Ethlenn.
Yes you are right re Mildred. It bugged me all through the night because I irritated the grey cells knowing I had chopped her name. I have changed it... and then went on to read your post and that lovely song. I think in some ways we are musically the same age. I do so love the way lyrics used to be written. So meangingful and smart, but never silly if done by the right lyricist. Later on the only good lyrics seemed to come from modern folk singers.
I greatly admire Cole Porter for his wit with lyrics. There is a great site for his lyrics.
One of my favourites..

In olden days
A glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking
Now heaven knows
Anything goes..... etc etc ect...

It's amazing the lyrics I compose when washing a few dishes at the kitchen sink. They all vanish with the water going down the drain.

That is great, and so true...
The same goes for Mike Oldfield, and although I disapprove his electronic music, I love his old stuff. He writes his own lyrics (I mean, he doesn't sing, but th others), and lyrics for Moonlight Shadow were written while waiting for a recording, in 15 minutes.

I have no idea what happened to modern western music. That is why I find Korean one so nice. I don't really need to listen about "taking someone to the candy shop". No, really.

Right now I am listening to Alex on his last album
My Vintage Romance.

When he writes lyrics they are very romantic and I think he is a romantic guy. I have seen him a couple of times singing online and also acting in 'Pasta'. Quiet and calm role but not wooden. He has a soothing voice, very enticing and I can imagine he knows quite a bit about women. Plays piano and guitar to accompany himself. He is also a very good jazz musician.
Makes me feel glad I am now old enough to know what this would do to me if I were listening at his age....or even a bit older. quite outward bound I'm afraid...!

There is a strange relationship between me and Clazziquai. I either hate their songs or love them.
I like the song they recorded with Lee Seung Yul, it gives me the shivers^^
But Alex is one very, very talented young man...

Well I have come to realise that in my youth he is the kind of person that I would never be able to resist. And it would be no good in the end because he would have never been ready to commit. Now I think he is in need but for me it's too late buster. Your loss man.

I found the one for me. Not the best singer but everythng else was heroic.

Alex dear never mind the sunshine. the moon and the stars were plenty for me 8) .

I downloaded the album and I will llisten to it when I wake up.

The bad thing with "commitment" is uncertainty and also the vast form of it. Commitment seeks big words, unbearable words, like "always", "forever", "with all my might", "only"... I guess many people don't realize the power of words and use it so freely. I love you, I hate you, I wish your dead, I hope you're fine... all this became just a cliche, just another need of saying. Nothing more.

Moon and stars?

Edited: not important.

Moon and Stars...Going to the heights with feelings...passions...excitement.

Moon and Stars...where my true love is now flying freely without his plane. When he left it was an October hunter's moon. Very large, very bright and a very clear sky.

Sunshine is what Alex sings about in one of the songs. Track 12 I think called Daydreaming. Also Track 6 Feel like Making Sunshine for you.

He has confidence in his singing there is no stress at all. You could be sitting with someone else and he would make it all so comfortable.

Ah..commitment...'til Death do us part'

I like Daydreaming song.
And this album has one surprise: the bonus track. I love Hwabun so much in Loveholic version, so hearing it in his velvety voice just made my day. It immediately jumped into my playlist.
This album feels different from the usual Clazziquai sound. And I have to say I like it more. Because listening to Clazziquai albums for the first time, I was sometimes unpleasantly shocked by a sudden hip-hop among the nice, wavy sounds...

My favorite is Waltz Lesson song with the vocal of Whale (she's from W & Whale), aww, soo nice^^

I simply adore Alex' voice. It is so soothing! And I love his album. The girl from clazziquai also has a nice voice, I like their more jazzy albums.

His acting performance is another story...

That is why I have mixed feelings about Clazziquai. As much as I like Alex solo album, the band was too unpredictable (in a bad way). OK, I don't like hip hop, maybe can tolerate Epic High in some normal amount.
The jazzy and bossa nova music was good, soo good...

I do not like hip hop and not too keen about rap. It is very tempting to do a rap and I have done that a few times. I love most jazz especially the early kind and I liked the big band sound. don't hear that any more. I like the S.American rhythms expecially tangos.
Had a special partner to do the tango. Used to play in a small group and we attempted that style but we weren't emotionally or psychologically equipped for it.... :roll

Ah well memories.....the days grow short when you reach September...

