But, im glad they're not gonna do that game in manga right now as well...
I mean, why spoil the whole manga? If you like the story, go read the manga, its better too...
The drama is for watching Erika & how the scriptwriter change the story

There are 3 manga out right now. Materials for the 4th book is being published in Young Jump, but the 4th manga is not out yet.sunmoon wrote:how many vols does the manga have? i only saw 1 on the irc channel i went to. I'd like to check out the manga as well cuz this drama is so cool
i watched all 5 eps today and it was just love
Anyway when is the new ep coming out? Bah i should really go back to studying for my finals lol
Matsuda is just deliciously bad-ass in this role. In order to convey the cool, most actors his age preen, pose, and pucker like they're fronting a fashion spread (I'm looking at you Yamapi! ) Matsuda, on the other hand, leans forward and uncomfortably ionto your comfort space. With that tight grin, he reveals just how nasty Akiyami can be.Translation: Both Toda and Matsuda are very in character. Especially Matsuda, he (even) mastered the way Akiyama sits. I couldn't help but call Matsuda "Akiyama" (laugh).
belleza wrote: Episode 5 was terrific. Sure, about 75% involved four characters talking amongst themselves in the same room. I felt like I was watching a stage play. But, then I realized Liar Game is kinda like late night poker with psychedelic colours (lime-green fog? wtf?) and banging electro/nu-breaks and hot men and women wearing tight pants. That's awesome!
Anyhoo . . . I think the opening sequence to Liar Game is one of my all-time favorites. It's so simple, but deliciously sexy. I'm just hoping someone out there will be inspired to make live-action poker this cool. Never has throbbing dance music and jump cuts been used to make people standing around and talk look so dang exciting.
I meant before I saw Nao as kind of like a dog to Akiyama in that she is soooo helpless and needs someone to look after her (not that dogs are helpless but you get the analogy). (And not that you see your mother as a dog!)orichan wrote:Well... people get closer through extrodinary situations/adventures.
If Nao doesn't get conned she would never have a chance to get close to Akiyama.
I wouldn't really call their relationship the relationship between a dog owner and a dog. You are not supposed to see your beloved mother in a dog... lol. In any case, Akiyama probably views saving Nao as a second chance for him to redeem himself after not being able to save... you get the idea.
I'm hoping the opposite - that Nao will turn on Akiyama. The Artist wrote:Hello everybody, I have been lurking for awhile and decide to comment on this great drama for once. So far the first 5 episodes have been roller coaster with non-stop suspense. I am wondering if Nao character is going to change thru all this. She has been the most honest person so far, but now that she decides to take on the game to save Akiyama its going to be interesting how she copes with the bad guys on her own.
Also Akiyama has owned the show so far, the actor does a great job portraying the cold yet kind hearted guy that is Akiyama. Now I can forsee Akiyama going against Nao in the end but this whole thing is set up so so screwed you can't really put a definite on any speculation. Ep 6 should provide a major turning point in the story things are going to get even more interesting.
That's very possible with the whole new theme that she is going to save him , it might turn out that she will have to go against him to do so. Though that will also means means she will start to become dishonest deceitful person. Maybe she will start using her "Too Honest" weakness to deceive people. In anyway this is going to be very interesting.GoddessCarlie wrote: I'm hoping the opposite - that Nao will turn on Akiyama.
hey... can i copy that poll site of yours to show my friends in another forum? im also curious of the outcome. lolz... i voted for liar game, not coz of nao or shota... its the whole story that made me interested...GoddessCarlie wrote:Ha! gemtsoi: I had that same fear - "Oh no, she's not going to give away her share is she???"
Isn't it strange that someone so nice and kind and honest, is so irritating to watch. This is why, my friends, you must never write a story with a "flawless" heroine! If she doesn't change by the end of this show, I think I may have to delete the show and empty the recycling bin (the closest I can get to throwing the show across the room).
(funny thing is, on my site, I have a poll going for favourite show and liar game is winning... Another funny thing, I keep watching... but I know it's only for akiyama.)
He can't do that. Because in the next round Akiyama would be there again. Nao would definately listens to Akiyama more.GoddessCarlie wrote:I wish she could get some smarts all on her own too
lol. You do have a reason to hate him more. That laugh is nerve recking.orichan wrote:He can't do that. Because in the next round Akiyama would be there again. Nao would definately listens to Akiyama more.GoddessCarlie wrote:I wish she could get some smarts all on her own too
I think most of us will be happy when we see the next episode becauseI agree with everyone about Mushroom head. He is a very hatable character, whether his drama self or the manga counterpart. (I remember feeling the urge to slash my monitor up back when the material in episode 6 first appear in manga early last year).
Though seriously, I think I have more reason to hate him than anyone else here. I had to listen to his annoying laughter repeatedly (like 10 times and up) while I sub. I almost went mad.
And before another person asks again: The manga is not avaliable in English. If you want to read it. Go buy the Japan or Hong Kong version from comic book stores or yesasia or something.
Oh God, I will be honest like Nao and say that people like you, and posts like this post you made, annoy the hell out of me.gemtsoi wrote: I actually find Liar Game more painstaking than suspenseful. In fact, it hasn't created any suspense so far, just a lot of long-drawn out, brain-numbing explanations, weird, over the top characters, bad acting by the co-actors, and overwhelming camera angles/editing tricks. The only thing keeping me in the game is Akiyama's coolness and my loyalty to Toda Erika.
