i think one of my favourite scenes was when he was hiding in the men's room and after that he was singing and dancing with the other guy xDDD ... (another name i forgot -.-")
oh, i'm sou sure that the first shin pic is hongo kanata ... but i like them both as shin, though i have to admit that i personally think the role better fits hongo kanata than matsuken ... *~*" ... doesn't matter, i love them both sou it's great to see the two of them as shin xD ...

Hopefully promotion starts soon for Nakushita Kioku the movie where he plays in, which is directed by a Director of Hollywood Hans Canosa.

Not the most famous one but he did a movie called Conversation with the other women.

ANA
PRESENTS
NIPPON EIGA SERIES PART 19

NY PREMIERE of
DETROIT METAL CITY

DIRECTED BY TOSHIO LEE
STARRING KENICHI MATSUYAMA, GENE SIMMONS, and others

Japan | 2008 | 103 min. | 35mm film | Japanese with English Subtitles

Thurs., Aug. 20 - Doors open 6:15pm - Film starts 7:00pm
The ImaginAsian, 239 East 59th Street (Bet. 2nd & 3rd Ave.), NYC
For RSVP, www.newyork-tokyo.com/wp/dmc

“Detroit Metal City” (DMC) is a cartoon series started in 2005 on Young Animal magazine. It soon earned a cult following for its eccentric setting, distinctive characters, radical story and the funniest jokes. As soon as it was released as a comic book, it quickly sold out at every
bookstore, and those who couldn’t get the comic were called “DMC refugee”.

The rumor was spread by word of mouth as well as the blog/message board on the Internet, and DMC gained popularity not only among the subculture mania, but also among the writers, actors, musicians, artist, etc, who
then competed to introduce this comic at their shows/columns. With all these phenomenon, the comic sold over 3 million copies to date.

DMC became the front cover of an authoritative culture magazine, Studio Voice, on its issue in September 2006. It also topped the Japanese comic chart in 2006 surpassing “Death Note”, which already had been made into
the award-winning movie.

DMC is the first Death Metal comic book to be released on screen and in animation at the same time. Both were released in August, 2008 in Japan. The animation is produced by STUDIO4°C, known for its recent works such as
“Tekkonkinkreet”, “Animatrix” and “Mindgame”.

In the movie, Gene Simmons of KISS plays the “legendary and world-renowned” Death Metal artist, “Jack IL Dark” who competes with DMC on stage. The final live performance scene is not only the craziest spectacle and the climax of the story, but a collaboration any Death Metal music fan would crave to witness!

Story

Souichi Negishi is a conservative and pure-minded boy, who came to Tokyo from the country in Japan with a dream of becoming a fancy pop-song musician. He writes a song “Raspberry Kiss“ to send to a music label, however, by a mere accident, he is forced to make a debut as the member of the satanic Death metal band “Detroit Metal City” (DMC), whose trademark is an eccentric make-up and destructive performance.

Despite of Souichi’s hope of becoming a lovely pop musician, DMC’s debut single “SATSUGAI - genocide” (which used to be “Raspberry Kiss” before arranged by the madly strange music label’s owner) achieves explosive sales, and Johannes Krauser II bounces up to the position of charisma in the Japanese Death Metal music scene.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend Ms. Aikawa, who loves cute outfit and French pop songs, does not know the fact that Souichi becomes Johannes Krauser II. Therefore, Souichi has to live with the extreme caution to keep this
biggest secret not to disappoint her.

After its sensational debut, DMC continues to build up “legends” as a Death Metal band – defeating a rival band on stage and messed up the live show of the No. 1 Japanese HIP-HOP artist, to name a few. Souichi always,
in all of the cases, first tries to act nicely but presses all the wrong buttons to end up in creating the image of furious Johannes Krauser II. One day, when DMC is totally recognized as an up-and-coming Death Metal
band throughout the country, Souichi has received unexpected news. The legendary Metal artist, Jack IL Dark, starts his world tour and DMC is named to perform on his stage in Japan. The members of DMC and the fans
are thrilled to hear the news, but it gives Souichi (chicken-hearted) a shudder•••

Director: Toshio Lee

Born in 1964 in Osaka. After graduating with a literature major from College of Art, Nihon University, Lee worked on many TV drama productions. He made his feature directorial debut with “Backdrop of My Papa” (2004) and “Detroit Metal City” is his second feature film.

