In episode 8 there was that scene with the heart beating and Akiyama and Nao and I could feel some serious feelings going on there but it ended there. I don't think there will be any romancing arising since there is only 2 episodes left, though something may happen with such a long final ep. I'm so anxious to find out

that's exactly why i felt that there's gonna be a romance because of that scene....there wasn't any scene like that before with Akiyama and Nao...and for them to have that scene then i think there's a possibility that romance will come up...and i just love how that "romantic" (or leading to romantic) scene was cut off.... :lol :lol

I don't think there's gonna be any romance. Some of you watch too much Korean dramas or too stereotypical. That part was just a scene where it looked like Akiyama was pissed and she was scared, then it was nothing. Just a funny scene. It just reminds me of "Nobuta wo produce" where all these girls was hoping that the lead actor and the loner get together.

I don't think he was mad. He didn't look angry. I don't think there will be serious romance but it might end up like Kurosagi where they end it with a possibility or hint of romance in the future. I don't think that scene was coldness though.

I don't think he was mad at all either.

He did look a little annoyed, but I think it was at himself because he doesn't understand Nao (and this is definitely where a romance could fit in). Akiyama is used to people swindling, and lying--his entire character is based on this, and we all know it. So for him to meet a person who so honestly believes in the good in people is...different to say the least. Akiyama, I think, was expecting Nao to turn into everyone else in the game, a person who lies and cheats, but she hasn't. So, he just doesn't get her, which I'm sure bothers him.

To me the expression in his face is kind of
"What on earth should I do with this girl? Should I slap her? Hug her? Argh!" :P

If you click on the above link, and scroll down the page you can see Akiyama crying. I am thinking maybe this will happen when he finds out who is behind the liar game. Does anyone think it could be his mum? If not who do you think is behind all of this?

It's improved since the first episode, I think. Or maybe my mind has just been manipulated to like it... But I didn't think much of the first episode, and now I'm kind of addicted.

That happens in episode 10. In episode 9 we're introduced to Yokoya, a white-haired man who claims to have the ability to see through things and is always seen sniffing some sort of powder called "cool honey".
It also seems he is actually behind the whole game, or at the very least can give orders as he pleases.
「俺が本当の俺だよ!」/ "I am the real me!" - That's what Akiyama is saying on the preview...I wonder what'll happen....

You forgot to add how he asked Nao something along the line of if she really understand him. XD

I am not sure if Akiyama is really crying, but he surely looks emotional and he was grabbing at his head in the ep 10 preview.

It's all the Akiyama angst I talked of in the last post. =D I seriously can't wait.

Who the hell is the white haired man ? He looks ugly.. reminds me of some art martial movies, the guy who reached the highest level hehehehe

I'm dead curious what will happen in the 3rd game, since some of you have already watched it and spoiled the thread (ehem..)

So you better spoil it all, thanks to tell me what happened (in details please) :roll

Well, the group is taken to an airport, where they meet Yokoya, the white-haired man, who asked to take part in the game (he was in another playing field).
The players are then told how the third game will work: in this game, players are split into two teams-water country and fire country. The purpose of this game is to smuggle money(which is actually you're own money) from the opposing country's bank. In order to do so, players from each team face of (30 times) in two rooms. The problem is, each player has been given 500 million yen, instead of the usual 100 million!
So, the players take their trunks, either filled in with money or empty to the room, where their opponent awaits them. If your opponent thinks the trunk is empty, he'll say 'Pass'. If he thinks it has money inside, he'll say 'Doubt', followed by the amount he thinks is inside the trunk, up to 100 million yen.
So, imagine Nao tries to steal 100 million from the Fire Bank. She goes there, takes the money, and puts it in her trunk. Yokoya then tries to stop her, by trying to guess the amount she has there. Assume he misses and passes. This means she manages to get the money, because the trunk is all but empty.
Now imagine he called for 50 million yen. She would still take the money because the amount she is trying to take is greater than the one he predicted.
Finally, if the trunk was empty (Nao didn't take any money from the bank) and Yokoya said 100 million, he'd have to pay half that amount.
Anyway, the Water team (Nao + Akiyama + Fukunaga + Oono + Hiromi) takes quite a beating in the beginning of the game because everyone is afraid of betting their money, whereas the fire country isn't.
Nevertheless, Akiyama manages to deceive one of the fire country players, meaning they can no longer rely on their 'pass' strategy. All was going well until Yokoya shows up.....He beats Oono and faces Nao. He asks her if she was the one who said that everyone could be happy in the Liar Game. She says she was indeed the one and he calls her stupid. He then goes on about how people who deceive others have a right to exploit them.
He then reveals he is actually a clairvoyant. Nao refuses to believe him and, to prove her wrong, he guess the amount on her trunk which was, as thought by Fukunaga, 51 million yen (up until that point only 3 patterns -doubt 100 million, doubt 50 million and pass - had emerged). He did that again with Fukunaha (52 million), all the while Oono says he found a sure-fire way to win ( it works), but isn't willing to let others in unless Fukunaga and everyone else call him 'Oono-sama'.

