D-Addicts who are also Car-Addicts

Post by PocketKiriyama » Apr 7th, '10, 17:46

Just wanted to start a thread where d-addicters who are also car lovers.

Just to start off, just put what kind of cars you own, modifications if any, and what type of motorsports you like and/or particapate.

Pics of your ride would be great too or even a youtube video.

A '94 E36, actually. :thumright:

But it's getting long in the tooth:I had the front rotors replaced about a month ago.

I think it's time to get a new car.

LOL I'd drive a car I like until the day I die. I'll just keep putting new stuff in the car to keep it in good condition. My family have been owning bmw and toyotas for almost 2 decades now. So aside from having my supra I was set on getting a bmw e46 330ci 6 speed version, but I had other plans for the money 2 years down the line so I decided to get a 93 honda eg6 instead. I'll post some pics of my two cars in a bit and maybe a video too.

Me too, but the repairs are starting to increase... in the past five years, the diff blew, shocks and struts were replaced, new bushings, new rotors, etc... It would've been even more costly had I not done some of the work myself, like changing the oil and filter, replacing pads, replacing belts, replacing plugs, etc.
I'll just keep putting new stuff in the car to keep it in good condition.
Yeah, I try my best to maintain the car, but age does take its toll, like on the plastics, rubber, and paint... And there's not much you can do about it other than try to replace them, if possible.
I'll post some pics of my two cars in a bit and maybe a video too.
Cool. :thumright:

I haven't really started on it yet.
I just bought it over a month ago with the current modifications with the exception of the AEM intake.
For a mere $2000, it was a steal.
The brakes are starting to warp as it couldn't stand my way of driving so I'm actually going go order some drilled rotors this weekend.

I usually don't like to post pictures cause of all the haters but it looks like everyone is respectable around here. People always like to bash honda's cause they think it's rice but any car can become rice depending on your taste. To be a true car enthusiast means you have respect for all cars. Sadly though, I am thinking of selling the lude and just wanting to cruise without being revved at. Waiting to see what that toybaru car looks like, otherwise i'm going for a luxury import.

Very well said. I agree with you 100 percent!
I'm into mostly imports but I won't mind getting a 1969 shelby gt500 or even a camaro of the same year. Problem is those cars are so expensive to buy when the body is not a rust bucket.
Don't sell your car because of a stupid reason like being revved at.
I was in countless times where people revved at me and even do crazy lane changes in front of me just to get me riled up but I usually ignore them.
I get revved at by all types of cars and even pickup trucks when I'm in the supra or the civic.
Just recently I was trying to catch a yellow light on a turn so I cornered really fast with minimal braking and this Hyundai behind me with riced out color and graphics come trailing behind me trying to do the same and almost went out of control because his car understeered. I got nothing against Hyundai but when you riced out a ride you know the driver's an idiot.
I've been following the Lexus LF-A and the Toyota FT-86/Subaru 216A since it first came out in the auto show as a concept.
The LF-A transform from a beautiful and elegant concept to an even more beautiful car but with a much more masculine build. I've never been that much interested in exotic cars but after seeing its test runs in Nurburgring in all types of weather conditions made me want it so badly but there's no way I can have one since they're only making 200 of them. All them filthy rich bastards already sold it out by pre-order.
The FT-86 started out looking like an ugly shark but it's slowly been molded over and over again over the years and it is starting to look pretty awesome now.
This next generation AE86 inspired car might be one I want in the future since I use to own an AE86 myself.

Out of all the Honda motors, I still think the B-series motor is the best. No other Honda motor can compare to its tunability and it's sound when it pitches the high rpm range can only be bested by no other than Toyota's 4age 20v.

Of course, one is Quattro(4 wheel drive) which has(standart) 2,2L engine <3 But Quattro looks much more awesome. Like - lower back end, a bit different front lights and few more things.

First of all that is a pretty nice Prelude. Second I total agree with you about people's opinions of Hondas. They really do get an unfair rap because too many idiots rice them out because parts are cheap for most Honda models. All our car minded friends give me constant crap because my daily driver is a 98 civic.