Casts:

Kenichi Matsuyama (L: Change the World), Rosa Ogawa, Yasuko Matsuyuki,

This isn't old news. Unfortunately, Detroit Metal City was never shown in NY. It took awhile for it to be shown in NY but it's finally going to happen! So the lucky people around the NY area can now have the chance to see DMC on August 20th.

I just love this guy. He has a special aura around him...Like he's not really from this world...
Firs saw him in 1 Rittoru no Namida (1 Litre of Tears), honeslty didn't catch my eye...
Then I saw him in Death Note, and I've fell for him since then. I've recently downloaded his "Don't Laugh at My Romance", though I haven't had the chnace to watch it yet. ALso I can't wait to see Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac. Because of him, maybe I liked the character of the book (whom he playes in the movie) more than I should have, can't be objective :D

The live-action movie adaptation of Yumi Unita's manga series "Usagi Drop" now has a cast. Kenichi Matsuyama (25) will play the lead role, supported by child actress Mana Ashida (6). SABU will direct. Other cast members include Karina (26) and Chizuru Ikewaki (28). Filming has already begun and is scheduled to finish during the middle of this month. Summer 2011 is being targeted for theatrical release.

The movie, first announced in June, tells the story of a young and awkward bachelor (Matsuyama) who begins raising a girl (Ashida) after he learns that she is the illegitimate child of his grandfather.

A bit late to join this thread since I've been a fan for about 3 years now, but here I am. He's got lots of promising works coming out and I can't wait.

Kamui was a major disappointment, although his work was great, so I'm looking forward to some good stuff. And I haven't seen Kaiji yet cause I can't stand Fujiwara.
I mean, I did love the anime and all and Kenichi-san is a pretty good reason to watch, but just remembering Fujiwara's usual over-acting makes me shiver. :P

Gotta watch DMC again soon. Missed watching his stuff. Zeni Geba would be nice to watch again as well. For the 3rd time. Ahahaha. It's an amazing series indeed.

Gotta watch DMC again soon. Missed watching his stuff. Zeni Geba would be nice to watch again as well. For the 3rd time. Ahahaha. It's an amazing series indeed.
I don't like Fujiwara Tatsuya either lol. I watched the Death Note movies but didn't find them all that memorable.

Zeni Geba, on the other hand, blew me away. I totally became a fan of MatsuKen after watching it. I'm in the middle of Sexy Voice and Robo at the moment. It's amazing how versatile he is. I look forward to his future works too! :lol

Hello here too, Yami-chan. :D

Kenichi-san has got so much stuff coming out in the next and this year that he'll keep us worlds of busy. His career is skyrocketing right now. I'm very glad. He's worth it. Amazing actor.

If anyone gets a wiff of Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac on DVD, do tell. I mean, it's out on Sep 10th, but when you see it online somewhere, do tell. I might have bought it, had an english subbed version come out. :glare:

Orion!! XD
I've been a fan for years, too. First time I really noticed him must have been as a blonde in Nana. Kamui and Kaji were disappointing, yes but now he's on the up and up again. Told you how excited I am about Norwegian Wood and Gantz.

Can't wait to see Memoirs, too. I'll be stalking all the sites I know as soon as the DVD's out. Guess it should be up pretty soon as Matsuken and Maki do have loads of dedicated fans.

