It even made me sad that I will never speak Korean or probably ever even visit Seoul (I am an American living in the San Francisco Bay Area). I have never felt that way before about a television show. Did anyone else feel this way, or am I the only freak? The world is so big, and we only get one little corner of it.
I feel exactly the same.

Frankly this is the ONLY Korean drama I am really impressed, of course it is mainly due to Lee Da Hae's outstanding performance.

I don't know Lee Da Hae before watching My Girl, now I am going to try Green Rose (an older drama of her), and see if she acts as great as in My Girl.

I am not a Korean, but I believe Korean society is a bit more conservative than western countries. :D

A question about the background music of My Girl

If you have watched the ending episode, there are two scenes where the Tennis Player meeting Lee Da Hae in a cafe... during their conversation, there is a piano solo music piece playing at the background

I know the music piece follows the melody of a song in the official sound track (the song by Kyo), however does anyone know where I can find exactly the piano solo piece played in the drama?

Thanks.

what I find funny is, two years later the mobile phones or nothing have advanced at all lol...

I love Lee Dong Wook's acting, he plays such a serious guy, and then
he plays all the funny imaginations people have, I love the one where the aunties imagine he's begging Yu Rin for money in the bar, his voice is so funny, also when Yu Rin imagines them being brother and sister like Jin Gyo and his sister, that's cute too!
such a good drama, made me cry and laugh too many times!

I did get a bit tired of the number of times people missed each other by a split second though....so frustrating with
the lift in the 63 building! grrr!

wow! my eyes and head hurt already reading 42 pages of this thread :blink :lol

Wanna say... I  My Girl! It's my first K-drama and got hooked on it too. Actually, I wasn't really into it at first but still continued watching it. I think on the 3rd or 4th episode, I started to like it and enjoyed the characters/flow of the story... and the rest is like your eyes glued watching the tv screen as if the outside world stopped and you just wanna focus on what you're watching  ...(I watched this series the 2nd time already and I still smile, laugh and get teary-eyed :P )
^^ oh I love that scene!

There are just so many favorite scenes that I like and mostly it's GC/YR scenes. I think I like every scene of them together. Yeah, I'm a GC/YR shipper! I love LDW/LDH's chemistry on this series. There are funny scenes from other characters too. I love YR's friend and her brother. :lol

You guys think they'll do a... MY GIRL 2 ??? :fear:

hi mrzali, I tried to translate a chinese translation of the dungeun song into english. so it may not be accurate. anyway, here u go:

a~a~a~ sure song!
Do you think of me?
Sure, think of me? Sure
I love you, you love me
Sure, sure, sure, do you like me?
Sure, love me? Sure
I love you, you love me
Sure, sure, sure
Even when you're down, sure
No matter when, sure
Love me, love me
Sometimes it may be troubling, sometimes it may be tiresome
Just think of me who's smiling next to you
Sometimes you may be in pain, sometimes you may be lonely
Just think of me who's always by your side.

My Girl director's cut?

Post by honeybeanie » Aug 17th, '06, 02:34

Does My Girl have a director's cut? I have seen some NG scenes which are not in the dvd set i bought. Am wondering now cos Full House has a director's cut where there are additional scenes. Does all kdrama have 2 versions? I am not sure cos this is only my second kdrama. I am located in Singapore. (if the distributer of the drama is of relevance). Wouldn't want to miss out on any scenes :-(

I never thought he looked female in the movie, but he reminds me of a bishounen anime character in this drama.
Hai! That's what every Filipino audience thinks. He looks more like an Anime character than a girl.

LisainCalifornia wrote:Hello all,
I am new here to d-addicts, and also to K-dramas. I had never watched one until a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon an episode of My Girl--and from the first one I was hooked. I started from the beginning and watched a few episodes the first night and a few the next. Once the weekend came I became absolutely obsessed! Freakishly addicted! On Saturday I watched until I thought my eyes would cross and my head hurt. Finally at 1:45 a.m. (on episode 15) I decided I MUST stop and sleep. I watched the end the next day, and then spent the rest of the day in a restless stupor.

