[Movie Discussion] Dororo

Post by EMTQueen » Mar 15th, '06, 05:05

Attention all Kou Shibasaki and Satoshi Tsumabuki fans: Our favorite couple from Orange Days have reunited for a movie called Dororo, based on the manga. Shibasaki plays the title character, a girl disguised as a boy, and Tsumabuki is Hyakkimarui, a boy born without 48 body parts due to a pact between his father and a demon.

Filming has finished in New Zealand (Shibasaki-san said it only lasted 38 days). Shibasaki's character was made older than she is in the manga in order to better explore the relationship between Dororo and Hyakkimaru.

I'm so excited for this movie! It will be released in 2007.

Dororo

Post by hisa » Mar 25th, '06, 02:39

Anyone have any idea about that new movie that I think is coming out next year called Dororo?
I went on the off page from tsumabuki satoshi's off website and all I know is that shibasaki kou and tsuma satoshi are going to be paired up again!! ahh...how I loved them in orange days...

check it out:
http://www.dororo.jp/

if anyone can read japanese may you please tell me what it says in the synopsis?

I'm really eager to see satoshi and kou as leads in another drama...even though this is a movie...but better than nothing I guess...

merging with the existing thread...
please try and search to see if an existing thread already exists before posting a new thread...(the original thread pretty much answers your question anyways)
thanks

*is a little annoyed with people ignoring threads I make and then making an new thread of the exact same thing*

Anyway....

Of course, like with their American counterparts, the Japanese celebrity rags have been swirling with rumors again about the real-life relationship between Shibasaki and Tsumabuki. This happened before when they were starrring in Orange Days. As far as I know, they are only good friends that like to go drinking together. While I am a Shibasaki/Tsumabuki "shipper," so to speak, I'd rather to have the facts than to believe wild speculation.

meh... last I heard, Tsumabuki and Yuuka were an item....
...but I don't really keep up with the latest gossip, so I have no clue if that's still true...

Who is Yuuka? I've tried Googling her, but as you can imagine, I got quite a number of hits and I don't really know who to choose.

yuka (yuuka, whatever) is primarily a gravure model/tv host
she's done a little acting as well (surprise, surprise :roll)
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Yuka

most gravure models tend to irritate me, but I actually like her...

Kou finally running around with a sword, should be interesting. Maybe... she's even going to wear a woman's kimono in it just for once *GASP!* It's something you don't see her do often..

But I hate having to wait until 2007...

Nope, no chick kimono for Kou, I don't think. She's disguised as a boy half the movie....

Aye, I've seen them too. There aren't really many around, which is quite interesting when you compare that with other actresses. The only ones I have are from a movie (which I still have to get... next month).

Yeah, the fact that Shibasaki doesn't really fall into line with other Japanese female entertainers is what makes up a lot of her appeal. She rides and customizes motorbikes and has more of a "bite your nuts off if you piss her off" exterior rather than the meek and ultra-feminine of others. She's a chick who can hold her own and I like that.

Aye, just take her "I'm pissed off" look... scary... I stilll wish she would have played Azumi... oioioi, that would have been one hell of a scary and kickass assassin...

I like Shibasaki's new shorter hairstyle. She cut her hair for the role of Dororo.

Not that her long hair was bad, but she looks more mature now with the shorter hair.

it's time to revive this thread! it's coming to US.. woohoo!
official website: http://www.dororo.jp/
"DORORO" US distribution picked up by Universal
SANSPO reports that action fantasy "DORORO", based on a classic manga by legendary Osamu Tezuka and directed by Akihiko Shiota, will be distributed in the U.S. through Universal Pictures, possibly sometime during this year.

The film was marketed at Cannes and AFM last year, and has been sold to approx. 20 countries, including Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil and others.

Michael Joe, Executive Vice President of Universal Pictures, states, "recent renaissance of J-movies is significant, and we are paying much attention to it. As for this film, the original creator Tezuka is crecognized as one of the greatest creator of the 20th century in the world, so this film is getting much interest from many countries." (I translated it back from the Japanese quote, so it is probably not exactly what he said.)

"DORORO" was filmed in New Zealand, following the formula of recent large-scale action fantasies, such as "Lord of the Rings" and "The Last Samurai". The action is chariographed by Siu-Tung Ching of "HERO" and "House of Flying Daggers".

In addition, co-stars Satoshi Tsumabuki and Kou Shiabsaki are the hottest couple in Japan right now, and they are currently traveling together throughout Japan for the promotion. The film is opening on January 27 in Japan.

The DVD was just released on Friday, it usually takes a week before it's available for DL.

I'll be subbing this movie as soon as it gets released in FSC or FSS. I checked for info, and apparently there won't be ENG sub in the DVD.

Those two are definitely my favorite Japanese couple on screen :thumright:

You can also download DDL off Bittersweet-bun's livejournal.
You'll have to join files with HJsplit, but a lot faster download speed.

And I'm having second thoughts about subbing this movie because I found out Universal Pictures would be distributing this movie in US, so some trackers may not allow this movie. I'm a little too busy with my current sub projects to work on a movie that will be banned on most trackers.

I'll keep you guys updated.

So basically it's up on clubbox and in parts, but not in torrent form yet?
Either way....thanks a lot! Been looking forward to this for a while...

About the subs....how long does it usually take to do them?

You guys are walking a fine line in the No Movies Policy here.
Technically, you haven't been posting a direct download link per se, but I would honestly prefer if you would give them out through PM upon request only. ESPECIALLY since we already know that the MPAA has its legal claws in this one.

Oh yay! Thank you for subbing this movie in advance! The movie sounds really interesting. :lol This is really out of my genre for a Japanese movie but I want to watch it. :D It has Shibasaki Kou. :-) She's an awesome actress.

English sub done! Get it from kloofy or FSC.

After watching both rips, I HIGHLY recommend LaUzu rip. It's a lot better than CHuMo.

Dear god, this movie is nuts. And I say again, Kou would have been the best choice for Azumi. I absolutely love the character Dororo, just... I'd never want to encounter her. She'd either steal my stuff or kick me in the nuts. Or both.

Now I'm curious what's on the other 3 DVDs in this little special ed box.