I always said: regret of doing something instead of not doing something. That's better.

People we met and will meet, places we've been and will be... Life is a journey.
One of my favorite poems in some book:
I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.

The Lord of the Rings
Bilbo's song, The Fellowship of the Ring Book 2, Chapter 'The Ring Goes South'.
Yes, I can feel the breath of Fall on my neck already...

That poem conjures up a lot of past emotions and places and people.

One I like is song

Oh, it's a long long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
And you ain't got time for waiting game

When days dwindle down to a precious few
September November,
And these few golden days I'd share with you
Those golden days I share with you

When you meet with the young girls early in the Spring
You court them in song and rhyme
They answer with words and a clover ring
But if you could examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And the plentiful waste of time of day
A plentiful waste of time

Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you

I'm sure you know this too.

Aww, Frank Sinatra (or maybe I'm wrong?)...

And since we are in this mood

Rainer Maria Rilke: Loneliness:

Being apart and lonely is like rain.
It climbs toward evening from the ocean plains;
from flat places, rolling and remote, it climbs
to heaven, which is its old abode.
And only when leaving heaven drops upon the city.

It rains down on us in those twittering
hours when the streets turn their faces to the dawn,
and when two bodies who have found nothing,
dissapointed and depressed, roll over;
and when two people who despise eachother
have to sleep together in one bed-

that is when loneliness receives the rivers...

Yes, Autumn sound.

Oh Ethlenn.

That is so sad. I wish I could write the answering poem..
I sleep alone but I feel the weight of the one who is gone many times.
In fact I turn over and expect to put my arm around him.
No-one is there after that one breath.

re September Song

Many people covered that song. It was a great favourite. Originally it was sung or 'musically talked' by an older actor ..Walter Huston. It was a Broadway musical play.

If I am right I think he was John Huston's father. Great actor

It is a long time ago and I still could be wrong. But the song is good.

I know this song only in Frank Sinatra version, but when I see "musical", it's like a catnip for a cat^^ Will try to find more about it.

Rainer Maria Rilke wrote sad poems, mostly about loneliness, lost faith and disappointment. He was kind of emo, more talented though^^

Been lurking around and enjoying your dialogue, again :)
Ethlenn, that is an interesting translation of Rilke's poem. Never read any of his poems in English before, somehow it has a slightly different feel. But yes, Rilke is one of the greatest lyricists of the last century imo. He was kinda born into the wrong times, a drifter and vagabond and too sensitive for that era. He was influenced by Nietzsche and I guess Schopenhauer a lot and he directed his focus on the raw human actions and feelings. You are right, a lot of his poems deal with lonliness, estrangement and ugliness but they are very beautifully written. I especially like his symbolist phase - poems like the famous 'the panther'

About autumn:
Chanson d'automne

Les sanglots longs
Des violons
De l'automne
Blessent mon coeur
D'une langueur
Monotone.

Tout suffocant
Et blême, quand
Sonne l'heure,
Je me souviens
Des jours anciens
Et je pleure

Et je m'en vais
Au vent mauvais
Qui m'emporte
Deçà, delà,
Pareil à la
Feuille morte.

I love Rilke's sensitivity. And since I don't know the poems in original language, I rely on the translations here. And I must say that the translation of Loneliness in my native tongue is even better than in English. My language is called "rustling", that is why the sounds of rain, drops, walls, rivers sound more onomatopoeic.

Ans since Ara mentioned Verlaine (I don't quite like him though), time to say a bit about other poetes saturnines, more a symbolist and a great poet: Baudelaire. He also had one poem called Chant d'automne (with translation to English)
Chant d'automne

I

Bientôt nous plongerons dans les froides ténèbres;

II

Même pour un ingrat, même pour un méchant;

— Charles Baudelaire

Song of Autumn

I

Soon we shall plunge into the cold darkness;
Farewell, vivid brightness of our short-lived summers!
Already I hear the dismal sound of firewood
Falling with a clatter on the courtyard pavements.

All winter will possess my being: wrath,
Hate, horror, shivering, hard, forced labor,
And, like the sun in his polar Hades,
My heart will be no more than a frozen red block.

All atremble I listen to each falling log;
The building of a scaffold has no duller sound.
My spirit resembles the tower which crumbles
Under the tireless blows of the battering ram.

