Um, I like that keyboard. I assume it comes with the obscenly-large mouse as well, or is that an add-on?
The pictures are obviously photoshopped. The cops would mostly likely disaprove of such skirts if they saw one (students would not be able to wear one either) so it's obvious that such things would not be worn, especially indoors like the grocery store. Sorry, but, unfortunatley, not true.
And...how would that be sexism (I hope people talk about this) unless the girl was forced to do it? And, still, that's not sexism, but an entirely different matter. Dimpy clothing's not sexism.

They never were popular to begin with, as they don't exist! Those are photoshopped pictures.

Apparently the pictures come from porn magazines.

According to that site, the skirts are not photoshopped, they are real, but are not see through. The panties/asses are drawn onto the skirt. I'm sure it is hard to tell with just some pictures though.
If these skirts are a fad in Japan, it is probably just a small undeground kind of thing-kind of like nevada-tan. I promise that the average japanese girl will not wear these things(whether they are really see through or not)-kind of like bondage gear in the US.
And I seriously have no idea why some idiots here think these things are sexist? No one is forcing people to wear these things. In fact it is more sexist to say that people shouldn't be wearing because you are defining how females are and are not allowed to dress. Just because you are conservative/jealous/offended, doesn't mean others are, and the people who wear these things definitely don't seem to be (if it is real).

it's fake, no one i know in japan knows this, has ever seen it, and i have spent a ton of time there, and trust me, id notice a translucent skirt. there is no fad. why cant people accept that?kotaeshiranaihito wrote:According to that site, the skirts are not photoshopped, they are real, but are not see through. Sorry nadesico, but some of us have lives and can't keep up with all the hoaxes around.
And nicochanr3, in all fairness, I did write IF, which means I never said it exists. I simply said that IF it exists, then it is not mainstream.
There are a lot of weird things in japan that would be completely out of the ordinary in the USA, don't get mad if people are a little naive.

I know I shouldn't answer to this, but I am sorry, I DO have a life and yet I am aware of hoaxes, you can keep your unfriendly comments for you. Do you know me? I don't think so.If you want to believe in rubbish, please do so.kotaeshiranaihito wrote:Sorry nadesico, but some of us have lives and can't keep up with all the hoaxes around.

I am not coming to this thread anymore anyway.
END OF DISCUSSION
no that WAS real. The Economist is not in the habit of reporting on "fake" stories.Schala wrote:Yeah...just like they actually have vending machines for used panties in Japan too, right?
USED PANTIES
Police in Japan are trying to curb an unsavoury trade. In early September, three business men stocked around 90 vending machines in outer Tokyo with used underwear "guaranteed to have been worn by a Japanese schoolgirl." Each garment sells for about $29.
After searching the rule books, the police have finally charged the three entrepreneurs with violating the Antique Dealings Law, which stipulates that dealers need a license. Used panties as antiques? The police say that some of the underwear was bought from second hand dealers. The trio may also be charged with swindling, if it can be shown that the panties on sale had not really been worn by female students.

what is so hard about this.

Panty machines are pretty rare nowadays, though. There are still some around, but they're pretty hard to find and are generally in places where lots of doinks hang out. One of doinkies' LJ friends in Japan searched high and low for a panty vending machine one night, just to take a picture of one, and it took a while before she could find one. They may have been more common back in 1993 when that article was written though.2triky wrote:no that WAS real. Agreed...that's why I emphasized the PAST TENSE in my post, as you aptly pointed out....when I went I didn't see any...but then I wasn't really looking for 'em either.doink-chan wrote:Panty machines are pretty rare nowadays, though. Used underwear clearance sale!
February 19th, 2004 by Lee
A while a go I reported that the Tokyo metropolitan government was going to implement a ban on the selling of used underwear. Well, from today’s reports, it seems that the bill will be submitted next Wednesday.
After its introduction, those caught selling underwear previously worn by anybody under 18 could be fined up to 500,000 yen (2,500 pound). And those found buying such products could get hit with a slightly reduced (but still hefty) fine of 300,000 yen (1,500 pound). Even those merely providing space for any such transaction will be similarly punished.
Whilst I knew this day would eventually come, it’s with a heavy heart that I am now forced to bow out of this most lucrative of markets. So from today it’s sale time - everything must go. As stocks become low, I will sell to the highest bidder. And up until the end I will stick by my tried and trusted policy.
No stain means no gain. So the more soiled, the more you must toil. Bid away!

You can photoshop things to make them look absolutely real, get a decent graphic artist, done.
Aside from that, what kind of woman would wear those anyway? Frankly, given the problems with gropers on Japanese public transports, only a complete retard would wear those. It's like a "please sexually harass me!" sign.

Yep. they passed a law about those things last year. No more new or used underwear machines are around (except for in the red light areas) and the shops have been closed up.Schala wrote:Yeah...just like they actually have vending machines for used panties in Japan too, right?
Girls did it as a quick fix for money, and I don't know why people bought them.
Japan has been trying to clean up it's "image" with crackdowns on the sex industry, especially in Shinjuku. Of course, this stuff is still around, they've just migrated from the bigger areas.
As for the skirts, yea, those are fake. Although, sometimes, they'll actually make up and coming idols wear completely see-through outfits and go through town doing normal things to incite some sort of reaction from every day folks. Things like that are popular for comedy shows such as LonHa and MechaIke.
I'm writing this as a spoiler because it may gross out some people...2triky wrote:February 19th, 2004 by Lee