hey "Ruler of Takamagahara", you should put your stuff in a spoiler notation if it tells the story, i haven't read much of your message fully but from what ive read its seems to be a spoiler from the next ep.

anyway ohhh white azn guy.. he must be a bad guy. I wonder if there is still a mr.X in the game or was that whole idea given up on, because mushroom man is pretty crap, he tends to loose all his money each game.

I read a bit of the spoilers for ep 10. Please don't read if you don't want to be spoiled. This is from the web site and not from the episode preview at the end of ep 9.
Apparently Akiyama lost his cool and lost pretty badly. O_o How will he turn his lost into a win this time with just 10 rounds to go?

It's the first time I'm posting in this thread... anyway, yeah, I was wondering too, cuz according to the website, Akiyama loses all his money and then grabs the other players' cards and keeps losing money too... so unless they somehow thwart Yokoya's ability to see through things and smuggle some money back into their accounts, they're finished, it seems...

It's supposed to be.

The manga artist said in an interview that one of the things manga readers get to look forward to is an ending different from the drama.

In any case the third game is not finished in the manga as of now. So.

That's cause in the manga Akiyama got his revenge. Akiyama in the drama did not. He lost his cool once already, when gold tooth cornered him.

Anyway. I suggests you go and put what you said under spoiler tags.

What did I spoil? Loosing his cool like what pensif said in the spoiler would be totally out of character.

Anyway, I'm outta here.

I won't be writing about what happens in episode ten, because it seems that most people are waiting for the subtitled version to come out, but I can assure you of one thing: this is not just the best episode over, but also the one to make Liar Game the best Dorama of the year if not of all time!

Perhaps some people won't like the first part, as it can be predicted, but the rest is definitely worth it.

On a side-note, I wrote something about the preview for episode 10 claiming Akiyama would say "I am the real me!". This is wrong. The sound effects and the words he actually uttered overlapped, and I misundertood 俺(ore) for これ(kore). This means he actually says "This is the real me."

Akiyama VS Yokoya - The ultimate battle of wits.

Contiunuing from last week's episode, Oono is rocking and managed to convince almost everyone he has a faultless way of winning the third round. He even manages to have Mushroom and Hiromi worship him as the 'ruler' of Water Country.
Akiyama isn't impressed, though, and starts to see through his and Yokoya's tactics: the two are in fact working together since Yokoya took Oono's money a couple turns before. They have the same amount of cash and have been signaling each other.
Nao then faces Yokoya who, having his clairvoyance farce busted, resorts to psychological warfare in an attempt to freak Akiyama out. He reveals over the speakers he was sent by the same company who made his mother kill herself and that Nao was chosen because she resembled her.
He then tells Nao his trunk is empty. Nao passes and he takes the money, with Akiyama banging against the glass wall between the two countries, crying.
Akiyama then goes on a losing spree. He loses all his money and resorts to force to acquire his team mates' cards.
By turn 20 Yokoya thinks he has won, but the results are the same as they were 10 turns prior.
Akiyama made a deal with the other 3 Fire Country members. Using the Water country cards Akiyama took from Kinoko, Hiromi, Chibi Kinoko and Nao-tan, the Fire Country members would withdraw 100 million each from the Fire bank. Akiyama passed them all so the money came back to then. But when it was his turn, he took the money again from the Fire Bank. The players would then doubt and the money would flow back to them.
This means Akiyama managed to reduce the Fire bank's money supply to aprox. 400 million yen, while the Water Bank has still one billion. He is also in possession of the cards belonging to the Fire Country members, which means they'll do as he orders.
Yokoya is on his own, because Akiyama won't give him the money like he will to the other three, so he must get at least 500 million to get out of debt.
Akiyama then tells him his trunk is empty. Yokoya refuses to believe and quickly calls in 100 million. He misses and hands over 50 million yen!