It seems to me, lulled by these monotonous shocks,
That somewhere they're nailing a coffin, in great haste.
For whom? — Yesterday was summer; here is autumn
That mysterious noise sounds like a departure.

II

I love the greenish light of your long eyes,
Sweet beauty, but today all to me is bitter;
Nothing, neither your love, your boudoir, nor your hearth
Is worth as much as the sunlight on the sea.

Yet, love me, tender heart! be a mother,
Even to an ingrate, even to a scapegrace;
Mistress or sister, be the fleeting sweetness
Of a gorgeous autumn or of a setting sun.

Short task! The tomb awaits; it is avid!
Ah! let me, with my head bowed on your knees,
Taste the sweet, yellow rays of the end of autumn,
While I mourn for the white, torrid summer!

— William Aggeler, The Flowers of Evil (Fresno, CA: Academy Library Guild, 1954)

Song of Autumn

I

Soon into frozen shades, like leaves, we'll tumble.
Adieu, short summer's blaze, that shone to mock.
I hear already the funereal rumble
Of logs, as on the paving-stones they shock.

Winter will enter in my soul to dwell —
Rage, hate, fear, horror, labour forced and dire!
My heart will seem, to sun that polar hell,
A dim, red, frozen block, devoid of fire.

Shuddering I hear the heavy thud of fuel.
The building of a gallows sounds as good!
My spirit, like a tower, reels to the cruel
Battering-ram in every crash of wood.

The ceaseless echoes rock me and appal.
They're nailing up a coffin, I'll be bound,
For whom? — Last night was Summer. Here's the Fall.
There booms a farewell volley in the sound.

II

I like die greenish light in your long eyes,
Dear: but today all things are sour to me.
And naught, your hearth, your boudoir, nor your sighs
Are worth the sun that glitters on the sea.

Yet love me, tender heart, as mothers cherish
A thankless wretch, Lover or sister, be
Ephemeral sweetness of the suns that perish
Or glory of the autumn swift to flee.

Brief task! The charnel yawns in hunger horrid,
Yet let me with my head upon your knees,
Although I mourn the summer, white and torrid
Taste these last yellow rays before they freeze.

— Roy Campbell, Poems of Baudelaire (New York: Pantheon Books, 1952)

Chant d'automne

I

soon shall we plunge 'neath winter's icy pall;
farewell, bright fires of too-brief July!
even now I hear the knell funereal
of falling fire-logs in the court close by.

once more on me shall winter all unroll:
wrath, hatred, shivering dread, Toil's cursèd vise,
and like the sun in his far hell, the pole,
my heart shall be a block of crimson ice.

I wait aghast each loud impending log;
thus, criminals 'neath rising gibbets cower.
o dreadful battering-ram! my soul, agog,
quivers and totters like a crumbling tower,

till to my dream the cradling echoes drum
like hammers madly finishing a bier.
— for whom? — June yesterday; now fall is come!
mysterious dirge, who has departed here?

II

I love your long green eyes of slumberous fire,
my sweet, but now all things are gall to me,
and naught, your room, your hearth nor your desire
is worth the sunlight shimmering on the sea.

yet love me, tender heart! a mother be
even to an ingrate, or a wicked one;
mistress or sister, be as sweet to me
as some brief autumn or a setting sun.

'twill not be long! the hungering tomb awaits!
ah! let me — brow at peace upon your knees —
savour, regretful of June's parching heats,
this balmy soft October, ere it flees!

— Lewis Piaget Shanks, Flowers of Evil (New York: Ives Washburn, 1931)
You don't want me to start on the "enfant terrible", the dark demon of Verlaine - Arthur Rimbaud. Because I'm pretty obsessed about this psycho^^

You know, funny thing, because as much as I don't like Japanese literature, I adore, admire and worship Akutagawa. And as much as I don't like poetes saturnines in France, I worship Rimbaud. I studied French for his poems and prose, heh...

Something more of Baudelaire:
Obsession
Grands bois, vous m'effrayez comme des cathédrales ;

And translations:
Obsession

Great woods, you frighten me like cathedrals;
You roar like the organ; and in our cursed hearts,
Rooms of endless mourning where old death-rattles sound,
Respond the echoes of your De profundis.

I hate you, Ocean! your bounding and your tumult,
My mind finds them within itself; that bitter laugh
Of the vanquished man, full of sobs and insults,
I hear it in the immense laughter of the sea.

