Miss Universe 2006 (^_^)
I was wondering if anyone got a chance to watch the Miss Universe Pageant? If you did, were you disappointed with the results? Who would you pick for this year's winner? And what do you think of Kurara Chibana's outfits??? (^_^)

ms japan was my bet
I thought Ms Japan was going to win. It would have been different, I have nothing against Ms Puerto Rico but its kinda redundant if they always win the pageant.
I honestly think Miss Japan should've won.
Her translator totally fucked up her response to the raffled question, and most likely fucked up the question. Pardon the language, but that was the only thing that killed it for her, by discrediting the barbaric men in general and not to mention not answering the question correctly. It disheartens me to think that her loss was her translators fault.

Ouch!! I just watched a bit at the start, didn't watch the aftermath. My friend said she sounded like a very intelligent girl, though.RionZ wrote:I honestly think Miss Japan should've won.

Japan's answer to the final question wasn't what the judges was looking for! I don't understand Japanese, so it could've been the translator's fault for translating the question wrong for Ms. Japan. I think she could've won if she picked a specific event like the bombs dropped on Japan or something. She had a cute smile and that samurai outfit she had at the beginning was kawaii!!

she might have also lost some points for answering that other question in french (leaving her translator with a O_O stare because she is a japanese translator, not a french one)
i thought she was really lovely tho...
i hated her dress tho...all those cut out holes made it look like she was going commando under her dress...and thats just icky
same goes for miss puerto rico tho...her dress was horrendously worse...the top fit her nicely and wouldn't have been so bad if it had stopped before it got to her hips...from the hips down it was god awful. she kept fighting with it around her feet. it looked like she was wearing a necklace pumped with sterroids and decided to pass on an actual dress.

but I have to disagree with your view on her costume. Her outfit was hot! Not something I expected her to wear as her nationality costume.
I wonder what 1st runner up gets....
Well im proud of the new miss universe (well cause im puertorican)because she has brought
hope to my country since were living difficult times here. And actually i did not like the dress much too so y personally tough that Japan was going to win since she had like a spunk to her and her personality.

yup, french...they asked her a question about how she learned to speak french and spanish and she launched into a whole answer in french (i didn't hear any spanish in there tho...but she was speaking like 10000 miles a minute) and her poor translator took a step back and was like "that wasn't japanese, i can't help"lilswtangel wrote:French you say?

Congrats to Puerto Rico but I'm very dissapointed about the outcome. When mostly South American/White women take up most of the top 20 and only 1 asian makes it to the top 10, you know the contest is somewhat biased.
Not to mention Japan's answer was more intelligent than most of the girls' Q&A.
Either way, I don't really get worked up over pageants since it's mainly focused on beauty and not really on the questions.

upset at the results
i agree with everyone that the girls were beautiful, but i think that they picked the wrong girl for miss universe . she is supposed to personify someone that everyone can look up to. the girl that they chose, just looked fake and her beauty just seemed skin deep. plus, apparently she doesnt know how to choose a dress that is both gorgeous and able to walk in, because she kept on falling when she was walking. miss japan should have recieve all the votes. not only was she super kawaii, but she had a brain (hence the five languages that she could speak: spanish, portuguese, something else, english and japanese) wow something that maybe the other candidate lacked. i hated the way that puerto rico had vague answers to her questions. i say retrial!
As a country, I don't know. But as a race, yes. Brook Lee (Miss USA at the time) won it in 1997. She's made up of Korean, Dutch, French, Portuguese, Chinese, and Hawaiian ancestries. There may be others, but I can't recall them off the top of my head at the moment.Kaito5 wrote:Has Asia ever won miss universe? If not, hopefuly they will soon

Re: upset at the results
I really wanted Japan to win, too because she knows four languages (she doesn't know portuguese) and she wants to become a reporter, unlike some other contestants who said that they wanted to become a famous actress. Then again, second place isn't that bad. Plus, she won best custome, which I personally think she deserves it. It was either her or that other women who wore a butterfly custome, which was really breath taking! In all honesty, I wouldn't have watched the show at all if it wasn't for the customes. I thought that was the BEST part out of the entire show.miaangelis wrote:i agree with everyone that the girls were beautiful, but i think that they picked the wrong girl for miss universe . she is supposed to personify someone that everyone can look up to. the girl that they chose, just looked fake and her beauty just seemed skin deep. plus, apparently she doesnt know how to choose a dress that is both gorgeous and able to walk in, because she kept on falling when she was walking. miss japan should have recieve all the votes. not only was she super kawaii, but she had a brain (hence the five languages that she could speak: spanish, portuguese, something else, english and japanese) wow something that maybe the other candidate lacked. i hated the way that puerto rico had vague answers to her questions. i say retrial!

Yep. I'm sick of all these damn south americans who have little to no personalities and are nothing more than products of cosmetic surgery. (yes, brazil is the plastic surgery capital of the world). They all lack substance. But of course, as long as their ribs are hanging out in a 2 piece bikini and can speak spanish that's considered "sexy" to the judges.miaangelis wrote:i agree with everyone that the girls were beautiful, but i think that they picked the wrong girl for miss universe . she is supposed to personify someone that everyone can look up to. the girl that they chose, just looked fake and her beauty just seemed skin deep. plus, apparently she doesnt know how to choose a dress that is both gorgeous and able to walk in, because she kept on falling when she was walking. miss japan should have recieve all the votes. not only was she super kawaii, but she had a brain (hence the five languages that she could speak: spanish, portuguese, something else, english and japanese) wow something that maybe the other candidate lacked. i hated the way that puerto rico had vague answers to her questions. i say retrial!

A friend of mine, from Spain, said "Here we see what Miss Universe's contest cares about a woman... So sad."
I only say... hooray for male chauvinism and sexism.
At the moment I'm ashamed to be male...
Quite honestly, IMO, Suzuki Anne, or Kuriyama Chiaki, or Ueto Aya would beat all those chicks with ease.

Actually, there were several other ladies who wore only a bikini along with other accessories in the national costume. Compared to that, I don't think hers was that bad.usagibun wrote:Puerto Rico isn't south america. I thought that both girls were beautiful but in the end it came to the contestants answers. Although I absolutely loved Japan’s national costume – she looked sort of skanky.

Though, it's kind of "funny" (actually, it's quite sad). If you take Miss Japan's "traditional" costume...
I won't go into details about everything that's wrong with that "armor", that would take far too long (IMO, calling it "armor" is an insult to every armor crafter in history, whether Asian or Western). But just look at it overall. Armor plus katana without companion sword? She's posing as ashigaru, for crying out loud... Sad, really. I certainly hope nobody called it "samurai outfit" or anything else along the line, because... it's not a samurai outfit, certainly not. It's, basically, what a bloody peasant soldier, also known as ashigaru or even cannon-fodder, would use.
But what's even more sad is the fact that she, as Japanese, wears a perversion like this. Sad, really. She obviously lacks ANY national pride and knowledge about history. If some dumbass foreigner would wear something like that, ok, what do you expect? But a Japanese? Dear god... If I was her, I'd be ashamed, really. It makes her look like a cheap slut. I might refer to her as "nighthawk" from now on.
Another friend of mine, who's deeply into the Heian period, called her: "Bad Hair Day Sushi Slut Of Doom". I must say... it's fitting.
