There are a bunch of resources listed in the Links of Interest Thread.
Asking for recommendations here isn't a bad idea either though. There are a lot of forum members knowledgable in Japanese music and entertainment here....
BTW, if you want to purchase CDs, by clicking on the little advertisement above and buying through yesasia.com, D-addicts gets a small portion to defray operating costs.

Lately I've been into:
J-Rock
UVERworld (no album out yet, just singles- but they're awesome)
Orange Range
Asian Kung Fu Generation
Stance Punks
J-Pop
Utada Hikaru
Do as Infinity
M-Flo
Chemistry
Mikuni Shimokawa
There are a lot of bittorent sites out there that have their albums like http://mullemeck.serveftp.org/jps_beta/index.php . Also theres a really good site that has songs from anime - which are usually really good : http://gendou.com/
Also I recommend Yesasia because you know that the Cds aren't bootleg like some of the ones that you find on EBAY. ^___^ PM me if you want more suggestions>

I love Jrock! But with all music, there are good and bad bands/artists. Here are my top recommendations:
L'Arc~en~Ciel (my favorite band, not just in Jrock)
Luna Sea
Siam Shade
Pierrot
Janne Da Arc
Sads
X Japan
Porno Graffitti
The Brilliant Green
B'z (They are classic! They've been around since the 80's, which is amazing! But many Jrock fans do not know of them or listen to them, since many non-Japanese Jrock fans tend to be fangirls, and only like bands/artists who are pretty boys, and B'z are all men in their 40's, so they do not care for them.....It's so sad too, because they are very talented!)
Glay
Rumania Montevideo (She's not very well known....)
I do not like a lot of Jpop, but I do like some of Aya Ueto's music and Judy And Mary.

JRock Reccomendation thread
I am a big fan of rock music in general as I perform my own with a band and as a solo artist.
But anyways, I have become a big big fan of JRock.
I would like new artists to listen to...so here are the ones I listen to currently:
Nicotine
Asian Kung Fu Generation
The Back Horn
Orange Range
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Dragon Ash
Glay
Malice Mizer
I have enjoyed all the artists I've listened to so far...I would love to have more to listen to

My recommendations:
X Japan

Siam Shade

D'espairsRay
Shiina Ringo
HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR
Hm..and since you like Orange Range, I'd suggest ZZ. And a relatively new band that I think has a lot of potential is UVERworld. Their second single is coming out in a couple of weeks, but I really like what I've heard from them so far. I also really like the TRAX; they do both Korean and Japanese rock. They're also relatively new as they've only had four singles out, but they're pretty good.

Oh yes yes yes, I've heard of UVERworld. I have their first single. And I really enjoy it. Their sound seems unique in the way they mix different sounds. I look forward to their second singleacid_android wrote:My recommendations:

Welcome to Japanese Entertainment (or should i say Asian entertainment in general), where if you can sing, you can act! And if you can act, you can sing!x_XJules wrote:ahhh so many reccommendations.. i don't know where to start.
are there any drama actors in any (good) bands?

It depends on what your definition of "good bands" are and what music genre you're interested in, but here are a few off the top of my head that have had good success in both music and drama:
Fukuyama Masaharu (solo)
Matsu Takako (solo)
Shibasaki Kou (solo)
Ueto Aya (solo)
Oshio Manabu (LIV)
Fujiki Naohito (solo)
Nakayama Miho (solo)
Sakai Noriko (solo)
uhh.... lots of idols....
Virtually all the Johny's groups (if you like that sort of thing), but the more successful actors of the bunch are:
Nagase Tomoya (TOKIO)
Domoto Tsuyoshi (Kinki Kids)
Kimura Takuya, Nakai Masahiro, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (SMAP)
Matsumoto Jun, Ninomiya Kazunari (Arashi)
Okada Junichi (V6)
Yamashita Tomohisa (NEWS...I think)
Good god, I could go on...... @_@
EDIT: Also thought I should add a couple "classic" guys:
Tamaki Koji (Anzen Chitai, solo)
Terao Akira (The Savege, solo)

Ah...well since this is now a general music thread....I am really enjoying m-flo...I have listened to two of their CDs and really enjoy them.
I also enjoy Shiina Ringo quite a bit, it is sad that she is no longer a solo artist.
However her material with Tokyo Jihen is also very very good
I like Utada Hikaru, but mostly the music she does in japanese only...
Ketsumeishi is also an artist I enjoy.

You should check out Yuna Ito. She sings one of the songs in the movie NANA. Sort of a shameless promotion because I eat dinner at her parents' Japanese restaurant in Hawaii every Friday night.
Also, if you have any questions about Japanese enka music, I'm the one to ask. It's my favorite genre of Japanese music.

Trying not to overwhelm you with selections, I'll give you a very condense choice of great first time listening j music:
Utada Hikaru for a more r&b, mature mellow sound (Recommend)
Ayumi Hamasaki for the more poppy sound, the earlier you go into her music the less poppy is it, but I recommend the early stuff
The Pillows for a more American indie like rock sound. Great stuff. (Recommended)
Do As Infinity is like a combination of Utada Hikaru and The Pillows (Really Recommended)
X Japan for a more progressive/ pop metal sound
Morning Musume for the too cute for you own good sound (wouldn't recommend but interesting to experience)