How I would like you, Night! without those stars
Whose light speaks a language I know!
For I seek emptiness, darkness, and nudity!

But the darkness is itself a canvas
Upon which live, springing from my eyes by thousands,
Beings with understanding looks, who have vanished.

— William Aggeler, The Flowers of Evil (Fresno, CA: Academy Library Guild, 1954)

Obsession

You forests, like cathedrals, are my dread:
You roar like organs. Our curst hearts, like cells
Where death forever rattles on the bed,
Echo your de Profundis as it swells.

My spirit hates you, Ocean! sees, and loathes
Its tumults in your own. Of men defeated
The bitter laugh, that's full of sobs and oaths,
Is in your own tremendously repeated.

How you would please me, Night! without your stars
Which speak a foreign dialect, that jars
On one who seeks the void, the black, the bare.

Yet even your darkest shade a canvas forms
Whereon my eye must multiply in swarms
Familiar looks of shapes no longer there.

— Roy Campbell, Poems of Baudelaire (New York: Pantheon Books, 1952)

Aux émanations de ton corps enchanté ;

Eng.:

ANGEL of gaiety, have you tasted grief?
Shame and remorse and sobs and weary spite,
And the vague terrors of the fearful night
That crush the heart up like a crumpled leaf?
Angel of gaiety, have you tasted grief?

Angel of kindness, have you tasted hate?
With hands clenched in the shade and tears of gall,
When Vengeance beats her hellish battle-call,
And makes herself the captain of our fate,
Angel of kindness, have you tasted hate?

Angel of health, did you ever know pain,
Which like an exile trails his tired footfalls
The cold length of the white infirmary walls,
With lips compressed, seeking the sun in vain?
Angel of health, did ever you know pain?

Angel of beauty, do you wrinkles know?
Know you the fear of age, the torment vile
Of reading secret horror in the smile
Of eyes your eyes have loved since long ago?
Angel of beauty, do you wrinkles know?

Angle of happiness, and joy, and light,
Old David would have asked for youth afresh
From the pure touch of your enchanted flesh;
I but implore your prayers to aid my plight,
Angel of happiness, and joy, and light.

Ah Ethlenn, great minds do think alike. Arthur Rimbaud and Beaudelaire (and Verlaine) were the reasons why I managed to somewhat focus on French back in school though I never aquired the level to understand them without the help of translations...Haha when I was young and uncomfortable with the world I read les fleurs du mal over and over. The first one 'Au Lecteur' impressed me like no other piece of lyric ever before. Réversibilité also still has that profound effect on me even now. Haha I shouldn't get started on this here....

As much as Beaudelaire accompanied me in dark hours. Rimbaud always reminds me of the vain pleasures of life. His poetry does create such vivid images which linger even after you've forgotten the words. I couldn't refrain from posting 2 of my faves:
Première Soirée

"- Elle était fort déshabillée
Et de grands arbres indiscrets
Aux vitres jetaient leur feuillée
Malinement, tout près, tout près.

Assise sur ma grande chaise,
Mi-nue, elle joignait les mains.
Sur le plancher frissonnaient d'aise
Ses petits pieds si fins, si fins

- Je regardai, couleur de cire
Un petit rayon buissonnier
Papillonner dans son sourire
Et sur son sein, - mouche ou rosier

- Je baisai ses fines chevilles.
Elle eut un doux rire brutal
Qui s'égrenait en claires trilles,
Un joli rire de cristal

Les petits pieds sous la chemise
Se sauvèrent : "Veux-tu en finir !"
- La première audace permise,
Le rire feignait de punir !

- Pauvrets palpitants sous ma lèvre,
Je baisai doucement ses yeux :
- Elle jeta sa tête mièvre
En arrière : "Oh ! c'est encor mieux !...

"Monsieur, j'ai deux mots à te dire..."
- Je lui jetai le reste au sein
Dans un baiser, qui la fit rire
D'un bon rire qui voulait bien.....

- Elle était fort déshabillée
Et de grands arbres indiscrets
Aux vitres jetaient leur feuillée
Malinement, tout près, tout près.

The First Evening
- She was very much half-dressed
And big indiscreet trees
Threw out their leaves against the pane
Cunningly, and close, quite close.