The reason this is so shocking is that I don't typically watch much television (except the occasional HBO drama like Six Feet Under). I go online a lot, and like to read a great deal, but I have never been "taken hostage" by a show like I was with My Girl. The music has invaded my head too--I hear "Never Say Goodbye" in my head all day now. ...
Hi there,
Don't worry, I don't think you're the only one who's gone mad matching that show. I had to chuckle reading your post as I am not much of a tv myself but had recently been taken by storm by K dramas. It's crazy, I started watching K dramas 3 weeks ago and jst finished my 3 K drama (My Girl) few days ago. The problem is that I get so lost in the story that that I can watch them till 5-6am in the morning....I can finish a 16-20 episode drama in 1-3 days. It's crazy. I'm glad I didn't know K drama earlier else my life might have fallen apart and I wouldn't have been the successful consultant I am today...hahaha...anyway, I am very smitten by the lead actors in all my 3 dramas so far (probably why i'm so addicted) but have to force myself to stop watching for awhile so that I can come back to my sense and live a normal life...(like sleep and eat)...hahaha...ahhh, K drama, what an amazing world!

1st K-drama ever watch, and i'll admit, it's pretty good, up to par with the best stuff i've seen. i normally dislike k drama because i've saw glimps of it on tv and i hated it. just about 3 days ago i ran out of things to watch so i download my girl (because i've saw an old jap anime with the same title and it was really good). i like it for the following reason

1) hot cast, the cast is dang hot in this show, and i think they kindda know it. the 2nd guy (kindda gay looking), alot of people espeically women says he's hot, the 1st time i see him in the 1st scene, i'm sort of confuse, cuzz he doesn't look hot to me, kindda girly looking, and i was cracking up pretty bad in his fighting scene.

2) good flow, very little lag, and that's great

3) it's light, very light hearted romatic comedy, very enjoyable, leaves u with good memeoreis but not the heavy memories that u don't wanna think about

4) quite good acting. the character seems very real, and u can see by comparing them to the ending behind the scene, the role kindda portrait what they are in their natural daily life (or maybe they acted on that part too lol)

5) FUN, it's very witty and funny.

just a few comments on the cast:
1) the main girl, she's very pretty n cute. has a good heart, and she's funny... basically the perfect girlfriend/wife that u can ever HOPE to get. basically she's very lovable. i really like this character, but i'm a guy so it might be bias :) she has the round face but nice body, musta put alot of work into it, because even though ti's a good combination it's very hard to achieve. plus she has a cute voice, it's very cute and soothing, espeically when she says that catch phrase "you'll be bless" :)
2) the main guy, this guy is the perfect guy, again, but compare to the girl he's probably an 8 vs the girl who's 10. he looks very good in the begining, but as the series go on, the girl began to look prettier while he doesn't look as good anymore. not sure if it's the make up or because i get to examine more on their looks.
3) the 2nd main guy (girly guy). like i said before, i don't find him good looking or atractive, but i'm a guy so i have no say in that. I dislike his character alot for many reason: a) he's rich and he go messing around, that type of human being deserves no respect. b) even when u put all that aside, he pull some dirty stuff when it comes to the main girl, that's just plain dirty. in love, u can loose a fight, but u can't play dirty, that's my theory.
4) the 2nd main girl, not much to talk about here, she's not pretty (to some she might be, but she looks bitchy to me and that's a turn off). her tennis playing is pathetic, gosh they shouldda change the script and made her something else, like a famouse singer or something, cuzz crap, i look at her swings and i almost fell of my chair laughing. she's also kindda underhanded, i would NOT like a girl like that. u can be a hater but do it in a clean mannaer, pulling strings behind people's back is dirty.
5) the grandpa. i really love to smack him in the face. man, doesn't he learn anything about his daughter when he disown her? and he even tries to disown his grandson, it's like freaking history repeating and slapping in his face and he still dont' see it. plus the girl lied to save his life. if i was standing in front of him, i would tell him that he wouldn't be living till today if it wasn't for her. so suck it up and let her back in.
6) the dad, wow this dude is a scum bag, i don't know why she loves him so much. he even looks the part (can't really hate the actor cuzz hey really pull of the scum bag role).

other than that, i'm pretty satisfy with the story, 1 tihng i do notice, korean singers look alto better than their actors, that's really wierd. i check out posters of some of the popular series and i can confirm, their singers are hotter.

some stuff that annoy me
1) the bum on the street pull out his cell and i'm like "holy ****, that cell is better than mine"
2) the main guy driving that range rover that look like the cheap version of the US range rover lol
3) i was never able to figure out what da hell the 2nd main guy drove, looked like a mazda miata, but i don't think it was, maybe a lotus or some other car. still it annoys me

I agree with much of what you have said about My Girl. I think that Yoo Rin is so cute and perfect too--and I am a girl. She has a light about her that is so lively. The only time in the whole series that I did NOT love her character was when she took the main guy to get acupuncture (he was afraid of needles) and left him there alone. I felt so sorry for him! But other than that, she was just so special--the combination of how her character was written and the beautiful/pure/cute/spunky look of the actress made her perfect.

