Yeah, I heard that too. I think it was something about the guy actor(I forgot his name) calling another actress using -chan and calling her (Sawajiri) using -san. There was an article here about that before. But I think I got the basic idea down.

Hello Everyone!

It's my first post so forbearance please...

I've heard about Erika Sawajiri when I got "Ichi Rittoru no Namida". For me, this drama is the one of the best movie I have ever watched. Here i dont know want to talk about this drama but only about Erika. So she has shown very good talent as a actress. Very natural, very deep character. Her role wasn't unnatural.
Of course i know it's only opinion about her in context of this drama, but i won't change my opinion about her as a actress. For me she is one of the best actress in Japan - by dint of 1 litre of tears.
I will never forget about :

I think if her mother is of french-algerian origin that means her mother's parents maybe were one french and one algerian or it simply means that her mother is french and born in algeria
I know a few french people that were born in african countries like marocco or other ancien colonies, but they have french parents.

On wikipedia they also said that she had quite a "frank" character that doesn't match with her appearance ... but after all that she experienced in her family it might be normal that she doesn't quite have a happy-go-lucky personality

EDIT: From what is written in the newspaper article, that motao kindly posted, her mother is called Lila (note that her last name is written with a different kanji than Erikas

). She was born in Algeria and has grown up in Montparnasse (a city quarter of Paris). She has come to Japan about 25 years ago. She is not at all of Japanese origin, but has been interested in Japan since she was small.
