[Movie Discussion] Shinobi
While I was in Japan recently, I saw the poster of new movie Shinobi.

I can't read Japanese. Does anyone have any more info on the movie? Thanks.

the trailer looked pretty cool. i like these types of movies. when i was in japan a few months ago, i saw a preview for a movie called, "ashurajo". i couldn't find the homepage, but there was an imdb link:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0459744/
it looked like it was about samurais, ninjas and the supernatural.

Basilisk! or not...
haha...i cant believe it too..this is a movie adaption of the MANGA Basilisk_~Kouga_Ninpou_Chou...which also has a Anime series out.
Both Manga and Anime is awesome...but if you are too fixated on the manga,
you might not like the movie ..AS IT LACKS...big boobs, pretty violent fighting scenes...
from the movie trailer..the main actor playing is too short and skinny to play Gennosuke...
but dont get me wrong...from the website and the trailer i dont think it is cheesy movie...just watch it without comparing it to the manga...

you did? i didn't understand what the heck was going on in that movie. it seemed like the director was trying to tell 8 different stories at once. i thought it was way too confusing, and i didn't think the fight scenes were done well either.wachi wrote:but the CG is going to be insanely amazing... let's hope so. I thought the plot was weak, but I liked the fight scenes and the CG, beside that, it wasn't that great of a movie. Anything is better than DEVILMAN.jholic wrote:you did? i didn't understand what the heck was going on in that movie. it seemed like the director was trying to tell 8 different stories at once. i thought it was way too confusing, and i didn't think the fight scenes were done well either.
[Movie] SHINOBI
More details are at http://shinobi-movie.com/index2.html, which is due out on Sep 17, 2005 in theatres.
This movie is an adaptation of Yamada Fuutarou's " Basilisk - Kouga Ninpou-chou". Interestingly, there is an anime "Basilisk" currently being broadcasted in Japan.
I am eager to see this one but it is not released in N.A. yet. So, if anyone has seen it, let me know what you think.
I also hope that there is some DVD rip in the future if not SCREENER copy.

@Rice, man they took out okoi ? she was awesome.
In case anyone is interested:
The soundtrack that you hear towards the end of the trailer is "Heaven" by Ayumi Hamasaki and will be released in Japan on The 14th September 2005.
The Movie "Shinobi: Heart under Blade" will be released on the 17th September 2005 in cinemas in Japan.
If this is the case then it might take a couple of months for the DVD to be released then maybe another couple for a fansub. Thats my estimate but I dont know how fast these releases are in Japan and who is going to sub it if at all. I acn't wait to twatch this.

I don't think it's part of the Shinobi series....mt877 wrote:So is this the 5th in the live action series?
4 other live action Shinobi movies have been released on DVD. Maybe this one will be released on DVD as well.
1st: Shinobi - The Law of Shinobi
2nd: Shinobi - Runaway
3rd: Shinobi - Hidden Techniques
4th: Shinobi - A Way Out
Shinobi is it's own movie and it takes place in the era of shinobis (would that be during the Endo Period??? i don't know....never had any learning of Japanese history besides the little facts given here and there in mangas and anime).......meanwhile the Shinobi series are more modern paced.

It was alright, I wasn't really a fan of the Basalisk anime either... I saw this because my friends were going to see it, and the posters looked intriguing, and I didn't even know it was based off basalisk, heh. But I must say the story is rather lacking. I suppose I should just accept it's a fighting movie, but personally I thought the somewhat recent chinese movie Hero did a much better job in this genre.
And yes, both the main characters use their eye powers.
I'm not saying it was a bad movie, the CG is well done, the fight scenes are rather well choreographed, but for some reason it just didn't grab me.

Haii..
Yes.. That right. I think the actor "Erika Sawaraji " as Aya in 1 Litre of Tears acting in the Shinobi Hearts Under Blade. That awaresome.
He play as the Hotorobi in the Shinobi.
Is really the Shinobi is the live action of Basilisk?

I saw this movie in the theatre a few weeks ago, yay~~!!
I really liked it. Of course it did have the cheesy ninja movie plot, and was kinda predictable, but it was greatly enjoyable. The action scenes were awesome! And I really liked Nakama Yukie's performance. I like Odagiri Joe, but I thought he could have done better in this movie, but he was still good. Anyways, over all it was a really fun movie to watch. And I think it was worth the 1500yen it costs to see a movie over here in Japan, lol. It'll probably be even more worth it for you guys who don't have to pay that much to see it, hehe. I was also really excited that I understood the whole movie in Japanese~ yay~
I also actually went to the Iga ninja village during my summer vacation. So that made it even more fun. Well, the city of Iga is suposed to be where the Iga ninja's (Nakama Yukie's ninja clan in the movie) used to live, but now its a huge tourist trap, hehe. It was cool though.
And now I'm just babbling. Anyways, its a good movie : )

nya~ if you're going to get the dvd, the pre-orders are available. (i'm still a little miffed that you can get just bonus disc a or bonus disc b or both... at least you have the "both" option.. but at limited edition)
the trailer was absolutely beautiful and i can't wait til it's out on dvd, though i also think it's funny that most of the lines they clipped for the trailer also sound so cliche.
(for the anxious, the dvd release is apparently also english-subtitled)
thanks for sharing the link. for some reason, my brain skipped out on the fact that every new movie gets their own website.

kdwluverZ ..no harm done, just ick me a bit.
Anyway, same thing I said over the jdrama clubbox thread, Shinobi english sub is out, but for the 1CD rip version, once the .srt sub is uploaded, I'll split it so I'll match the one on my clubbox. I'll upload the single DVDrip as well.
Never mind, no need to split, subs for 2CDs uploaded.

Finally got it to play on my Philips. I quite enjoyed it. I dare say it is much better than Azumi 2. It didn't have quite the hyperkinetic action work of Azumi 1, but the story was much more coherent, simple, & decently told, and ended well. The CG and effects for the most part were good and worked well in the movie. Some nice scenics & cinematography too. Fighting pretty decently done. Not epic, but nicely edited to make good use of what they had. Wisely, the character Oboro is not known for fancy sword or martial fighting skill so they didn't have to try to make Yukie fighting look convincing. I think Azumi 2 really suffered from this. The original Azumi with Kitamura at the helm, at least the action & camerawork was done creatively to make it look better. Shinobi's story is clear, simple, easy to understand. Found myself choking up a bit with the heroic sacrifice at the very end (not his), like I often do when they do that kind of thing. Get's my thumbs up. (Note: I could barely take Casshern, the messages were just too heavy handed and ponderous, fights decent, but not enough. Devilman I thought was a disaster.)
