Will D-Addicts eventually have this drama? Seems like it's fairly popular.

I've watch a JDrama title Antique. If it's the same JDrama that you mentioned.. here are the facts that you needed about the drama. I've seen this and I will give it 5 stars... hehehe...

Synopsis:

Tachibana, the owner of a confectionery that likes hot-spicy food more than cakes; Ono, the superb party chef that has a mysterious aura, and Eiji, the ex-boxer who loves cakes that now works at Antique. This is a refreshing, yet heartfelt comedy about the 3 very unique personalities (more than that, all 3 are good looking!), that work until the wee hours of the night at a small confectionery called "Antique." The story follows the romance, family life and friendship that these 3 men from different generations experience.

A confectionery with a "flavor" not like most. Located in the middle of an ordinary residential area, "Antique" stays open until 2 a.m. Every single thing in the shop is antique, in fact even the sherry glasses that water comes in look like they would cost 50,000 yen. On top of this, all the sweets that are sold are unbelievably delicious. The thing that is most peculiar about "Antique" though is that all 3 of the men that work here are very handsome, and each has an interesting past. Those that frequent the store all are also... Sysnopsis acquired from Jdorama.Com - Awesome site to find other Japanese Dramas and information.

Starring Takizawa Hideaki, Shiina Kippei, Fujiki Naohito, Koyuki, Abe Hiroshi, Enari Kazuki, Kobayashi Susumu, Nishino Taeko, Tsuji Kazunaga, Manabe Kaori

Bingo :thumright:. I was hoping that anandaclan would find out by doing what I suggested. Besides, there's a few threads about this drama and so far, no one has released any episode of it yet (with English subs).

Rumor had it that it was only a VCD rip anyway. I can't confirm for sure, but that's what I heard....

I know a website that has the first seven episodes with Chinese and English subs. The English subs are bad and the quality is low, but it is watchable.

It's here http://www.anime-theatre.com/jdrama/

So anandaclan's question wasn't that sucessless. :D

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned IRC. I downloaded at least the first few eps from either jem's channel #2muchdrama or from JTV's channel maybe a year ago. The video quality was very poor but it was e-subbed (maybe engrish). I can't remember who was serving them. A few different people were IIRC. I had no idea that jem did a capture of that one. Not my cup of tea at all. Seems like a chick drama. So I deleted it. I would try some jdrama IRC channels first. If no one is serving it anymore you could try a snail mail trade for it (maybe at jdorama.com). It's definitely possible to get if you really want it.

I bought the series through buruburu's japanese dorama list. =) It's definitely not the typical JDorama. It's quirky and often pokes fun at itself, a very episodic series. However, I really enjoyed it because I liked the main characters: they were funny and cute, especially Takizawa Hideaki's cake-loving character (so far my favorite character that Takizawa Hideaki has played),. Don't expect the drama to really go anywhere or have some deep plot because it doesn't. As the intro says, it's just a story about 4 guys and a cake shop.

Post by earthtomay » Aug 12th, '05, 21:20

Hi :)

I've been watching the drama Antique and I just finished it; however my Japanese is still in it's baby stages so throughout a good portion of the series, I had very little idea of what was going on. I have read the basic summary about how it's a cake shop with three hot owners, yada yada, but I was wondering if anyone out there who has actually seen the series and knows what was going on would care to share a more in depth summary with me?

For instance I never figured out why Eiji left boxing, for one thing. ^_^O

If anyone knows where to find a more indepth summary of the show, or wants to share there knowledge of it with me, please do! (I'd be uber greatful :)

Thanks!

hmmm..I'm not too sure if anyone has really seen all of "Antique Cake Shop" since someone was asking about uploading it here sometime ago. It's not really easy to find a summary of it since most of what I find so far is what you already know. Sorry if I can't help you, but at least I tried to find a summary link to this drama with no luck. :-(

I didn't really read much on the site, i was searching for "antique" cause it seemed to pop out once in a while, and wanted to check it out. and the fact that the dl didn't take long was a bonus.

