first what about we learn self introduction...
u can u introduce yourself with a greating
hajimemashite=nice to met youi(ONLY IN THE FIRST MEETING)
konichiwa=good afternoon
konbanwa= good evening
oyasumi nasai=good night
and ohayo gosaimasu=good morning
then u can say
watashi wa= i'm.....
or watashi no namae wa....= my name is
to say how old u are u can say
watashi wa...(your age)desu.
u can also briefly explain wat u like or dislike....
.......(subject) ga suki desu= i like....
or ga ichiban daisuki...=i really like...
(remember before ga is always put in front of suki or ichiban daisuki or daisuki, to indicates u like or dislike)
....(subject)ga kirai desu=i hate....
...(subject)ga suki janai=i don't like....
after telling ure like and dislike u can say
dozo yoroshiku or dozo yoroshiku=please ure guidance/please be nice to me or take care of me...

here sum useful website to use
http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html
http://www.trussel.com/f_nih.htm
http://www.englishjapaneseonlinedictionary.com/

here sum hirgana and katakana table
http://www.learn-japanese.info/hiragana.html
http://www.aluminumstudios.com/japanese ... _table.gif
http://www.aluminumstudios.com/japanese ... _table.gif

now let me introduce my self properly
hajimemashite
watashi wa maureen desu
watashi wa ju-yon sai desu
etoo...supotsu,ongaku to nihon no dorama mo, ga ichiban daisuki desu...(i really like/enjoy to play sports, listening to music and watching japanese dramas)
sore kara subete no wa-shoku ga ichiban daisuki desu....
(and then i really like all of japanese food)

Everyone i really apologize but i won't be able to teach you guys hiragana and katakana, because my computer can't read japanese letters because of sum reason....
but i gave u a list of hiragana and katakana table up on top so if u want to know just look at the table and if u don't understand u can ask me....
And i'm so sorry if my teaching is not very good or useful...^^u can ask me any time if u don't understand...

Lesson for to day please introduce your self properly
with all of the things that i've wrote on top and feel free to ask if u need sumtin....
Sore jaa..mata ne...
Jaa yoroshiku onegaishimasu.....

Not to be a party pooper, but just point out something I noticed...

Where you say :

"etoo...supotsu,ongaku to nihon no dorama mo, ga ichiban daisuki desu"

You can leave out the GA because the particle MO takes it's place (not true of all particles, but certainly in this case). So the sentence should read:

"etoo...supotsu,ongaku to nihon no dorama MO ichiban daisuki desu"

Now, not to say that what you've said is wrong, but let's make the sentence more natural:

"Eetoo... Sports to ongaku to nihon no dorama ga ichiban daisuki desu"
"えーと…スポーツと音楽と日本のドラマが一番大好きです。"

The "to" (と) used above indicates that ONLY the things listed are your favorites things to do. This implies that there is nothing else you really like apart from those things listed. If you want to imply that there are other things you like but can't list them all, you would say:

"Eetoo... Sports ya ongaku ya nihon no dorama nado ga ichiban daisuki desu"
"えーと…スポーツや音楽や日本のドラマなどが一番大好きです。"

The "ya" (や) and "nado" (など) are like two ends of the same chain, they always come together (although "nado" is sometimes omitted). "Ya" comes in between everything you list, and "nado" comes right after the final thing you list. This sentence pattern implies that you really really like sports, music and Japanese dramas among other things. The "to" particle is very specific and limiting so you may find that it's not used as commonly as "ya" and "nado".

If you wanted to be more specific about the things you like, for example mawchan/Maureen said she likes to "do" sports, "listen" to music, and "watch" Japanese dramas. While all of this is implied by simply stating "sports" or "music" you can actually describe the things you like "doing" as opposed to just simply describing "what" you like. Sounds a little complicated, but it's not really. If anyone's interested I can explain further.

Sorry to hijack, good luck to us all!

hmm, sorry to come posting here all of a sudden(I was browsing through d-addicts and saw this latest topic)...

daisuki is to like a lot, but ichiban daisuki is your favourites right? Usually I see it used for identifying things in specific, so I'm wondering can ya/nado be used directly with ichiban daisuki? as ya/nado seems to represent "things like..."

Can anyone help?

Once again, sorry to enter with such questions, but since this is a learn jap thread, so hopefully questions and doubts are allowed as well. ^^

I personally find "ichiban daisuki" to be a bit too strong a phrase to use when describing more than one thing. If I'm talking about many things like sports, music and Japanese dramas then I will omit the "ichiban" and just put "daisuki" because by stating those specific three things you are immediately highlighting them anyway. You're right, "ichiban" is used to highlight one specific thing (you like). For the sentence I used as an example above, I would probably say it like this:

"Eetoo... Sports ya ongaku ya nihon no dorama nado ga daisuki desu"
"えーと…スポーツや音楽や日本のドラマなどが大好きです。"

("daisuki" itself is still pretty strong for me, but that's just a personal thing)

Hope that helps.

Arigatoo gozaimasu Gizelle-san!

