1.What is the most important factor that makes you watch a new / unknown drama? Genre
I tend to be attracted to the comedies, especially the really goofy but inspirational ones about different work/activities and friendships. Usually shy away from romances and sad stories and the like, unless it was recommended. So a little of C as well.

The most important factor for me is (which is the one I voted for):
d. Genre (love story, martial arts, etc)
However these three factors bare strong consideration:
j. It has English subtitle
k. The number of episodes (prefer short dramas, 20 episodes or less)
b. Plot synopsis - however in the genre I prefer usually i will enjoy the plot as well

Many times I find a new drama by checking what other dramas a actor/actress I notice in a drama I'm watching was in, or catch notice of new ones because of the cast, then I check out the plot, if it sounds good and has subs I'll down load it, if not I'll keep an eye on it. (This because I fail miserably at learning languages). But for a large number of dramas I've seen the plot is what catches my eye, and if I find new actors I like, I then will looks to see what else they have done. Rather a just a circle of plot and actors, genre isn't as important as I like most things, but romantic comedies probably rate close to the top.

For me, the answer is definitely: a) Actors/Actresses
I might be a ilttle superficial when it comes to watching dramas, but I have just found that I can't bear to sit through a full drama with absolutely no attractive actors/actresses, even if the plot is decent. If there is eye candy and the drama sucks, for some reason, it is still bearable.

And to a lesser extent, Genre (love story, martial arts, etc).
Explanation: I mostly rely on D-Addicts and Soompi when I choose dramas to watch- I visit its thread, read its synopsis, and read everything that everyone has to say, all the pros and cons. When a number of people seem to like it passionately, I then download it, provided that it has English subs. I like drama with lots of unforseen twists and turns (but NOT drama which consists of the leading lady crying her eyes out and wailing 99% of the time), but I also download the occasional popular romantic comedy to balance it all out. I don't really care about the actors and actresses, as long they can actually act.

B Plot synopsis first and foremost
A Actors in it, got a few favourites, I'll watch anything they do, no matter how bad (yes, Love Complex, I mean you)
D Genre - if it's historical/taiga, I'm there, if it sounds different, I like it.
H Reviews of others - if it sounds interesting, I'll give it a go.
I use these same criteria for things I won't watch: nothing where teenage students drive the storyline (it's okay if they are in it, just not the main characters, unless they have serious issues or are dying, then they are okay...). Nothing with Ueto Aya who I want to slap, sorry if I got her name wrong but I just loathe her. No apologies for loathing her though. Nothing where everyone raves about a pretty boy/s, I can't stand a guy to be prettier than I am.....
I'm female, d, but you could guess that from my comments above!

first, the title has to catch my eyes, then I read about the plot a little, then English subs....but if the plot is really good, then I watch it raw and hoping somebody will sub it later....genre; depends on my mood at the moment.... actor/actress; don't really care much about it....and ofcourse the setting and costumes are important too, especially if it's an historical story ....

3 most important things I look for in a K/J drama, ranked in order:
1. Actors/Actresses: I hate to sound superficial (I'm 25) but there must be some eye candy in order for me to thoroughly enjoy a drama. It also helps if the main leads have good chemistry together.
2. Plot synopsis: Without an engaging story I doubt I will be able to finish the whole series.
3. Friends/Family Recommendations
Age group: 19-25
Gender: Female

a. Actors / Actresses ... since I just started watching dorama recently so I try to pick the one that have someone who I know of.
b. Plot synopsis ... This is pretty important too, If the story sound boring I sometimes just not watch it
d. Genre (love story, martial arts, etc) ... I prefer more of a drama, or comady Gerne. Or the School life type.
h. Reviews of others ... mainly to see how popular the dorama is.
j. It has English subtitle ... Very Important, cuz my Japanese knowledge is somewhat below 20%
Age - 20 F

