[Discussion] Kaseifu no Mita (Matsushima Nanako)
Finally watched it!!! (YAAAAAAY!!!)
A sequel would be unnecessary but I am interested in the family that's living there lol
A show about how everyone's actions, maturity & experience is helping everyone else around them ^^
-edit]
Just wanted to add I just love how this show brought up issues that.. well.... I won't say are taboo.. but exist that never really gets light shed on too much.

Sorry, everyone. I guess my translation wasn't too good. I translated "to the city," but I should've probably have said "within the city." One of those things that was clear in my mind, but to others it wasn't. I will note it on the subtitles thread and fix the sub.
685 I'm just moving within the city because
686 that building's getting old, you know.

First time I saw Kutsuna Shiori was in "Mei-chan no Shitsuji' and I liked her alot, she was cute. But the more I see her, the more I realized she's not good in serious roles and emotional scenes. I don't like the way she speak too. I wonder if the fact that English was her first language affected her articulations in speaking Japanese. (she was born and raised in Australia until 13-14) Her tone when speaking just sounds weird for me.

I don't like the actress for Yui either. I don't think it's her Japanese issue. I managed to watch Takeshi Kaneshiro and he has accent I think it's her facial expression. Or lack of rather. I don't feel her character other than the fact she's an annoying bi*ch. She was less annoying later but that's pretty due to the script rather than her acting (lack of). Was she in Mei-chan no Shitsuji? LOL ahahah Guess it wasn't memorable enough for me to notice her.
I think my favorite characters are probably Kaito and Kii. The father was okay I guess. He's so spineless, I tend to ignore him. Urara was more likable in the last episode. Her "happy go lucky" personality really made me hate her. You can tell she's trying too hard to be perky and it comes off being pretentious. I was glad Mita told her off in the end.
I think Nanako as Mita was not a bad choice. If it was Amami Yuki, I might have stopped watching. Amami is really scary when she's serious and not smiling. I didn't even finish that teacher drama because she freaks me out. I thought she was a really warped teacher who shouldn't have been one.

That's exactly how I feel too But her speaking tone bothers me too, in my case.seirin wrote:I think it's her facial expression. Or lack of rather. I don't feel her character other than the fact she's an annoying bi*ch.
She gives that bi*ch vibe too, in GOU. I mean, I loved the character so much during her childhood (played by Ashida Mana). But she totally destroyed the character, playing her teenhood
I'm surprised there are some who would compare Nanako and Amami. In terms of the real person, I like Amami Yuki more, she's a funny lady. Nanako is too reserved and is not open. But in terms of acting, I prefer Nanako's. If I were to compare their performances in Mita and Queen, I'd say they're equally good. But Amami's emotional acting really bothers me She annoyed me like hell in GOLD and Diplomat Kuroda Kosaku the movie, everytime she screams like a mentally disturbed woman (which her characters aren't suppose to be mentally disturbed ).
And lately, Amami gets too much of a stereotype role, the kind of tough woman or smth like that. Nanako plays more various roles than Amami.
I like Amami best in Fumo Chitai, playing quite a feminine character.
I honestly can't inderstand why you constantly comparing these two drama and Nanako and Yuki together?mezoomozaa wrote:
Yes and I am getting annoyed by it. I love watching tough and strong women in dramas but I think Yuki has over done it. she is very pretty and delicate woman. I like to see her more in girly/feminine characters for a change.yanie wrote:And lately, Amami gets too much of a stereotype role, the kind of tough woman or smth like that. I think the person is comparing because both roles are quite emotionless. But Yuki's role in Queen of the class has less emotion than Nanako's role as Mita. Quite frankly, I couldn't watch past ep 1 of queen of the class. The teacher role was quite disturbing. You can say she's a bit like Alex Keaton in Family Ties, but at least Alex was funny and I loved the character. I couldn't like Yuki's character in that drama at all. She's like a psycho.Issy wrote: I honestly can't inderstand why you constantly comparing these two drama and Nanako and Yuki together?
I couldn't watch GOLD. That drama was so bad, I don't think any changes could have saved it. I managed to finish Diplomat Kuroda cuz I like Oda Yuji as a hard boiled detective or in this case diplomat. He seems to do those roles well.
I wasn't too and sometimes I still think it's a bit overrated, I like Nanako but she was probably the only good thing in the drama. I didn't care for the rest of the characters.8thSin wrote:Wow, I didn't think a dorama episode would hit 40% viewership again.
I'm still on Ep4 for this though, and I can't say I'm impressed so far...
Ok, I admit I just watched this drama after it finished airing. And just because I thought Wow, a drama with 40% rating - must be fantastic. Not because I thought the plot was great. But all it did was just prove that you cannot judge dramas by their ratings. Never. I'm not saying it's bad, it certainly isn't. It had some surprising moments suspense and cuteness. But for me it wasn't that special. The last episode especially - it seemed so drawn out. Like they hadn't planned the drama to last that long and just added some scenes in the end so it would be longer. The scene at the table with the smiling Mita was almost hard to watch for me. That was overkill. Some people compared it to Jyou no Kyoshitsu and I had the same feeling from the start. But Jyou no Kyoshitsu was much better than this. At least for me. But it really seemed to have struck a chord in the heart of the japanese public it seems....good for them. I just hope there won't be a bunch of dramas with similar plots coming after this.
honestly I don't really satisfied with this dorama.
it is not really amusing n wow
the problems in this dorama are the usual one in another dorama.
like bullying, having an affair, etc
And I think the ending is not really special.
pretty disappointed because I thought it is a good dorama
40% rating for final episode ==
but overall it is a good dorama.

I think the story focuses on issues that isn't talked about often. Such as how divorce affects the children and tears up the family. Children having to cope with divorce. This drama just adds in suicide as well.EriKira wrote: the problems in this dorama are the usual one in another dorama.

There's also the issue of should one marry out of responsibility rather than love? Generally, you would feel if the guy doesn't take responsibility, he's just a player and dumps females at the first sign of trouble rather than being responsible and doing the right thing. But what is the right thing? Marry someone you don't love? It's a complicated issue where it's hard to say what's right and wrong. Having an abortion would kill a life. Having the child and not getting married would leave the child fatherless and the mother a single mother which is difficult, or getting married and risk having a miserable life.
Also the issue of how people like to shift blame to others which can ruin people's lives. An example I recall is the death of Barbara Yung. She tried to commit suicide to get her boyfriend to save her but couldn't reach him. She died because her best friend couldn't get to her on time. The BF was an actor too. But his life turned to misery because every fan that loved the actress hated him and all the press wrote bad things about him and they put all the blame on him. I think he was forced to move out of the country to escape the hate against him. He left the entertainment business for many years.
Episode 8Darez wrote:From what episode does Mita's background get revealed?
I watched the first couple of episodes, but got sick of the family bickering over everything. I'm only interested on what turned Mita into a cyborg.