Ep.5 was only 36 minutes long and yet it felt SO long-winded! I was watching the progress bar and almost groaning because it wasn't ending yet... I was practically gripped with horror that Nao would turn all goody-goody and foolishly kind when she started sympathizing with the other losers.

Honestly, I think the first half of Episode 6 was the single worst segment of drama I've watched on any show this year. The explanation reminded me of the Itemized Deduction section of the 1040 form that I keep screwing up on year after year, with extra pretty graphics and such. It was numbingly bad, and at some point, my mind started drifting and started wondering whether the Mushroom Guy could be kinda cute if like the director used a yellow filter and made the sky go polka-dot.Painstaking? Oh please, this drama is going at a very fast rate compared to MOST if not all japanese dramas out there (except the ancient ones - i dont watch those). I can't possibly see how one could say this is so long and boring. Yes there's some explanation here and there. But oh for the sake of people who are not as "smart" as you, can you please just let them explain the tricks as how they are doing it now? Because I don't think it's too long or too repetitive. In fact, even though I could guess how the plan is going, I still enjoy very much all the explanation because the acting is pretty funny (mushroom guy).
LoL, that's a fantastic metaphor! A lot of the explanations really feel like tax form instructions!belleza wrote:Honestly, I think the first half of Episode 6 was the single worst segment of drama I've watched on any show this year. She's still too much of an idol. Few can make the idol to actress transition. You can still see her in pretty poses, but when she moves and emotes, it's not convincing ...belleza wrote:First time, I started feeling bad for Toda Erika too. I still don't know if she can act, but for a starring role, there's just nothing here to work with. Maybe Nao gets edgier in the 2nd half of the show.
She is the main reason I watc hthe show. I want to see whats going to happen to her next or if she will wise up. I look forward to seeing that. But I look more forward to Akiyama coming to the rescue.fastat3m wrote:I think Nao's stupidity/honesty is what makes the drama fun for me to watch. If she wasn't, she wouldn't need any help and the story wouldn't be interesting. Part of the show is Nao learning that in the real world isn't as pure as she thinks it is. If she learned this lesson after a week or two, there wouldn't be a show. The show is about her journy in becoming more aware of the real world. She will eventually learn in the show, but it should be a slow process. Even if you find her annoying, she is the main reason to watch the show, because without her, there would be no show.
Sometimes I think the great tragedy of Toda Erika was that she was born a woman. In an alternate universe, her hair would be laquered into fantastical gravity-defying shapes, her mouth would be on pernament pout, and she would be neither weak nor the queen bee. She's be the perfect, perfectly hammy Johnny Boy.She's still too much of an idol. Few can make the idol to actress transition.
I'd like to think so, but because the source material is a boy's manga, Nao probably won't amount to much more than a damsel/foil for Akiyama. Like Maki's rather useless character in Kurosagi, Nao just seems like an accessory to cover the emo contigency of His Coolness. And undoubtedly, in the Cool, Shota walks and talks like Pi pouts. The show is about her journy in becoming more aware of the real world.
yeah, she really got on my nerves in ep 6, get a backbone for god's sakes! Honestly, she's like a deer in headlights in this episode, very annoying...Tatsuri wrote:its her stupidity nonetheless that makes people notlike her. Can someone really be that dumb? I think the show kinda implied she had trouble getting jobs because she was too honest in job interviews. Too honest to eat either. Sigh Apparently, honesty is how Japanese women keep their size -1 <100lbs figure.? I mean, besides participating in the Liar Game, does she have a job/income?
I'm not sure that Nao is capable of doing anything.JKH wrote:On the topic of Nao, what exactly does her character do? I mean, besides participating in the Liar Game, does she have a job/income? Is she a student? Sorry if this has been answered somewhere! I must not have been paying attention...
Are you talking about the scene when she was pushing a old guy in a wheel chair? If so, that's her dad. Isn't her dad in the hospital. I wonder how she pays from him to stay inthe hospital?belleza wrote:I think the show kinda implied she had trouble getting jobs because she was too honest in job interviews. Too honest to eat either. Anyway there was a scene where it looked like she worked part-time at an old folk's home. Actually I think that was the one scene that warmed my heart for this sweet, good hearted idiot.
That guy in wheel chair IS Nao's father. The website says so. She also said she needed to take care of her father with terminal cancer in the hospital twice in ep 1.SmiLeeGirl wrote:Hey guys,
Did you have nice LG watching?
@ tatsuri - How do you know the old guy is in the wheelchair is her dad? I don't remember the scene with her pushing a wheelchair or working in a home? Which ep or is it the opener (I kinda skim those).
She lives in a room in that house looking thing. Her mother is probably dead and her father, as I said earlier, is in the hospital. She is not so poor she has to worry about where to get the money for food or rent. But she is not very rich either.@ JKH - My guess as to what Nao does...
Well she has a big house or is it just a room in the big house? - and no parents around (well except for maybe wheel chair guy being her dad. I think shes and orphan living off some inheritance... or maybe insurance $.
This is what they said in the manga on how Nao deals with others:
So what could nao do. Seems like if she worked with people they would always use her as a scapegoat and get her fired OR dump their work on her. She would probally have to do something simple away from others. I dunno stuff envelopes at home???