Hmmm..this is a tough one.
I guess you can a/ Actors/Actresses for me. Well, sometimes that's not entirely true though. Sometimes I just want to see it because of the title.
e. Posters are also an important factor for me. Just looking at what their doing and seeing if it's a samurai drama or a modern drama.
b. Genre is pretty important for me too, I guess. I'm not really into the martial arts dramas with swords and things like that. I'm into more modern dramas that deal with love, family or something of the sort.
c. Friends / Family recommendations is why I started watching dramas. My friend of Japan recommended I watch Densha Otoko so I went here and have been hooked ever since.

mmm so many people voted actor/actress the most -o-;;;;;;;;
for me
b. plot synopsis, most important determines wither i find a drama interesting enough to watch
a. actors/actress though if i see a new drama a actor/actress is in that i like, i'll look into it but i wont be interested in watching it unless the plot cached my interest ( ex i like yamapi but i don’t wana see dragon zakura because it sounds pretty boring)
d. Genre i like quirky off beat dramas and stay away form super sappy love stories and super sad tearjerkers
h. Reviews of others. i usually fist hear about a drama if it gets alota of buzz about it
age

What is the most important factor that makes you watch a new / unknown drama?
a. Actors / Actresses was what I voted for. If one of my favorite actors or actresses is a major character, I'll definitely watch it. Then I usually end up loving the drama for a completely different actor/actress and the love keeps spreading.
b. Plot synopsis is also really important, but I tend to be hesitant to download something just because it sounds good. But if it sounds good and has an actor or actress I like (they can be only a minor character if plot sounds really good), it's a for sure thing.
j. It has English subtitle for anything except Japanese. My Japanese is good enough to watch those raw.
k. The number of episodes (prefer short dramas, 20 episodes or less). If it's too long I'll shy away from it since my attention span tends to lack
m. As long as it is seeded and can be downloaded. I won't begin to watch something I can't finish.

I usually go by actors and actresses. If I've seen them in a drama I previously viewed and thought they were interesting characters and good actors, then I will definately give their next drama a chance. Reading the plot and finding out the genre would be my second response because of course, I want to know what I'm going to be watching so I get a general idea of the dorama.

i. Theme songs / ending songs / OST watch sapuri, because the opening song is by KAT-TUN and I like the ending by ayaka

a. Actors / Actresses : If any of my favorites are starring in it, I'll definitely dive into it right away Though it might not turn out to be as good, I'll still love it anyway
b. Plot synopsis : I have a habit of checking out the sypnosis before deciding whether it's a worthwhile drama to watch...
c. Friends / Family recommendations : Their recommendations are usually very convincing and tempting, so... hehehe
d. Genre (love story, martial arts, etc) : I am a huge fan of comedy + romance dramas!
h. Reviews of others : I like reading any other kind of reviews to give me a clearer picture of a particular drama, it definitely helps!

Usually, I can tell if I'll like the characters/story based on the plot synopsis. I'll look at the reviews if I liked the plot synopsis, but I'll never look at a review without knowing/liking the plot. If the lead actor/actress is a horrible actor then I probably won't watch the show, but otherwise, I don't pay attention to who is starring in it. The rest of it isn't really that important to me.

Let's see, I will do this by percentage of interest. What is the most important factor that makes you watch a new / unknown drama?
Actors / Actresses 50%
-If the series has actors I like, I'll definitely want to watch it.
Plot synopsis 15%
Friends / Family / Other Reviews & Recommendations 10%
-I'll tune in just to see what people are raving about.
Genre (love story, martial arts, etc) 15%
Posters / Trailer 5%
Theme songs / ending songs / OST 5%
-Music is pretty darn important. If it has good music I will want to watch it. I'll stop watching if it turns out bad though.
The number of episodes doesn't make a difference.
-If I like it I will want the series to have more episodes!
As long as it is seeded and can be downloaded
-Doesn't matter too much as we can always beg in the seed req forum.
-If it doesn't have English subtitles, I won't touch it. Unless I happen to see it playing on TV, only then will I try to watch it.

