"doink" has several meanings, actually. It can be a sound effect for bumping into something or someone, or it can refer to a big jerk (for example: "Sakurako from Hana Yori Dango is a doink."). It can also be just a random word. Since doink has several meanings, it's probably best to transliterate it phonetically and just choose some random hanzi to spell out the sound of "doink".

@PoiPoi, 我聽見瑞典是美麗的!! 我真好想參觀一下
*很抱歉...my simplified Chinese is horrendous. I can read it (barely passable but its similarity to the traditional characters helps) but I can't write the characters. I'm glad that there are a lot of words that are still the same, though. I really should take Chinese courses with Simplified Chinese, though~
@LYF, 你也是那裡人啊﹖

Hi,
if someone of you have some time can you check the Chinese sentences in this thread please? http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopi ... htm#466278
I am trying to figure out the subs for the next episode but my Chinese is not good enough to translate all sentences. Thanks for your help. Btw. do anyone of you know some Chinese slang? I have a drama which is playing in the Mafia evironment and sometimes they use some weird words and then I don't get the meaning at all. Like "Ma zi" = "Girlfriend" etc.
So does someone already watched the new TW drama? Tokyo Juliet? How is it? Really bad, bad, ok, good, very good, a must see?

haha, it really is a lot of work, especiallly if you are not fluent in both, Chinese or English.lilswtangel wrote:that's understandable~ she has to translate from Chinese to English...that's a lot of work as it is.LYF wrote: he does not feel like using chinese
There are a lot of us Asians here who are not stranded in America. However I love the word ABC. And I am only a EBC (European born Chinese). That sounds far too stupid.
By the way, does anyone here have time to sub a TW Drama starring Rainie Yang?

“這件恨搭” 有什麼意思﹖謝謝幫忙
Some of us are currently translating a TW-drama and want to to translate it as accurate as possible. “這件恨搭” a woman is buying clothes and the shop assistant says “這件恨搭” but we don't get the meaning in this context. normally “搭” has sth to do with woods etc. Or is this word refering to a cape or sth? Thanks for your help.
in this context it means that the piece of clothing matches very well. u could say something like "this piece matches very well"gixo wrote:

"這件" - this...as in "this jacket" or "this shirt" or "this pair of pants"...etc
"恨" - hate...as in "i hate you" or "i hate this" or "she hates him"...etc.
"搭" - build/put up/hang....or to take...as in "hang the picture" or "take the train
sorry I couldn't be of much help. I tried my hardest.

hey furelise. yeah, actually i haven't been too active in this thread for a while as well. you're right, i did change my avatar to mike. it's from one of the previews of his new drama "Let's Get Married" or "Marry Me". it should be coming out in July. the previews are very nice, but i don't really have a sense of what the drama will be like. so i guess i'll have to wait and see. btw, here are a couple of screenshotsfrom the previews that i posted in another thread, if anyone's interested. and yes, i'm a member of AiRen now. thanks.furelise wrote:hey habukie! yeah havent been to this thread in a while hey isn't that mike? is that from his new drama "we're gettin married"? when is that comin out? n have u been made a mod? congrats!

yea, Mike really looks good in this drama. I think the Japanese drama originally is starring Tomoya Nagase. Also a really handsome guy. Btw. Germany already has 2 goalsfurelise wrote:

Any recommendations for TW-Drama? My aunt is visiting and maybe I can ask her to get me a drama.
yeah i heard the original jdrama was really popular..gixo wrote:yea, Mike really looks good in this drama. I think the Japanese drama originally is starring Tomoya Nagase. Also a really handsome guy. Btw. Germany already has 2 goalsfurelise wrote:

woah 2 goals already, that was fast
recommendations for tw dramas? i think i need some myself.. have u watched tokyo juliet? i only watched ep 1 and it was ok but kinda slow..
yeah, and tomoya nagase is really handsome in that drama. Hmmm... I think I'll watch the Japanese version in the next couple of days. Haven't watched it yet 'cause I have to concentrate so hard on the Japanese and therefor I enjoyed watching Mandarin-Dramas more.furelise wrote: yeah i heard the original jdrama was really popular..