Sitting half naked in my big chair,
She clasped her hands.
Her small and so delicate feet
Trembled with pleasure on the floor.

- The colour of wax, I watched
A little wild ray of light
Flutter on her smiling lips
And on her breast, - an insect on the rose-bush.

- I kissed her delicate ankles.
She laughed softly and suddenly
A string of clear trills,
A lovely laugh of crystal.

The small feet fled beneath
Her petticoat: "Stop it, do!"
- The first act of daring permitted,
Her laugh pretended to punish me!

- Softly I kissed her eyes,
Trembling beneath my lips, poor things:
- She threw back her fragile head
"Oh! come now that's going too far!...

Listen, Sir, I have something to say to you..."
- I transferred the rest to her breast
In a kiss which made her laugh
With a kind laugh that was willing...

- She was very much half-dressed
And big indiscreet trees threw
Out their leaves against the pane
Cunningly, and close, quite close.

- As translated by Oliver Bernard: Arthur Rimbaud, Collected Poems (1962)

Les parfums ne font pas frissonner sa narine ;

The Sleeper in the Valley

It is a green hollow where a stream gurgles,
Crazily catching silver rags of itself on the grasses;
Where the sun shines from the proud mountain:
It is a little valley bubbling over with light.

A young soldier, open-mouthed, bare-headed,
With the nape of his neck bathed in cool blue cresses,
Sleeps; he is stretched out on the grass, under the sky,
Pale on his green bed where the light falls like rain.

His feet in the yellow flags, he lies sleeping. Smiling as
A sick child might smile, he is having a nap:
Cradle him warmly, Nature: he is cold.

No odour makes his nostrils quiver;
He sleeps in the sun, his hand on his breast
At peace. There are two red holes in his right side.

- As translated by Oliver Bernard: Arthur Rimbaud, Collected Poems (1962)
I am not familiar with Akutagawa, nor any other Japanese lyricist. If ever I'll get to an advanced level of Japanese, I'll look him up.

Dormeur du Val is one of my favorites of Rimbaud!! It's just too perfect! It's amazing how he could quit writing at the age of 23 and he never got back to it.
Also there is
L'Eternité

Elle est retrouvée.
Quoi ? - L'Eternité.
C'est la mer allée
Avec le soleil.

Ame sentinelle,
Murmurons l'aveu
De la nuit si nulle
Et du jour en feu.

Des humains suffrages,
Des communs élans
Là tu te dégages
Et voles selon.

Puisque de vous seules,
Braises de satin,
Le Devoir s'exhale
Sans qu'on dise : enfin.

Là pas d'espérance,
Nul orietur.
Science avec patience,
Le supplice est sûr.

Elle est retrouvée.
Quoi ? - L'Eternité.
C'est la mer allée
Avec le soleil.

It has been found again.
What? – Eternity.
It is the sea fled away
With the sun.

Sentinel soul,
Let us whisper the confession
Of the night full of nothingness
And the day on fire.

From humain approbation,
From common urges
You diverge here
And fly off as you may.

Since from you alone,
Satiny embers,
Duty breathes
Without anyone saying: at last.

Here is no hope,
No orietur.
Knowledge and fortitude,
Torture is certain.

It has been found again.
What? – Eternity.
It is the sea fled away
With the sun.
There are 2 slightly different versions of this poem. One - when he wrote it separately, and the second one when it was included in "Derniers Vers", and he worked on it later, writing Saison en Enfer (Season in Hell).

Akutagawa wrote few poems, mainly haiku and free poems, but he was a novelist. You can access all of his works (plus China reports) including novels, letters and poems on Aozora Bunko. But since he lived 1892 - 1927 he wrote in modern 20th century Japanese, but in highly intellectual style, so he sometimes used bungo, or stylized on bungo. Still, worth reading especially short stories. The later works are just dark, clouded by the fear of a mental illness, pessimistic and deeply sarcastic.

Ah, L'Eternité!! Rimbaud was a genius. I somehow like how he just kept travelling Africa and the Middle East after he stopped writing. I have a thing for people who spend their lives that way ;)

Thanks for the info on Akutagawa , I'll go there once I managed to learn some kanji ;). I guess his novels haven't been translated?!

