've seen, I've heard her speaking in Tosa dialect, Satsuma dialect, and she spoke it all perfectly and naturally. I've also heard Hirosue Ryoko faking Kansai dialect, and I think she did such an excellent job.
Anyway, I finally watched the 3rd part in a fast-fwd mode. Totally not a story I expected from Mitani Koki This is just a very futsu family drama, that any other writer can write.
I'm sorry, Mitani-san. But I'm still your #1 fan and waiting for the day when you'll be able to write comedy as good as you used to be!!^^
OK, in case someone needs timing for subtitles:
These are Korean, but timing is exactly for the files uploaded here by Ujf, so basically, just put a translation in the right place.
Who's working on subs, anyway?

ahhh, i've been meaning to pick this drama up to watch, but given the reviews here, i guess it's another boring documentary-like special? i was worried about that. there are such high expectations for all-star dramas, but then you watch it, and you usually get disappointed.
maybe i'll watch the first episode when it gets subbed, just to see how it's like for myself, but idek... =/