Yeah I love clean looking cars. Not into decals and graphics on a car. Why would they give you constant crap just because you're driving a civic? As far as I know there's only a handful of cars that can take a tight race course which the best I've seen are the Toyota AE86, Honda EG6 Si-R and EK9 Type R, Honda S2000, Mazda MX5 Roadster, Toyota AW11 - SW20 - ZZW30, and Lancia Delta Integrale. Why these cars usually takes the spot on top is easy to understand. The popular cars that I've seen in autocross like Corvette, Lan-Evo, STi and other expensive but powerful cars are driven by dull individuals with lots of money and no mentality for driving improvement. The worsts of some of them are cars bought by mommy and daddy and they are here thinking their latest machines can take on any one.
I'm not bias towards the cars itself. I actually love the Lan-Evo but a bunch of these people who drives those cars are such assholes that are a bunch of bad sport.
The two best drivers in my area locally drives a Honda s2000 and the other a Mazda Miata MX5. I'm a technology geek but I love the raw feel of a car much more and that is why I've taken all the ABS's out of everyone of my cars. My feet is a much better ABS then any stupid computer.

I drive stick.

If you are too stupid to put a car in neutral, then you shouldn't be given a drivers license to begin with.

Here's a true story that happend to me last year. While driving my prelude around in the city, I noticed my brakes fading and then the brake pedal started going all the way to the floor with no pressure. A feeling of panic rushed over me but I kept my head kool. I geared down to slow the car to a halt, with barely any brake pressure left. I also thought about pulling the ebrake as a last resort in case I was about to rear end another car since I was nearing a red light when it happend. I later pulled into the nearest garage which happend to be my friends Midas shop 2 blocks away. It turned out to be my master brake cylinder went out. What saved me is the manual gear box and driver skill. Understanding your own car and how it works is part of being a driver, cause ANY car can fail, there are NO gurantees, that's why there's auto insurance.

That's exactly what I was talking about with my sister the other day. The driver's abilities have a lot to do with avoiding an accident or not. My car had a sudden acceleration at one time and out of reflex I turned the car off and slowed to stop. It turns out the old accelerator cable on the pulley piece overlapped and got stuck together. My car was a turbo supra and on full throttle it can be nerve wrecking when something like that happens suddenly. Seriously I think at least 76 percent of the American population don't really know how to drive. They need to have the mind set that when they go out on the road they are endangering their own lives and the lives on others and the chance that accident can occur will always present itself occasionally and it is the driver's job to get from point A to point B safely. I see too many people still doesn't use a headset for their hand phones or even text while driving. I do it too but only on a red light or I'd stop then text. Besides I got a my nokia n97 phone on a holder and it got a slide out qwerty mini keyboard so it's so much easier than my brother's Samsung behold when texting.

When I first saw it, it looked unique but not very great for the eyes but as time passes the ft-86 is beginning too look more and more like a sexy beast.

My first car was an automatic, since then I've only driven sticks. As happened to one of the earlier posters, my master cylinder went out as I was approaching the light at a busy intersection while in the left turn lane. I wished I had a standard to downshift with, but my only real option at that point was the emergency brake. Fortunately it worked and I was then able to drive slowly to safety. Now I will only drive a standard as it provides so much more control. I can't see myself owning an automatic until that sad day when I'm too old and my knees give out on me...

I now drive a Honda Civic SI, which is a fun little car, although I miss my A4 at times.

Very nice! I like the color too! It's quite rare!

I use to own one also. Here's a couple pictures of my previous rides.

This is what I use to own before the black civic hatchback I have now.

This one is what I owned before owning the red mr2.

Sweet hardtop! I used to have a '93 SMG hardtop as well. Cool hachi, too. Do you prefer the Civic or the Hachi more?

I prefer the hachi and I really miss it. I sold it to a good friend and I do help him from time to time. He got a 4age 20v black top and currently getting the body work done inside and out. As you can see, I've driven quite a variety of cars but FR cars are the ones that always seems to make me excited every time I drive one. Sadly I had to let go of my hachi because I couldn't connect to it. It seems weird but when I drive I tend to connect with the car, like the car talks to me via feedback of varies parts of itself. I just couldn't do it with that hachi. But I intend on importing a right hand drive ae86 in the future but I might stray from that because of the FT-86 that's probably going to come out in 2013. The other thing that might stray me from my goal is that I'm going to Japan for a year in a few years to do a few things.

I really don't know about the FT-86. It's going to be the same length as the SW20's so I'm hoping it weighs less than 2,700lbs. I don't think Toyota should make an Elise/Exige type car but maybe something like an FR or MR platform with a Yamaha built, direct and port fuel injected 230-250hp four cylinder n/a (to beat class rivals like the S2000 and Civic Si) and a 330hp V6 n/a (can't be getting beat by modern sedans either). The MR-S could have been the perfect example if it had more power. More aggressive gearing in the tranny would be nice seeing as how Toyota likes to use super long gears. Simple, light and w/ a potent engine. Hopefully, a potent chassis/suspension setup as well but I think that's hoping for too much from Toyota. Maybe Akio Toyoda will change that aspect, though *crosses fingers*

It's much more refined than the sw20 and it's being built with balance and lightweightedness as the sole topic. Supposedly the boxer4 engine 2.0L should be somewhere in the 230-250hp and it helps keep the car more balance, hopefully. I'm sure it will be an FR layout to keep the ae86 tradition. Should be seeing the production models in 2011 or 2012.

