i'd recommend hoshi no kinka.

hoshi no kinka 1 was the best imo, but the 2nd was also great. didn't see the 3rd one, mainly because the actors changed, no more noriko sakai :glare:

itoshi kimi e is quite a tearjerker as well. :-)

I just happened to have that 3rd one. Haven't seen the first two though :-( Mari Hoshino can't compare to Noriko Sakai, but the drama isn't too bad. I learned quite a deal of Japanese sign language :P

Also looking for japanese historical dramas. Except of dramas mentioned by Father_V I've found here "Ooku - Hana no Ran"

are there any more taiga dramas?

Hm. If you're looking for parent/child relationships, Otousan is probably that only one that I can think of. But the children are all quite old, in their 20s.
It's about a father who is getting remarried and how his four daughters adjust to it. They also sort out their own lives as they realise how important it is to him to get remarried. It's quite funny and moving, I cried almost every episode.

Not sure if I’m getting cold-hearted… I actually didn’t cry much while watching [Seikachu]….

I recommend [Algernon ni Hanataba o]. It’s pretty weepy for me to see how Haru’s IQ level just go down, down and down. Santamaria was good in that drama.

And I agree that [Mukodono] is good. Even though it’s funny, I cried at almost every episode (more for Mukodono 2) because it’s touching.

Thank you.
A few months ago I saw a drama that fits perfectly into your qualifications. Shiawase no Shippo.
http://www.tbs.co.jp/shippo

Maybe you can read the synopsis there to see if I am correct. It involves parent-child relationship AND has sickness in it.
I only got to see the last 5 or 6 episodes of this but it is the only drama that 'really' brought tears to my eyes. And Mizuno-san is beautiful.

I can send you my raws if you want to watch this.

I'm also a tearjerker-drama lover here. The one that made me cried the most was Itoshi Kimi e. No one has beated that one so far for me (Not even 1 Litre :lol) It's not about death so maybe some people find it less touching compared to Sekaichu or Kamisama, but the romance was awesome.

Bu tif you're more interested in children/family tearjerker, how about Ai Kurushii? I didn't really like it but it's about family with sick mother and so on. Maybe it can be one of your taste. Or Grave of The Fireflies? (children, poverty, war... what else can you ask? :P)

Btw I think the last episode of Joou no Kyositsu was very touching.

yeah somehow i like sad dramas too, and i tear at some pts in most japanese dramas as they are really touching... so that makes it hard for me to recommend
but i heard of this 1 which involves family and children... hikari to tomoni.
dealing with autistic children, shld b real sad, n touching.

there was this amazing 6 episode drama by Shinji Takeda and Kanno Miho.. Kanno was mute here and it followed their love story (first 2 eps), their marriage (next 2 eps) and finally the problems they encountered with their child (last 2 eps). it's a tearjerker alright! XD

According to ashley @ jdorama.com (thanks~ :D), its title can be loosely translated to "Your Hands are Whispering".. but I've never been able to find that drama, not even in jdorama's database..

If serious is ok with you, as well as non-love story tearjerkers, then I highly recommend shiroi kyoto. you can download it from chinese bittorrent sites. :thumleft: it was one of the best jdramas of all time (for me anyway hehe :P )!

Just finished the first episode of Densha Otoko, it's one of the best jdramas that I've seen (so far @ least) that doesn't have anything to do with high schoolers :P It's about this 22-23 year old Otaku. This drama is very recommended!!!!!

Can anybody recommend any school romance dramas thats currently being seeded from episode 1? Ive searched through this thread and most of the ones recommended arent being seeded anymore at all or the early episodes arent being seeded anymore. Or if possible, can someone reseed some of the older episodes of some good ones such as Gokusen?

Thanks

The most we can do here is to point you towards titles. It'll be up to you to check if they have seeds.... Please use the Seeding and Upload Requests/b] forum to request seeds (make sure you read the Stickies first though).

That being said, I'm not sure what you mean by high school romance... ^_^;
Gokusen is high school, but definitely not romance....
Are you really looking for a romance or just anything with a high school setting?