Haven't watched Tokyo Juliet yet. Currently dl. But the story seems to be interesting. Haha, actually all Dramas based on Manga are rather interesting. But I am asking about older TW-dramas which can be bought in the stores already and can't be dl here on D-A. Ah, I know, maybe I should ask her to get "7th grade" since I don't know where to get that one. *Happy*
3goals in the end.
^^the talk around the Let's Get Married thread was that it was based on Mukodono (starring Tomoya Nagase). however, after reading the character descriptions at AF, it doesn't seem to be that similar. it has been a while since i've watched it, but still... the only similarities i can see are he's a famous star who wants to get married. other than that, it seems more serious than Mukodono and the other characters aren't that familiar.
Right! It is 很 not 恨.Ailin wrote:I think it's 很 (very, really) not 恨 (hate).
And I agree "this piece matches very well" or "this piece matches really well" both work well.
I am Tawainese. My English is not good. Kdrama is my favoriate. I understand some Korean, have also some korean friends. Thoughout my Korean friends , I could watch the best quality of korean drama.

i have some terms that i need help with. if you could help with any of it, thanks in advance!
1. 超糗 - said when a person was upset at someone else
2. 肥波 - a person was called this when he wanted to renege on a bet.
3. "This young man is so恰. That’s not right. How can a boy be 恰?"
2 & 3 I don't know.
Alougth I am a native speaker of Chinese, I don't understand 2 & 3.
Please write the whole dialogues, so I might guess what it means.

woah tough ones, i only know for sure 1. 超糗 means very embarassing.
as for 2. 肥波 , havent heard of this. someone said it could mean fat lady but then it would be written as "肥婆 " right?
3. 恰 (qia), this one got me puzzled too.
sorry if i wasn't much help, hopefully someone proficient in tw slang can help shed light on these?
^^ thanks for all the help.
i've got the dialogue for 3. 恰.
這個小哥好"恰"喔.
不對啊. 男生怎麽會"恰"呢?
doing the dialogue for 2. 肥波 will take way too long, especially since i'm on a computer the doesn't type chinese (i have to copy/paste ). i was really wondering if it was the name of a famous person/character. but i guess not. i'll try to upload the clip today when it's used in the episode. @fu22bu22: the person in the episode that was called 肥波 is a male...do you think it could still mean fat lady in that instance? thanks!
thanks again, everyone! your help is very much appreciated.
edit: ok, here's a link to the clip. he uses the 肥波 term twice.

are they talking Chinese or Taiwanese here? I think that it's a Taiwanese word they are using here. qia" from "qia bebe". not sure about the charcater though but it would kind of fit. "qia bebe" means bitchy and it's only used for girls.
couldnt dl that clip from megaupload so i'm guessing at the context here.habukie wrote:^^well, the whole sentences is in mandarin, but maybe they just used that one word in taiwanese? it's actually in those quotations marks like that in the subtitles. i didn't add those in. gixo, you may be right. it does sound like it could fit. in that scene Xiao Ting is roughing up this guy...
Is xiao ting pretending to be a boy when she is roughing up this guy? cuz if she is, i think that would fit into the context. like gixo mentioned, there is a taiwanese word "qia" that refers to a bitchy, loud woman. and since u mentioned the word is in quotation marks it sounds even mroe plausible.
haha, are you kidding? I think I'll ask for some more help in the next days. I translated my part roughly. Now I am going through all the parts with a ???? These parts need so much more time than the rest.habukie wrote:^^hey gixo! that's a tough one for me. hope someone can figure it out. i watched episode 2 over the weekend. there's a lot of slang in there. hope you were able to get it all.
Your friend is correct. 古惑仔is a term originating from Hong Kong which means gangsters or punks. It's equivalent to 流氓, as people in Taiwan call them. These people are considered as 混混 - 不良少年 - 壞孩子 - 逃家少年. I think it became more commonly used after the mid to late 1990's popular Hong Kong movie series "Young and Dangerous" by Director Andrew Lau, starring Ekin Cheng and Jordan Chan.gixo wrote:Haha, also want to thank you for your help since habukie and I are working at the same project right now. Sorry to bother you guys again but how would you translate 台灣古惑仔? Taiwan's ancient sons of PERPLEX??? Someone said I should use Taiwan Punk Gang...

雞排 - i've seen it written in restaurants as chicken steak or chicken fillet
通知大吉 - i'd have to see context, but 通知 = notify and 大吉 = character in the show; he's one of the flunkies that is always with xiong tian. the other one is named da li.
死於非命 - to die a violent death
Y17 - you'd have to have watched episode 1 pretty closely to remember...it's the plan that they used on the wife; i translated Y 17 計劃 as "Y17 plan"
長命百歲 萬壽無? 鋏福如東海 壽比南山 - i think they're all cheng yu wishing for long life, happiness, etc... normally on birthdays...
ok, so i looked them all up. here's what my dictionary says:
長命百歲 - May you live a hundred years.
萬壽無? 鋏 - May you attain boundless longevity.
福如東海 - Happiness as immense as the eastern sea.
壽比南山 - May your life be as lofty as the southern mountain ranges.
