If there is going to be a second season, they will have to wait a bit (let the manga go for a bit)

There is a lot going on, with new characters being introduced and such...

But it would be awesome to see a second season of Iryu!!

wow!! iryu 2? very unexpected
I thought they had wrapped out the story nicely for season 1, though I wouldn't mind watching a 2nd season =)

on a personal note, I'm 100% sure I won't be doing the sub for 2nd season.. maybe madchuckles/mononoke102 or other subbers will.. who knows

Wed, August 8, 2007 (4:28pm EDT)
Fuji TV has confirmed a second season of the medical drama series "Iryu," starring Kenji Sakaguchi. Also returning are Teppei Koike and Kuranosuke Sasaki, among others, while Yuki Uchida joins the cast as a medical journalist.

"Iryu 2" will air on Thursday at 10:00pm, starting in October.

Iryu is one of my all-time favorite dramas, so I'm definitely looking forward to a second series. A 2 1/2 hour special to start out the season sounds really promising too. I wonder if they're going to be going along with the manga. I haven't read it just in case, because I don't want to be spoiled.

rumors say that there are some misunderstandings between her and the staff, so she was replaced by a new character to be played by Uchida Yuki. nevertheless, im going to miss her!!

Since it seems all the other main characters are in Iryu2, why only she is not there!

About the story...
It is not based on the manga, but an original story
The subject of the season 2 is "Medical services and Money."
The drama takes up current issues such as shortage of doctors, closing pediatric department and obstetric and gynecologic department one after another, and some other things which are also involved in hospital management.

Asada (Sakaguchi)'s comment:
"When I finished the 1st season, I really wanted to play Asada more. But I cant do it just because I want, also I thought they would unlikely make 2nd season because the 1st season included most of things in the manga. That's why I really worried what the story would be like when I had an offer for 2nd season. However, when I actually read the script, my worry was gone. I got excited like, "I can do it with THE script!" Well, my skill of operation stuff got rusty, so I started to practice with needle forceps. Asada will have to do more difficult operation than 1st season, so I am practicing for it too."

it is indeed sad without inamori izumi-san, i thought she was a cheerful and nice person, i just cant believe the rumor, cuZ in her other dramas, she is very outgoing and cheerful, just like pretty girls, which was one of my favs, by her of course... in this season, i am expecting a really good one, that will surpass season 1, i hope im not overestimating...lol... but im a super iryu fan, i had many dramas favor me more but iryu is breaking the record to be the top 1, i hope no drama will top it yet, in my top list...lol

hopefully they come up with a new storyline..usually 2nd seasons aren't as great as the 1st..though the cast looks pretty good.

omg!!! thanx soo much... its not that i dislike Yuki Uchida, but Sakaguchi-san told Inamori-san that the team would make it even without him as long as shes there.. and now shes not, so it will mess up the story.. kato-sensei is unreplacable.... i wish she was ther.. but thanx soo much for the update, patiently waiting til october...lol

BON Funsubs will be subbing Iryu 2. I have been in contact with the subber for Iryu and he will not be doing this season, so our team would like to give it a try. Most of our team members that saw the first season loved it and thought that it was underrated. Hopefully the second season will be as good as the first.

The new actress will NOT play the role of Kato sensei. Kato sensei is just written off the 2nd series, i haven't read much into this drama so don't ask me if she died or tranferred to another hospital or went overseas.

Yuki Uchida's (the new cast member) role will be that of a hot-shot reporter who covers medical issues.

The press conference for Iryu 2 was held earlier today. Lead actor Sakaguchi Kenji was reportedly aloof and responded with the answer "Nothing special" when posed with questions such as "What's the highlight of the drama?" "What about the episode that's currently being shot?"

In other news, the cast of Iryu 2, Galileo, SP, Swan no Baka, Abarenbou Mama will appear in the Waratte Iitomo 2007 Autumn Special tonight from 9.00 - 11.33 p.m. to promote their dramas.

Can't wait to watch Iryu 2, the first one was so awesome, I agree it was underrated, and I recommend it to everybody.

Even thou I prefer dramas with some sort of love story, but this one was intense enough to keep me on my toes through all the episodes.

Anyway, the ep1 had excellent lines which showed their character and surgery scenes we like.
I found myself comfortable before I knew it.

Like most people here I really enjoyed the first season to Iryu. And I was extremely happy to find out that there is a second season in the works. I'm looking definitely forward to the B.O.N. subs.

Ep 1 was very well-done, totally exceeded my expectations. I had doubts that season 2 would top season 1 and am gald to be proven wrong. For a 2hr sp, the pacing was surprisingly good with so a couple of things happening at the same time yet interlinked together. Given that season 2 is an orginal script with no manga storyline line to fall back on, i must admit to being terribly impressed.

One thing that's been on my mind though.... has our all sugoii Ryutaro ever failed in an op? I can't remember much of season 1 now and never read the manga before. Would be really interesting
if they can pull off 2 seasons full with him so god-like.