His recent news about Usagi Drop and My Back Page and are also great. It's the first time for him to act with Tsumabuki Satoshi, who I also think is a fine actor. It's set in the late 60ies and based on a true story. Kenichi plays a leftist activist and member of the student movement, Tsumabuki a journalist who secretly meets him and starts to sympatisize with him. He even helps to get rid of some evidences for murder and gets arrested for that. (News from Eiga.com My Japanese isn't great, so I might have gotten something wrong)

I only just heard about the norwegian Wood movie adaption...and that matsuyama kenichi would be the male lead. Im so excited to see this now! Brilliant choice of male lead, so im hoping that the movie does the book justice :)

p.s Orion if you hate Tatsuya Fujiwara then dear god do not watch kaiji. I'm a big Tatsuya fan and even i got sick of his acting in that movie. His overacting assaulted my eyes and his excessive shouting assaulted my eardrums. :blink The movie overall isn't bad but it isn't Tatsuya's finest moment :lol

Skies!! So Matsuken, too? XD

Me too, really hope they'll manage to capture the spirit of the story. At least they can use original beatles songs and the (male) cast is good (Kora Kengo and Tamayama Tetsuji) I found some nice stills and wrote a bit about it here

I'm in the Orion camp when it comes to Fujiwara...but I really hope he'll do fine in Parade cause the story sounds nice.

arakira haha yep! Our tastes seem to be pretty similar :P

Enjoyed your post dear :) Any idea when this is getting cinematic release? (and when us poor non fluent japanese speakers can get english subtitles? :-) )

Mm, i want to see parade as well. The trailer intrigued me, seems pretty different to other stuff i've seen recently - just not sure when/if it's released.

Oh, I forgot to mention the release date :O, It's December 11 in Japan which means about another half a year until the DVD release. But since this is a movie that'll be shown on international film festivals (so far, both Toronto and Venice in September) and probably have releases in other countries, I have my hopes up for a subtitled version. Anyway, I guess it'll get subbed very soon after its DVD release.

Issy, nice to see you here. Hope you're all better?! I gotta give Zeni Genba a second chance. Somehow I just dropped it somewhere in the middle but I can't even remember why...Matsuken's really busy nowadays, a handful of movies plus this drama special to look forward to.

Ah Nakai-san, thanks for telling me his name, I knew I'd seen him in some movies or dramas before. He's the lawyer in 'smile', right?

Never thought about Kusanagi as an actor until Ninkyo Helper. Excited to see how he'll play a bad-ass soldier!!

Some very...very... VEEEERY good news!

From Kenichi Matsuyama Online

Eita and Matsuyama Kenichi Star in Train Otaku Movie!

Eita (27) and Kenichi Matsuyama (25) will co-star as a pair of railroad otaku in a new movie titled “Bokutachi Kyuukou ~A Ressha de Ikou~,” directed by Yoshimitsu Morita (“Kazoku Game,” “Shitsurakuen”).
Morita, who has liked trains since he was a child, has apparently been brewing the script for decades. The story depicts the bond between two railroad enthusiasts who meet while riding the same train.
True to his passion, Morita plans for more than 80 varieties of trains to appear in the film, likely setting a record for a Japanese film. In addition, the characters in the movie have all been given names such as Komachi and Azusa, which are names of existing trains.
The supporting cast includes Keiko Matsuzaka (58 ) and Shihori Kanjiya (24). Filming wrapped up earlier this week, and the finished work is expected to be released in fall 2011.

And an oh-so-lovely and oh-so-geeky picture. I swear, these guys are perfect for the role. Great actors (among the best young actors I've seen in Japan and there aren't a lot) and they are also just so adorable.

Can anyone tell me if he did all the singing on the live action movie CDs? I found where it says it on Wikipedia but no reference was given as to where they got that information. A few of the songs do sound like Matsuyama is singing but I'm not for sure about it.

Thanks!

In Detroit Metal City Ken'ichi sings only the pop-music parts (raspberry kiss or amai koibito). All the metal-music is singed in playback. He does the playback over the Maximum the hormones songs. You can only hear him screaming sometimes during those songs (his screams blend with those of the singer, you must be careful to distinguish his voice in those moments)

I'm sorry, but your English is a bit difficult to understand. Sung in playback? Are you talking about the movie? And what is the "Maximum the hormones songs"? Is this the actual group doing the singing?