I read a novel by Kawakami Hiromi (in translation) recently. It was a small love story about two people (middle aged and elderly) who are content on their own slowly decrease their distance and find to each other. Really a nice work. Wish I had it as a pdf so I could practice reading with it =)

On KNG, I just saw a vid with a him when a thai fan visited him in his office. Made my heavy mood go away in an instant. Too cute!!

I saw the pictures from that visit, so adorable indeed.
He looks good, hopefully he won't get stressed and won't lose weight anymore. I know he can't put more on weight cause of his ankle and knee, but seeing him as he looked lately made me want to bake some banana bread and send it.

Some of Akutagawa's works were translated: Rashomon, In a Grove, Kesa and Morito, A Fool's Life, Kappa, Autumn, and some more, but still, he left over 300 works so it's a lot to translate. My favorite is Bisei's Fidelity. A small sketch, impression, but such beautifully described...

Yes, I'd also like to see him with a bit more meat on those rips ;) Hopefully working in an office with little stress will make him gain some. Haha but it seems he won't be lazy, said he'll use the time to learn English. So adorable... If anybody's looking for the vid...go here

Thanks for the titles. Gonna try one of those to see what he writes about =) But damn, those Koreans are so distracting :lol

I know... They are...

As I lost my interest in Japan somewhere along the first year on my studies (yes, that fast, hehe), I never regained it. I thought this year all my passion would come back, but even after watching those J-dramas, I somehow didn't feel the same thing. Strange thing because I never lost interest in Korean movies, even my 2 year long hiatus (hectic first year of work, forgive me, all of you great Korean actors for negligence), my passion picked up.
It's all because of JJY and KNG who kept me company.

Akutagawa's two short-stories: In a Grove and Rashomon were the base for a movie Rashomon (by Akira Kurosawa). I really love the man, he was so subtle in one sentence and described the raw ugliness in the next. Everything served with true mastery with words, he could evoke every feeling he wanted in reader.

Hmmm... the same goes for Namgil-nim's acting... :notworthy:

Oh, Ara, the link is no good... Now I will start to browse and download again to compensate my loss...
Hmm... there is also Hong Kwangho somewhere, uhihihihi :fear:

Ah, I faintly remember watching that movie at a Kusosawa film fest...A Japanese who writes like Namgilnim acts?! :lol I gotta check him out now =)

Haha sorry to distract you...but you know to date there's only 9 eps of SKKS you'll need something to keep yourself busy with once you've watched those :P

I'm still at the episode 3, but as for now, I just love the series. It's just my type of fluff. I hope they won't ruin this.

And since I downloaded every new video of lovely Namgil-nim, I have to watch another episode of SKKS... ehh, addiction will most likely kill me^^

Ethlenn,
So much I want to replyto here but right now I am going to try and give you a link for a Charlie Rose interview with Gloria Stuartwho was a favouite of mine. She just died at 100 and this interview was done when she was 87. .....ring a bell....

Her part starts at 18 min. Don't bother with the rest I hope this works.

http://www.nj.com/entertainment/index.s ... r_dea.html

Charlie is my darlin. He has late night interviews with everyone of interest in allfield of entertaiment and science etc etc. Just finished a long serios about the brain. It was fascinating (CHARLIE ROSE)

I admire Gloria's style, she does remind me of someone, apart from the light hair and the bluest of eyes still. :whistling:

Excuse typos

Ethlenn.
I hope you were able to get back all your lovely photos of Nam Gil.

Thought it funny that a person who loves Jisub said that she thought KNG looked
'sleazy' with his little mustache. Now..right now...... Jisub has just that kind of mustache.

They both look very attractive to me. Dangerous maybe...but attractive.

There was a DVD on him lately, about his house and so on, apparently.

No it's not Kim Jaewook, it's Park Shi Yeon, they were in drama When Spring Comes.

I saw a video some time ago of him in his house. He had a vicious cold and was signing autographs on photos but he was very pleasant with the person asking questions.

First, I'm sitting lazily like the always lately, and I'm watching the opening for Pusan International Film Festival. I snapped first time when I saw Jeong Jaeyoung, OK, I recovered with opening the window, heh. But then I thought I lost my mind when I though I saw Kim Namgil in it. :faint: They really should place a big sign: Not for you, you stupid woman!