I have a small and slowly growing selection of jdorama/anime songs, so there isn't much to post.
Okay, I'm going to try this, using sendmefile (never used them - or any other for that matter). tested it and it seems to work ok, keeps the files for 14 days. - Though it wouldn't work in firefox (had to use ie.. though that's a small price to pay considering the rapidshare alternative)
Yui - Life
Pretty good song - 4th(I think) ending theme to the anime Bleach
UVERworld - D-tecnolife
Awesome Aweeesome song - 2nd opening to the Bleach anime
Takashi Sorimachi - Poison
Brings back memories of watching GTO (^_^) - Opening theme
Gackt - Farewell
From his new album Diabolos (only one I have)
and incased that site doesn't work.. [ultrashare]
Chihiro Onitsuka - Borderline
Nice song, taken from the Casshern OST (live action)
The back horn - REquim
Also from the Casshern OST .. I'd like to hear more songs from them but I can't seem to find a website or owt.
Hyde - Masquerade
Last one from the Casshern OST - It's a really good OST (;^_^)
Susumu Hirasawa - Yume no Shima Shinen Kouen
Paranoia agent is a weird anime and this song is awesome as the opening theme (always made me want to rewind and play the opening again)
The Pillows - Ride On Shooting Star
From the FLCL OST .. I think the pillows are pretty well known.

just thought about something...if you guys don't know what band/artist you're looking for I suggest downloading Oricon and this kind of stuff. this is pretty cool coz there's a lot of different bands and different genre. you can choose what you like. I luv Oricon coz I always find some new interesting band I didn't know before
I will share music!
I have a large collection of JRock.
This is how I will be sending them.
I will send them via Gmail.
Since Gmail does not limit file sizes and such in e-mails.
So here's how it works, I will be posting a list of Bands I have music of, you will request one song or more. ( I will limit this at 3 per person per 5 days) Just so I do not get overworked.
Now I can only send you these if your e-mail provider will allow e-mails of this size. Some of my mp3s are 320kbps (super high quality) so they will be large files.
G-mail I know for sure allows it, so if you need a gmail account I have plenty of invites so PM me for one if you want.
Now the list of J-Artists I have:
Shiina Ringo (Entire Discography)
Utada Hikaru (Entire Discography)
Orange Range (Entire Discography, including their new album NATURAL)
The Back Horn (Large amount)
L'Arc~en~ciel (Entire Discography)
Malice Mizer (Entire Discography)
Asian Kung-Fu Generation (Pretty much everything from Kunkei-Five.M and on)
Koda Kumi (Her recent Best-First Things single collection)
M-Flo (Astromantic and Beat Space Nine)
Dragon Ash (Rio de Emoticon)
Stance Punks (Howling Idol and Self-titled album)
Tokyo Jihen (Kyoiku album)
This is all I can remember for now.

G-mail I know for sure allows it, so if you need a gmail account I have plenty of invites so PM me for one if you want.
Now the list of J-Artists I have:
Shiina Ringo (Entire Discography)
Utada Hikaru (Entire Discography)
Orange Range (Entire Discography, including their new album NATURAL)
The Back Horn (Large amount)
L'Arc~en~ciel (Entire Discography)
Malice Mizer (Entire Discography)
Asian Kung-Fu Generation (Pretty much everything from Kunkei-Five.M and on)
Koda Kumi (Her recent Best-First Things single collection)
M-Flo (Astromantic and Beat Space Nine)
Dragon Ash (Rio de Emoticon)
Stance Punks (Howling Idol and Self-titled album)
Tokyo Jihen (Kyoiku album)
This is all I can remember for now.

Trondog...instead of sending them by e-mail, why don't you try using 1 of those free web hosting sites:
http://www.ultrashare.net/ (30 mb)
http://www.megaupload.com/ (250mb)
http://freespace.filefront.com/1 (not sure)
http://rapidshare.de/ (50mb)
I haven't used any of those to upload, but I've dl'ed from them. There's some others like yousendit or sendmefile also. I think you'd save more time this way plus not everybody has a large capacity e-mail account.

Jrock/Pop/Rap
Arashi (Your fun loving boy band)
ALICE NINE (awesome guitar) ::tackles Tora::
Pierrot (always good. I'd start with music from their Private Enemy CD)
L`Arc~en~Ciel (A good rock group that's been around for a long time. ^^)
Orang Range (Rap/Rock, good band!)
Rip Slyme (Rap/rockblues-ish? ^^' heh. I love the theme song they did for Gantz)
YesAsia.com - They have some higher prices, but you'll be able to see what all there is in Jrock/Pop/Rap, etc.

Ooo I love that song, though I prefer the short version used in the gantz anime (I don't like raplila_ai wrote:Oh, yeah! I love that Rip Slyme song for Gantz. It's got a funky addictive beat! I had this song a long time ago, way back when i was into jpop. Maybe it's still in my cd stash somewhereLeechKing wrote:Hi...
Does anybody know how can i get the Brilliant Green "Angel Song" from? Its from Manatsu No Merry Christmas Theme Song. The Torrent for this song apparently have no seeders anymore. Thanks

I recommend.. Hitomi Shimatani (she was the best before the release of zipzapzipangu), Rhymester, Utada, Anri Kumaki, Move, and Melody. I'm not so much into the new bands and such.
Hitomi Yaida's Melody song rocked my ears for quite awhile too.. most of her songs are okay, but this one had me addicted.
Thanks crossvii!!! Finally...crossvii wrote:I had this song a long time ago, way back when i was into jpop. Maybe it's still in my cd stash somewhereLeechKing wrote:Hi...

I'm surprised that not a lot of people mentioned Dir en grey, because they're my favorite band. They're not for everyone though I guess. ^^"
My recommendations are:
Dir en grey
L'arc~en~Ciel
Pierrot
Penicillin
Buck Tick
X Japan
hide
Luna Sea
Nightmare
Rentrer en Soi
.....I'm sure there are others, but I'm drawing a blank right now. I've recently started liking Mika Nakashima for Jpop music. I'm still not very fond of Jpop though.