One drama that definitely has seeds is Sekai no chuushin de, Ai wo sakebu, a (tragic) high school romance, and the batch torrent for it here is part of the Permanent Seeding Project.

By high school romance... I mean just that. A romance drama in a high school setting. Sorry for the confusion, I thought Gokusen was romance. Do you (or anybody else) have any more recommendations for a high school romance thats currenely seeding? I'll try the ones you suggested too.

Any criteria? Do you require complete series? If not, Nobuta no Produce and Hana Yori Dango are both high school romance and they will complete soon. These are all series that you can still get pretty easily from ep 1. Not sure if 1 Litre can truly qualify as a High School romance tho the series is mostly about her high school "years" and there is romance ... but it's also a great drama.

High school romances.... hmm... this was actually harder than I thought it would be...
Off the top of my head:
Strawberry on the Shortcake
H2
Minami-kun no koibito < ehhhhhh.... sort of... at least both characters are in HS...

Kamisama mou sukoshi dake < HS girl, older man
Koukou Kyoushi < HS girl, older man
Majo no Jouken / Forbidden Love < HS boy, older woman

anybody got anything else?

Apartment-setting dramas?

Post by Marikina » Dec 16th, '05, 08:32

I need reccommendations for series that are like "Long Vacation", "Kimi wa Petto", and "Last Christmas", where two people with conflicting personalities are forced to live and interact within (more or less) the same apartment.

Highschool romance... well, I think these dramas would be qualified as hs romances:

- Sekai no Chuushin
- Hakusen Nagashi
- Itazura na Kiss (not on D-addicts tracker and doesn't have English subs, but if you could read Chinese, you could find the batch at btchina).

Well, it's harder than I thought. I've seen lots of recent dramas taking place in hs, but they don't normally deal entirely with romance.

Post by hoannie » Dec 19th, '05, 10:24

i love love ..... LOVE hana yori dango :D
now that its finished would anybody have suggestions on shows thats similar to hana yori dango. something that contains lost of humor, and where the characters relationships are just soooo cute.

I hear it started with a kiss is good but i cant seem to find any torrents from the beginning with end subs. direct downloads would be too slow.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I think you should put this in the Recommended Japanese Dramas thread, since you're asking for a recommendation.

In my opinion, I'd definitely choose "One Litre of Tears"/"Ichi Ritoru no Namida". It's one drama that nobody should miss. It changed my view about life. The drama is touching, meaningful and inspiring. You won't regret watching it. Warning though, it might be very sad.

You could also take a look at the "D-Addicts's Ranking for 2005 JDramas" thread, just ignore the dramas from the previous seasons 2005.

Nr 1, 2 and 4 are from this season.

I too would recommend 1 litre of tears/ichi ritoru no namida. It's just good. The finale just came out like 20 minutes ago on D-addicts so expect kioku to release the final subs on Monday. If you know Chinese, the subs for them usually come out tomorrow.

You could try Long Vacation. It's one of my all-time favourites and it's really funny.

Tiger and Dragon is a great comedy series.

I think you can appreciate it on a number of levels. First you get some good actors and actresses who are just pleasant to watch.

Then you can just enjoy the story which usually involves some major turn-around.

And finally if you know some Rakugo (traditional Edo period comedy) you can really appreciate how the episodes are constructed. And I guess the timeless aspect of human nature.

To be fair the show does try to explain the original Rakugo stories, but I find that they run out of time to do it proper justice. Too much is happening in the show.

what to watch next!

Post by classyangel » Dec 27th, '05, 17:26

Hey, I've just finished Hana Yori Dango and Nobuta wo Produce and I loved them both. I don't know what I should watch next. Something of similar themes perhaps but if there are any good (not seriously dramatic love triangles) series that you recommend, please shout out! :D

Have you watched Ichi rittoru no namida (1 Litres of tears) yet? this series has just finished, ep 1-4 can be found right here at d-addicts and the rest at jpopsuki
not love triangle or something but great series.

Can someone recommend me some 'certified tear jerker' dramas that are relatively new? I've already seen 'Ichi Rittoru no Namida' and 'Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu', so if you guys know of any better ones (although I'm highly doubting it at the moment :D), please post them! Thanks~!