Anoo, for your introduction, I think it is okay but I don't think you need to use "watasi" every time you make a new sentence. For example, "Watasi wa, Kim desu. Adana wa, 'K' desu"

You don't need to add the "watasi no ___" because it is already implied that you are talking about yourself. If you change subjects, then you need to make that clear to the other person.

I hope this helps a little...

Me and Japanese culture......

I've watched anime all my life. I started watching JDorama's 2yrs ago, JMovies 7yrs. My favorite food is Japanese(yummy sushi! dragon roll & mochi bun) I can sing in Japanese (also almost any language) and also I can do a good mock imitation of speaking Japanese. Only I don't know 94% of what I'm saying LOL

I can read and write

but I an't understand the meaning of it....
I'm half korean and black

I can't write or read in hangeul or konglish. I can speak a little though. I'm taking Korean at my university though. No one around here speaks it which really sucks. I can't wait till I graduate so I can go abroad. :-)

oh I'll tell you mandarin is really fun to learn. Well chinese is really similar to english in a lot of ways. My friend is teaching me mandarin, only to speak it though. I'm going to learn to read and write from a class.

I've taken french, spanish, italian and mandarin. I don't remember anything about how to write or read it and thats really bad, but I can speak them fine hahahaha I'm lazy when it comes to remembering things. If it isn't important to me I'll forget it. I know mastering speaking won't be a problem for me, but to read and write will be a downfall if I don't buckledown and be a good learner. :glare: :|

I have a question.. isn't "ga" used when something is unknown or when u refer to something for the first time... what i know is that "ga" is more like "a" in eng, while "wa" is more like "the". I do know that it has many other uses... demo mizukashi desu ne "-_-. can u just explain why did u use it here kudasai ^^

minnasan... I have a suggestion, why don't we try something different. Like ok for the next week let's keep it greetings, we learn and try some greetings. the week after let's change it to learning a new structure... like while having a normal conversation you can use the "structure of the week" once or as many times as you can... the week after let it be verbs for example... and so on.
That's only a suggestion... coz if we keep it like that our knowledge will only be limited to greetings... ne minna??

Ja mata ^^

Ano kawaii_kojou-san
when u want to say i'm 14 years old u can say watashi wa ju yon sai desu
Sai describe how old u are and the sentence that u used for telling ure age doesn't relli make sense....lols and to all the new member Hajimemashite watashi wa maureen desu, mawchan to yobareteimasu...yoroshiku onegaishimasu...

Ore.sama -san i agree with ure idea...
let me explain ga is used to describe sumthin that u like or sumthin that u dislike
tatoeba(for example) watshi wa ongaku ga suki desu
(i like music)
or piano ga dekimasen(i can't play piano)
or watashi wa kankoku tabemono ga daikirai desu..( i relli hate korean food)
Do u understand or want me to explain more?

and i think u got it all mix up wa particle is more like a or an in english, but it's not always a or an it can be sumtin else depends on the sentence
wa shows the subject of a sentence, the person or thing that we're talkin about.
wakarimashitaka?( do u understand?)
and it's muzuklashi (hard) not mizukashi...^^
eetoo...nihon go wa chotto muzukashi kedo omoishiroi da ne?( japanese is a bit hard but it's iteresting isn't it?)^^....
Jaa minna-san tsugi wa donna koto benkyoshimasuka?
(so everyone what kind of thing u want to learn next?)
should we learn about adjectives?
like how to say i want to do sumthing or it was sumthin...
or do u want to learn how to say
who is it?
which? what?
when and stuff like that?
u can choose which ever u guys feel like studying first and we'll try to speak japanese in this forum as much as we can...
Jaa kotae o kikitai yo....mata ne...

watashi wa 15 desu.

ano when u say my nickname is cumthin
u can say watashi wa christina desu, cris to yobareteimasu( or u can call me cris)
and when want to say hajimemashite it's better if u say it like this
hajimemashite watashi wa....
and in the end after finish introducing ure self u can say yoroshiku onegaishimasu
because yoroshiku onegaishimasu is more like an ending when u say to ppl ( please take care of me or please co-orperate)
aaa soshite kawai-kojou-san good afternoon is konbanwa..
as u can say i've write everything u need to know for introduction in the first page
and please read wat i've typed about the introduction first when u want to ask sumthin and if it's not there then u can ask me...so i dun have to type again and again...^_^

paul san konichiwa
when u want to say i'm fromboston or i live in boston u can say
boston ni sundeimasu( i live in boston)
and when u want to say cristina-san mo, minna-san mo,
u supposed to put to between cristina-san and minna-san instead of mo
so it's cristina-san to, minna-san mo
(chris-san and everyone)

min'nasan, kon'ni chi wa. (good afternoon everyone)
that's the way i've learned how to write in roomaji. my japanese teacher said you add apostrophes for words like min'na, or dan'go. as long as there's an N character in the word, dependent from any of the hiragana or kan'ji characters? iono, it works both ways though.

hajimemashite. watashi wa susan desu. doozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu. =]