It definitely does look like it will be more refined than the SW20. It will be about as short as the AE86 and SW20 so with no listed weights from Toyota, I can only hope that it will be very light. I've been reading some worrisome articles that state that the power may be anywhere from 160-200hp which I don't think will be enough to make it dominate it's class. It would be nice to at least compete on even ground with the S2000, the Solstice GXP and other cars in the same class/hp levels.

Very true. But if it's a boxer4 2.0L, then there's higher hopes. I heard the most worrisome news is that Toyota want to lean more on fuel efficiency rather than push more power out of it, but even so, I think 220hp would be modest as long as they can limit it's weight to a little over 2400 lbs.

Yea, I heard the same thing about Toyota wanting to be more Toyota *barf* I think they've got enough eco friendly cars and need to take their balls back from the tree huggers and bean counters. I'm glad Akio Toyoda took over last year but it's too bad he has to deal with the mess that the previous CEO left him with.

This thread kinda went off tangent haha.

It's just a rumor. There's a good chance that they might not do that. Besides rule of a thumb about engine tuning is that having the right amount of air/fuel mix with the right spark creates a very efficient machine, meaning it can be fuel efficient with good power.

This thread didn't go off tangent, yoda. As long as we are still talking about cars, its all within the topic.

I think there's a good chance they might, at least, make a weeny version due to this since the car has been pushed back three years: http://www.greencarreports.com/blog/104 ... s-for-2016

With direct injection being used now, we can run engines with higher compression ratios, more aggressive timing, burn the air/fuel mixture better and not have to worry about knock and such now. Hopefully, in a few years, the technology will have gotten better that the cars will make good power and still be fuel efficient.

Yeah. That's what I'm betting on. The technology is advancing so fast. It might be the reason why they push it back 2 years to release the FT-86.

I used to have a Trueno that I loved. I sold it to a coworker for a way too cheap price. I wonder what the auto insurance quotes are like now?

In a couple years I'm thinking of getting either a 2010 Mercedes c300 sport or a 2009 Audi a4 2.0T. But I'm going to test them first. If I don't like it, I will stick with the Bmw and supercharge it.

^ Even though the BMW is a 2000 model, I think the BMW would out-handle either car. :)

Well I'm rating them on handling, power, style and comfort. With comfort being the least because I'm use to racing and semi racing suspenions.

Oo, guess I'll write up a rare post from me, I've got a pretty bad car addiction, here's my list:
'83 FJ40 LandCruiser, first vehicle I bought, still have it. Largely stock except for Alcoa MT rims & 33x9.5 MT's, Rancho 9000 shocks, greasable shackles w/poly bushings.
'79 FJ55 LandCruiser, gave/sold as it was a project I realized I would never get to.
'87 Corolla FX16, freebie, eventually rust got too bad, gone now, did the best at auto-x with it! Had TRD springs, HKS cat back, cone filter.
'88 Corolla FX16 GT-S, 20v swap, wrecked parked in front of my house, still have it as parts. It was never meant to be, it had horrible Intrax springs, scary kluged on Momo steering wheel.
'87 Corolla FX16 GT-S, current daily driver, TRD springs taken from first FX, Koni sport one way adjustable shocks, Advan TE37 rims, ARP wheel studs, AE92 front brake caliper swap w/larger EBC slotted rotors, 20V BT flywheel, Exedy sport clutch, k&N cone filter, 20V tubular headers, MagnaFlow & 5Zigen mufflers, Momo steering wheel recued from previous FX & correctly mounted.
'85 Corolla AE86 GT-S, auto crosser. Stance full coilovers, full poly bushing, rear sway removed, Exedy HyperSingle clutch/flywheel, KAAZ 1.5 SuperQ LSD, Momo steering wheel
'87 Corolla FX16, rally crosser, mystery cone filter, ARP head studs, 20V BT flywheel, Exedy sport clutch, 20V tubular header, single MagnaFlow muffler, KAAZ 1.5 LSD, rear Whiteline adjustable sway bar, Lassa Rally1 tires, A/C completely removed.
'69 Datsun 510 coupe, project & future auto crosser, need serious work, bought from original owner!