...however, after watching part of the ep, i still don't know what it's about...(an ex-boxer who LOVES pastries)??

Don't worry. You're not going to be on my bad side at all

Besides, it's dependent on the types of questions that are being asked. I could help others nicely, but mostly if they're questions that haven't been answered yet here or when searching the internet. Otherwise, I treat d-addicts like a library, "most of the resources are here, but you just have to look around to find what you want"

lol, what you said was very true...i've actually been a d-addicts fan for a long period of time now, but only recently registered as a user. and it's completely understandable how repetitive questions can rub any the wrong way.

That's why I gave ShaolinMonkey my thanks for complimenting me on my "intimidation". I would continue to say more, but I'm starting to go :offtopic: about Antique.

Note: That's not me gettting angry at you, but that's just how the emoticon shows it and I can't change it to something else unless I knew how. I bet someone will come back to tell me to "read the FAQ". :-)

Thanks for the effort; I know it's been really hard to find any kind of in depth summary ^_^O But I'll have to check out anime-theater and see if I can find the subtitled version. You're right, subtitles are better than no subtitles!

There is a manga version too. It's published in english by DPM. Anyone read it yet? 8)
I think it's pretty close to the drama story.

not sure if the following is a spoiler:

Eiji left boxing because he has problem with his eyes. Detached retinas.

But that is the story in the manga. Not sure if they use that for the drama version. :lol

^ Yeah, that's it. At first, I remember it was something about his ear.. but that's just weird. I've read some of the manga.. the art didn't really get to me. The manga is shounen-ai, but I don't think the drama is.

Hi: 8)
Short summary: The owner was a rich kid who was kidnapped when young. His kidnapper fed him nothing but cake, so he hates the stuff. He opened the shop as an adult to try to get over the aversion. The boxer had to quit for his health (that's not too much of a spoiler, right?) He wanted to find a job he could love as much as boxing. He wanted to work here cause boxers are always starving themselves, so cake was never on his menu, but he loves the stuff. You understand about the bodyguard/friend? (Abe Hiroshi's character). Anyhow, the episodes are, well, episodic, cause they focus on customers, etc. I don't remember episode details, but you can trade Groink for the series, request it reposted with the e-subs at ABMJ, where I originally got it, but I think nobody has a pristine copy. BTW, did you check WWW.Jdorama for a summary? (Is it just me, or do those 3 W's look strange all together? :blink )

I'm seeking for the english-subtitled one of this series and I find it available @ZOOMMOVIE as well as SENSASIA. The thing is I have no idea how's the quality of their subtitle. Besides, seeing the discussion in this thread about poor-quality English-subtitled version makes me afraid of getting the poor-quality one. Any suggestion would be much appreciated!

Hmm...no, I don't think registration is required. I got these a while ago so I don't know what's on with them now. Maybe they're down? Sorry I can't be of much help. They worked fine when I got them. I used a download manager though...

I actually have all of them but to make a torrent, I don't know if the subbers or the owner of the site would be too happy. I suppose I could do it if I had permission. The quality is rather bad though :-( I'll ask if I can make a torrent for you guys..

:-) Sorry to bring this up again but, have you guys tried downloading from the site? I tried it today just for fun and to see if it works and it works fine. I even got one episode and watched parts of it. I use firefox but that really has nothing to do with it. Maybe it was down last time? I don't know, sorry if you guys already got it.

albertoavena: I tried once again. It does not work for me with Firefox or IE. I get the same error message. Perhaps, some IPs are banned? But I never been to the website until I read this thread..

Btw, may I ask who is the lady in your avatar picture?

Sorry about the site. You might be right, they might ban certain IP's, not sure. I tried again right and it works for me.. :-( At least there's a torrent now though so it's alright.

The lady in my avatar is Ishihara Satomi. In my opinion, she's one of the most beautiful actresses I've seen. Here's some info on her: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Ishihara_Satomi :-)

:D Thank you for the link. It is still active. This series is so funny. Many are "lost in translation". Thank again.

Anybody know if this drama is based on the manga Antique Bakery?

Nevermind. Figured it out myself. And it is.