I probably mentioned this, but a man can win my heart if he can make a stupid face, a goofy face. This gentleman here has plenty of goofy expressions up his sleeve.
And saying about his attractiveness, I find myself more attracted to "look but not touch" kind of sensuality. I don't know why though. Ice somehow appeals to me, restraint as well. That is why I had big problem of accepting his Bidam. I didn't like the pretty Bidam, and I still don't. It's not like I like Young Werther type of guys either, but... ah well, let's just say he's one of the kind.

Ah yes Bidam.

Well I must say it annoys me still to hear people raving over Bidam the way they do.

I liked Bidam only because Nam Gil was doing him. and I do mean doing him in such a way that the top of the audience would go gaga but the deeper layers would realise his true devious deliciousness.

I thought that he was delightful in his first appearances. but the true force of his acting came when he began to realise he was a Prince and could maybe .. just maybe.. get to the throne. The one thing that cut him down was his desire to be recognised and loved by his mother. When that didn't happen...then he became really his mother's son from the black heart to the cruel charade.
Only Nam Gil could play that role without being a cartoon character.

I guess Peggy that we are alone, and one more interesting person from my blog in the team, that don't like Bidam, but appreciate the way how he was portrayed.
Everyone just focuses on how bad boy he was, how cool he looked and his love story with Deokman.
1. He wasn't bad boy. He was cruel, black-hearted and appalling.
2. Granted, he looked cool, but behaved like an idiot sometimes.
3. There was no love story. One side love doesn't make a love story.
You are right, mostly audience doesn't get into deeper layers of the characters. All they care is just whether they are cool, bad boys, pretty and have colorful personality.
That is why my favorite characters in QSD was Alcheon and Chilsuk. Anything but those written above.

That is why I have the same problem of being on another rogue's side in SKKS. I really do.

I dunno how you can 'like' Bidam as a person...but I like the way KNG portrayed him.

For me the most memorable role of KNG is Lovers Vanished, closely followed by Miindo. I liked what I saw of him in drama and No Regret but those 2 movies made him rise up to the olymp of actors I adore for their abilities ;)

For me it's No Regret. Watching it with all those two dozens people during the festival, not understanding a word KNG-nim was saying, not noticing anything apart from him... This was actually one of my best days ever.
Lovers Vanished is second though, followed closely by Miindo^^
But I also do like him in Public Enemy Returns. In some scenes I really had problems with keeping my sanity and consciousness though...

I guess we both, Ara, are movie-girls and we prefer to see our men in movies, right? KNG-nim has this quality, that is why he stands out so painfully from the drama cast. He's transcending the drama reality, as I see it.

And yes, no more Bidam. KNG-nim hates this character, so we are entitled to do so as well.

And as I was saying Ethlenn, there is always something more which will reveal itself in any picture of Nam Gil.
My memoriy was, shall we say..., aroused.. when I saw the bare feet. the way those pants just hit his foot in the right place. Just so clean and sharp and not yards of material dripping all over the place. No, just enough so I could feel the way the foot would feel the edge. That brings back so much.
He really does have a knack with every placement and I think he must know what he is doing. He has been here before and tasted life often.
A bare foot can be very inviting...less is more that's for sure. 8)

Seems so odd to say that one misses an actor. Especially one from a country which does everything in Korean. English subs are great but the intonations have to be listened to very carefully in the original language.
Well I miss Kim Nam Gil. I miss hearing little things about what he is working on and how he is enjoying his roles and then how another actor will pass a remark about his pleasure in working with Nam Gil.

It is possible that we may see some photos or a few words sometime in the next two years. He won't be far from home and I guess they have some time off.

Well I miss Kim Nam Gil

Chajatta, Peggy dear^^
I found you, now I will stalk you

It's always like this, the more things I have to do (by yesterday), the less will I feel to do it. I'm just waiting for Saturday...

I know what you mean, 2010 just screwed me over too many times. I'm really tired...

And what am I doing? Still lurking here even though a million books awaits!! OK, I need to really go, get ahold of myself and survive tomorrow.
Hwaiting, love!

Well 2010 got a lot of people by the gonads. For myself the past three years have had me on hold, and still have two more to go for final clearance..which I totally expect by the way.

Right now I am looking around my cave and completely understanding news reports about dessicated body found amid piles of books and boxes.
Lord I have to get off this internet and do some tossing and shredding. where does the time go.....

Yeah let's just use the shredder on the account of 2010. It was a naughty year that did screw me good, too...