I was referring to the actual CD and NOT the movie. Here are links to what I was referring to:
http://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/id287569336
http://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/satsug ... d286239155
http://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/id287006122

I'm assuming Kaji Hideki is singing the Amai Koibito single on one of the links.

Ah Matsuken is such an awesome actor!

I first fell for him on the death note movies ahhhhh his L was so adorable (I know that's not the best word to fit this character but for some reason I every time I saw him I felt like hugging him xD) and this year I had the honor and luck to watch Memoirs on the theaters ;) japanese films never go to the theaters where I live so being able to watch it was just d ( > w < ) b

NOW I'M CRAZY WAITING FOR GANTZ!!! I'll have to wait until the dvd comes out but when it does...it will be amazing *o*

Oh, you are japanese ... wakarimasu!
Well things don't change. The CDs contain the songs from the movie, so the artists who sing in the cd are the same of the movie.
In the cd Amai Koibito and Raspberry Kiss are singed by Kiji Hideki.
All the other song are performed by the japanese metal group called Maximum the Hormones.
For example in the first link ( http://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/id287569336 ) the track #1 is 'Satsugai' and is performed by Maximum the Hormones.

I hope it's all clear now

I thought it was this guy doing the singing for Krauser. Kanmuri Tetsuya. It does say so on his website. Is it the same guy doing vocals for Maximum the Hormone?

In some site it is written that they made all

I've seen the making of too and there is a singer that looks like the leader of the MTH ...

I'm not Japanese at all but just living in Japan, but I assumed you were since you were very vague in your answer, and I get the impression that English is not your native language.

Now that you stated that Kiji Hideki sings the pop songs, and Maximum the Hormones sings the metal songs, that has finally answered my question. Most actors don't sing themselves but rather lip sync the parts and the real voice is added in post production. I didn't know if Japanese movies did the same.

untmdsprt, I think it's just a matter of "lost in translation". I understood what Yami-chan said. Did not find it vague in any way. It's just that you personally did not get it.
English is rarely anyone's first language here and we all have our own quirks and way of speaking/writing it and also understanding it. Most of us adapt to others.

It can be difficult sometimes, especially if the english is generally poor, but then most people don't "get" that person and we gently let them know, without offending, that it needs work.
To evaluate the language skills of someone most people seem to understand as poor and tell them in such a manner when they tried to help you in the first place is not very nice.

I guess we all have things we need to work on. Yami-chan must work on enriching her answers and you on understanding different types of speech and being more diplomatic in your critique.
So let's play nice and acknowledge our diversity in cultures, personalities, language skills etc without demanding that people know and use what works best for us, right? That way it's all fair.

And yes, Hideki Kaji sings the songs in the ost, but it is actually Kenichi that sings them in the movie. In the bar for Hidetaka Asato and in the end and all.
The purpose of the movie is to show how talentless and bad he is as a pop singer with all those cutesy-wootsy songs, so having him sing bad is key.
Hence, they allowed Kenichi to sing those. He is not a singer so that made them seem even more amateurish. Makes the impact of Kura-chan bigger.

I think part of the problem was I had no idea who this Maximum the Hormone was and for someone to throw out a name with no reference makes the entire sentence hard to understand. The other problem is that I don't post enough messages here so I have no idea who anyone is or how they write.

As for anyone's comments, I will point out to them if they are unclear and they need to add more detail. Since you probably know them better than I do, you understand their way of writing. I don't.

Now that you and Yami-chan have both said that Matsuyama isn't the actual singer on the DMC CDs, my question has been answered. Thank you.

What? He and Koyuki? Isn't she a bit tall and way older than him? Let's see how long will their marriage last? Older woman younger guy, is this just for fun?

All real! I hope their marriage last! How cute and honest of him at the press conference about his marriage with Koyuki ...

From my opinion
he gave me a bad boy experience
he should take that more in his drama...

I really like him in Death Note, but his other works doesn't impress me...

if you have any best work of him please let me know...
because all those drama he acts that I watch, not very good one...