As far as Lee Jun Ki---yes, he did turn a little weird at the end. He was underhanded about trying to get to Yoo Rin when he should have helped his friend get her and bowed out gracefully. But in the beginning and middle of the series when he was "protecting her" and telling her he would take care of her and went out to have fun together (at the arcade especially!) he was just so appealing.

I am glad I am not the only one! :thumright: So far I have not found another K-drama I like as much, so I am not so addicted anymore. I watched the entire series of full house, which was enjoyable, but I was not compelled to stay up all night watching it. I also did not LOVE the actors the way I did in My Girl. I liked the girl in Full House, but not so much the guy. The writing and storytelling was not as good, either. The music and direction was much better in My Girl, too

May I ask what other Korean Dramas you have watched and liked? I am watching My Lovely Sam Soon right now. It is cute, but I am not that into it yet. I am episode 6.

Take care,
Lisa

I have to say I totally agree with you. These were the main reasons why I enjoyed this show so much. It's lighthearted, sometimes even sassy  , but always enjoyable.
Towards the end it becomes a bit gloomy, but it's never draggy, I think to add a more romantic mark to the ensemble.

I agree as well! In some parts of My Girl, she reminded me of Charmaine (a BIT, not fully) though I hate to admit it cuz Charmaine has a totally annoying voice and I dont like her at all! Lee Da Hae is wayyyyyyy hotter. But heres Charmaine...

Only like a tiny bit look alike, yeah?

Take care,
Lisa
Only thing that comes close to K-Drama in terms of addiction is Heroine. :alcoholic: They don't call us addicts for nothing. :goggle: Anyway, I'm impressed by Lee Da Hae's body of work here: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Lee_Da_Hae I'm really curious about the series calle Heaven's Fate/ Lotus Flower Fairy [MBC, 2004] which is about Shamanism in Korean Society. I'm wondering if there is a Clubbox member hosting this??

I just finished watching My girl yesterday, after like 2 days of intensive watching the show. I really love this show... it's really funny. Weird I just finished watching Goong either, and it's the same 4 people love... and again my favourite chara Jun Ki (what a wonder), and in Goong Yung Hoon didn't get a girl.. that's sad sometimes.... Seeing my two favourite chara cry so many times... T.T
But still a great dorama, the funniest one after Full House! ^.^ And Jun Ki is soooooooooooooooo pretty... *________*

hi theedqueen, just read some of the reviews on My Girl....really great stuff. Love how you express yourself so freely! :P :thumleft:

Hi! Newbie here ... watch K Drama from time to time -- lots are shown here in Malaysia but time constraint doesn't permit me to watch everything - I work, have 2 lil kids - a school-going daughter who's 7 and a boisterous 4-yr-old boy!.

Stumbled upon this series by accident (was flipping thru the channels actually and saw Yoo-Riin trying to hold up the plane with GC smart enough to realise her tricks (Ep. 1) :D -- got hooked and the rest is history!) It's still being shown here - though quite heavily edited -- GAH!

Will try to post more of my opinions later - I'm at work now and hafta attend to my class -- yeah, I'm a school teacher :O :D

Okay, we're up to Episode 8 (but here it's shown as Ep. 11 - for every 1-hour slot, we only get to see 45 minutes of the drama, 15 minutes for adverts .. so the episodes don't tally with the original .. but I've got the DVD :-) ) But I'm bumped -- the TV station cut my fave scenes in the whole series! (The part when GC and YR finally get to go to Building 63 / 63 City - the building is real, right ?). How could they ? I really feel like complaining to those ppl. :x Viewers here who haven't seen the part really missed out! It's the most romantic-funny part of the movie ..

okay, so now y'all know my fave scenes  As for the cast - let's just say that it's amazing that LDH's real good at being both funny and serious. She's talented, I must say. And great chemistry with LDW who I thought was wooden / stiff at first but grew on me with each viewing ... :thumleft:

Yeah! Write to TV8 to complain and then what? Have them repeat the episode? Don't bother!

Boy - that's rather negative, huh ?