I just download the first episode of all of the new Dramas of the season. I briefly look through each one and determine which few look the most interesting and watch the first episode. Those that interest me I continue to watch, those that dont I discontinue watching. Whether I find it interesting is no one particular thing, it is just whether or not the show 'catches' me and makes me want to keep watching. I would choose b. plot, but then again I like koisuru nichiyoubi newtype and that has a totally crap plot.
I must say I am kind of dissapointed by the number of a. actor and actresses responses. Mainly because a particular actor doesnt mean a show is any good. I think watching a crap show just because of a particular actor is retarded. Which is to say, I cant understand fanboy/fangirl attitude. Actors get idolized way too much. They are just people. It is not like they emit special actor radiation that can make a crap show good. Not trying to be offensive or anything, that is just how I feel since I dont understand why people get so attatched to particular actors.

I used to just go by reccomendations by my friends, then it went to jdorama.com looking at the top 50 dramas and dling the ones with eng subs soft/hard. now i just dl and hope to get subs.. if i dont get subs i usually watch the raw and try to understand the plot and dialogue. if its not interesting and no one subs it it gets deleted. i also like watching love story type dramas more so of the 20-sum age group.. not really into the older age bracket drama. also i love watching comedy ones like Densha Otoko and My Boss My Hero.. classic! some tear jerkers are ok as well but i watch those when im in the mood. 1 Litre of Tears was awesome. i also check out which ones other people are downloading (seeders/.leechers) the "stats" so to say. i dont really read reviews as i find my opinon differs from some other peeps that post here. but the most useful ones were on jdorama.com. also if they are ranked low may want to see when it came out. theres a lot of those on there that are far up on the ranking that i find was actually worse than others that are lower ranked.now i also look for my favorite actors/actresses. so yeah thats my take on it. view my profile to see my age and stuff.. its there.

The first thing I look for, is the cast. If the whole cast looks boring, or there's an actor/actress I don't like in it, I'm probably not interested, but I read the plot synopsis, before I decide.

Plot, genre, director, location, writer (very important in KDrama) come before actors for me. I have a selected few of actors I really like (Hyun Bin, for example) and I'll check out a new drama for their sake only - but if it's simply a bad drama, no pretty face will keep me interested long enough to finish it.
Something that's a big factor for me when deciding which drama to continue watching is the atmosphere of a drama and whether or not I enjoy this world. I'll list IWGP as an example - I'm not a particular fan of the actors, but the atmosphere, costumes, slang usage etc. is just amazing and I love this drama. Another drama I loved despite hating the main actress (Itoh Misaki) would be Densha Otoko. I loved the animation embedded into the series (like the computer animations of Japan, and Densha's message falling onto the earth like meteors!). Sometimes it's the little things.
Another important thing would be the music. I absolutely adore good music in dramas.

I really enjoy short dramas versus long dramas, so I typically end up avoiding Cdramas. (Im sure Im missing out on some wonderful dramas, but I really can't stand 40+ episodes, let alone have room for it on my harddrive). And, yes, I like to see my favorite pretty boys and favorite actresses in a drama, but if it gets a lot of not so good reviews...I wouldn't even bother (ie, Wedding with Jang Nara.) Or I'll give it a shot but probably not finish it (ie, Kurosagi with Yamapi). There's really nothing wrong with watching a drama based on one's favorite actors/actresses, it only becomes a problem if that's ALL they watch and not give other dramas a shot and/or refuse to admit that that drama with their adored actor/actress really isn't that great. And unless its a Jdrama, I'll most likely not go near it if there's no subtitles available and definitely not if there's no seeders. The music/OST is a plus though-- and a lot of the Kdramas Ive seen have really nice OST's. (Or it might just be the emotion associated with the music that makes me enjoy the OST so much, especially after I finish a series.)

90 percent of the time i choose to check out a drama based on synopsis. I watch more JDramas than K-Dramas. I read about JDrama's synopsis and the genre it has. A lot of times i just want pure comedy without any romance, or sadness. I used to choose a drama based on the characters' or actors' names. Reason i d/led Goodbye My Love is because the character's name was Min-Su. Its hard to explain. I will watch Goodbye My Love when the time will be right. Whatever sounds interesting is what i'll d/l. Sometimes i want to get dramas to compliment other dramas i d/l. I don't care for actors or who's in it. If it sounds interesting, i'll check it out.