OMGoodness. Reading from everybody's reviews of episode 10, it looks realllllly good and especially lots of NAO x AKIYAMA loveliness, so OMG... CANNOT WAIT. <3 Episode 9 was fantastic already. :D :D

And I hope that snowman freak will just die. He totally is not psychic. Akiyama will tell us that he is not pyschic in episode 10, and if not, 11. :D LOL.

^^ yes, he did so in ep 10.
just like most of you who couldn't wait for the sub, I'm also watching this episode raw. well, at least I could follow the story line and it is exactly like what people were saying in the previous posts.

I noticed a scary side of Akiyama in this episode:
Image
looks like a cross between Joker from Batman and that kid from Ju-On! scared the hell out of me... :pale:

## Spoiler for episode 11. Read at your own discretion. ##
Looks like the man behind the Liar Game tournament is in a sanatorium! At least that's what it says on the official website.
Akiyama will truly have to destroy Yokoya...now that he is in possession of Nao's card. I really like Nao-tan, but her ingenuity is out of this world.I would never trust Yokoya, even though I do admit he has style, especially when he laughs and says "Doubt!".

lol, thanks. I usually get yelled at because I have this habit of telling people of what's going to happen in advance. In fact, I couldn't resist and when ahead and read the synopsis for episode 11.

I just hope I understood the game correctly, because Liar Game isn't the sort of dorama you can easily understand, even when it's subtitled, let alone raw!

LOL, I'm deciding weather to read the hidden scary side message or not. I probably would wait for the hard subs to come out, not to spoil anything. :D

From what I made of the synopsis for episode 11, Nao persuades Yokoya to apologize to Akiyama and he agrees to call the game a draw. Nao then gives Yokoya her cash card and Yokoya asks for hers. She agrees and Yokoya starts laughing.
I'd assume he wants to use her card as leverage in hope of getting the three fire country cards back.

I've seen the first 4 episodes, i'm really liking the soundtrack for this series! the plot is quite good, a bit predictable in some parts (i worked out what he was doing in the first round!) but the second round is good so far, pretty clever.

Yokoya tells Akiyama he was sent by the same pyramid scheme company Akiyama destroyed 3 years prior to the events of the dorama.
Nao looks surprised, but Yokoya tells she must have heard about it from Tanimura...about Akiyama's mother.
'Why do you think I am here?'-he asks.
The truth is he was the representative of pyramid scheme company and was sent to the LGT as punishment...if he loses, is life is pretty much over.
So, because he does not want to 'enjoy such a fun game all by himself' he lured Akiyama in, using Nao as bait.
He then basically says Akiyama's mother brought it on herself and that people don't trust and betray each other.
He then 'proves' it by telling Nao the briefcase he is holding is empty. She passes and his takes 100 million yen.

^^ oh so she's Iwasa Mayuko.. no wonder the name sounds familiar! she's in the second game as the lady with sunglasses all the time. she was suspected as the person who stole a player's money at the beginning of game two.

The funnest thing is that Mushroom head actually called Ono Mini-mushroom, it's not something that came to be because we the translators translated it that way.

I'm LOVING this show. I just finished with episode 9. I love the twists, although I've been able to keep up for the most part ... Well, sort of. I was feeling all smart because I had guessed everything that was going to happen through episode 6 ... and then episode 7 came and made me feel like a complete idiot. For some reason I couldn't even figure out the card thing lol ;;

But, I'm really looking forward to the next episode. <3

Very nice episode 9 sans the outburst and sardonic laughter...

This is probably the first episode where I wasn't really that annoyed with Mushroom. In fact, he was darn funny on this one.
Loved the hair toss and the outfit change :lol
I also like it that there's more participation from the other players. At least you get to see them more involved in the dynamics of the game.