Not that I'd really complain and expect 'em to repeat the episode ... I just thought that other viewers who might have no idea about it deserve to know that they've been .. errmm, "cheated (?)" 8)

Just had a REAL BAD day at work  .. so need to let it out ... okay, let's dissect my fave scenes in the series - which of course that visit to 63 City. :-)

YR's so cute when she told that story about her coin box - and when she said "My father was too much (re for taking the money)" -- hilarious! :D Okay, now at least we know why she's "obsessed" (heh!) with that building ... :P

And her Transformer story -- geez, she's so convincing, no wonder GC looked like he believed her - and his expression there ... poor guy! He fell for it, right ? And when she told him about making a wish while holding one's breath in the elevator .. the way he rolled his eyes -- too funny! :lol (And he believed her too - poor guy, choking for his breath and had to endure her laugh at the same time!) :D

The Zebra Crossing is another -- love, love, love that 'lil part when GC stumbled backward when YR yelled "Copycat!" :D :lol

Don't wanna get started on the 1,2,3,4,5 scene - let's just say that I went "Whoa!" at that ... okay, okay, you guys might feel that it's nothing out-of ordinary etc ... but remember, this gal here don't watch much TV, let alone K-drama .. so there! :lol :P :salut:

i heard that My Girl will be shown again in the philippines....

i'm really hooked to this drama....
best one i've seen yet...
so.... so.... complete..
there's the very convincing talents of the main cast, the consistency of the plot,
the twists that prevents you to sleep wondering what would happen next...
it's just that dling is so slow,
but i'm a patient person, so yeah, still waiting...

ugh!!!.... i'm really addicted here...

(as ya'll can see in my avatar and signiture...)

Of all these type of dramas Full house, My name is kim Sam Soon, Goong , I felt Joo yoorin in My Girl had the best personality she was so funny, endearing, crafty and caring. I think her personality was really endearing and captured my heart wah she is just my type!.

Egg alcohol or egg whiskey

Post by MaNang » Sep 30th, '06, 09:03

I'm rewatching My Girl right now (and it's still now old, I'm still smiling and laughing at everything). In episode 10, Gong Chan makes egg whiskey or egg alcohol for her (aww, so sweet!). It reminds me of a hot toddy and egg nog. From what I observed, the recipe calls for 1 egg yolk, 2 tablespoons or teaspoons? of sugar, 1 or 2 shots of whiskey warmed and stirred into the egg and sugar. Can anybody verify or tell me a more exact recipe? When Gong Chan adds the cup of whiskey, it looks like more than just a couple of shots of whiskey, maybe there's water too?

It looks yummy; if I have a sweetie, I'll make it for him too.

shminda - Thanks so much for explaining what NGs mean...it was just driving me nuts! :-D

Mahsuri1284 - you're right to say the viewers are being short changed by the TV station. There are so many other sweet and touching scenes that were cut out that just detracts from the whole emotional feel of the storyline. I would recommend that a real fan goes out and buys the DVD...so you can rewatch the show over and over! :-D

And yes, LDW is one of those guys that just grows on you!

Yep - the TV station here cut out YR and GC's visit to Building 63 in Ep. 8 (to accomodate the the advertisments, I presume :glare: :P :glare: ) which I think is important in explaining part of the storylines - why YR loved the building so much, the "hold-one'-breath-to-make-a-wish-come-true" scene between GC & JW later on and in Ep 15 when YR led the tourists to step on the white lines when crossing the road :P

Oh, forgot to mention one thing -- okay, I might be a 'lil off here :lol :roll :lol but GC's struts -- esp in that zebra crossing scene ... reminds me of Matthew Macfadyen's in that movie "Pride & Prejudice" (which also starred Keira Knightley) that made some lady fans swooned -- *g* :D :P :D

Question ... can somebody explain how Mdm Bae (Kok-sun) is related to the chairman ?
Okay, she's Gong-chan's aunt (as she told YR when YR first went to their house) but she keeps referring to the chairman as "In-law" (at least that's the subs in English) ... she's not the chairman's daughter, then ? Any explanation ? :D :D

I'd like to know where I can buy this and other dramas from Korea that Yesasia has released. They don't ship outside of the US on their own site.
Thanks.

mahsuri1284 - Mdm Bae (Kok-sun) is a sister of Gong-chan's mum. Thus, she addresses the chairman, Gong-chan's paternal grandfather as "in-law".

Oooohhh - thanks! :-) :-) How come she's living at the chairman's house ? Is it common for Koreans to look after someone who's a close but not blood relative like in this case ? Just curious ... :-)
