when i read that the main characters were tsukasa and taro, i immediately thought of arashi sorry for the random dumb comment
anyway, i'm looking forward to this. it's been forever since i've watched a koichi drama. the last one i watched was remote. i haven't seen any promotions for this drama at all...why is that?

I'm looking forward to this one. The SP was funny, and it has been awhile since we had a drama starring Koichi. It feels like it's starting so much later than everything else this season, and yeah the time slot is kinda strange. Still, I've seen a fair amount of promotion for it, so maybe it'll do okay in that slot.
Has anyone heard news of the theme song yet? The wiki is saying Kinki Kids will do it, which would be great if it's true.

As a Kochan dai-fan I'm looking forward to this drama. )))) And this is the first serious drama role for Maru, so - gambatte!
Besides, it seems like the director is a old time KinKi collaborator. He did 'Ginro KaiKi Files', 'Harmonia', P.S. Genki ...' with Kochan; Kindaichi Shounen... both seasons with Tsuyoshi and Bokura no Yuuki. Besides, he was the director of 'Ikebukoro West Gate Park'.

Sushi Ouji ep 2 did not air in certain areas of Japan last week, a lot of areas do not get direct feeds from the 4 major commerical TV stations but their local stations get the feeds and rebroadcast out. You could be living in a area getting a non-direct feed and hence Sushi Ouji ep 2 did not air cos of your local station.Yorokobi wrote:Ok I am now officially confused because I downloaded episode 2 and watched it during the week however I was right after all and Sushi Oji! was not on last week and episode 2 on aired last night. So how the hell did that person get it on their clubbox before it had even aired???
The capture that's seen in clubboxes is probably done in an area that receives a direct feed from Asahi TV and they aired Sushi Ouji epi 2 last week.

*raises hand* I'm still watching! I just haven't seen the latest raws yet, because this seems to be a drama where I need subs more than I do on a lot of others. (Though I'll probably watch the raw anyhow after I get caught up again on everything.)
That timeslot still puzzles the h*** out of me.

Can some japanese-speaking fan could tell me the exact meaning of Tsukasa's catch phrase? What I hear is "Omae nanka nigitte yaru", which I would personally translate as "I am going to roll you [as you roll/grip sushi]!", but Love Song translate it as "I will kill you". Do I hear properly, for one thing? And if I do, is there any good reason to translate it as Love Song nonetheless? By the way, I must express my gratitude to this team for all their good job on ProDai and Sushi Oji
Thanks in advance for you answers

they are both correct because it's a catch phrase with a double meaning. ^_^kiddygrade wrote:Can some japanese-speaking fan could tell me the exact meaning of Tsukasa's catch phrase? It's really complicated to translate it without notes.

Thanks very much for your answer Now I understand it is an (intended) pun, quite well fitted to a sushi artist!Misato-san wrote:they are both correct because it's a catch phrase with a double meaning. ^_^

Maybe there was a note the first time, and I didn't see it? Anyway, it makes this catch phrase all the more interesting!
By the way, is there any pun in the name "Jinenryu"? And what is the difference between the readings "Ranma" and "Enma"?
Thanks in advance (Misato-san, I depend on you, ne?)

Well, I finished watching this one with subs by Love Song (you guys ROCK!!!!!!)
I gotta say, it surprised me how funny I found it, since I didn't read much reviews, I didn't know exactly what is was about or what to expect, only that it involved sushi (one of my favorite food in the world!), therefore I was happily surprised when I saw it was a "baka martial arts" tale, filled with comedy!!!!!
Gosh, I think it's funnier than my boss-my hero!
I loved everything about it!
Say, according to wikipedia:
I think I'll do some banners now... I'll post them later on, in case anyone wants any... hehehehe.

I wonder if Love Song will sub the movie next year? I hope they do! All the while I was thinking "how come he hasn't received any training for rice?" LOL!When ever Tsukasa sees fish eyes, he points to the fish eyes and says「お前なんか、握ってやる!」 (Omae nanka, nigitteyaro!) which roughly means "You are dead meat, punk!" (the more literal, but less threatening-sounding meaning is "Punk, you will be sushi!") The 'punk' that he refers to are the owner of the fish-eyes, which he associates with the fish that killed his grandfather and father.

I'm glad I finished watching this drama to the end. I was thinking about deleting it but I thought i should just finish it since I downloaded. This may not have been super popular but I think it has some charm to it plus it became pretty funny after a while. I also liked seeing Tsukasa go through his training up until the very end. The ending was completely unexpected and I think it pulled the drama together nicely. Not sure what to expect for the movie, but I'll definitely be watching it after Love Song subs it. Thanks again Love Song!

Koichi Domoto sings for "Sushi Ouji!"
Wed, January 16, 2008 (2:15pm EST)
KinKi Kids member Koichi Domoto will sing the theme song for his upcoming movie, "Ginmaku Ban Sushi Ouji! ~New York e Iku~." This is his first time providing music for a film as a solo artist.
The song is titled "No more," and it is said to have an R&B flavor to fit the movie's setting of New York. The single has not yet been given a release date.
Directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, the film is related to the "Sushi Ouji!" drama series that aired on TV Asahi last summer. It opens on April 19.

I finally got around to watching this and am in the middle of the third episode at the moment and there's just something random I had to point out [considering I'm only on the third episode -- I don't know if this is going to change later on]...
I love how Domoto Koichi's character [Tsukasa/Sushi Oji] is _ALWAYS_ wearing the same pair of camo pants.

I finally finished this drama. I watched the first ep the week it came out - and then totally stopped. I guess the first ep was a little too much for me. But, I'm glad I got around to watching all the eps. I think it gradually got better (er, either that or I got used to some of the cartoony effects). It was pretty funny... the sushi ouji pose (with the sound effect) was great.
Now I'm looking forward to the movie!

This thread needs love, from tokyograph:
The "Sushi Prince" goes to New York
Wed, April 30, 2008 (2:18am EDT)
... On Monday, Koichi Domoto attended the American premiere of the "Sushi Ouji!" movie, which was screened at the Walter Reade Theater in New York.
The city was an appropriate choice for the screening, given that the film is set in The Big Apple. The PR campaign also took advantage of the link between the city's initials and one of Domoto's catchphrases in the movie, "nigitte yaru!" (translated as "I will crush you!").
At the event, Domoto introduced himself in English by saying "I'm Sushi Prince," which was greeted with a round of applause. When asked about a possible sequel, he seemed hopeful that the film gets turned into a series. However, the film still has not been given any formal release dates outside of Japan, where it opened on April 19.

Charts: Madonna at #1 again after almost 18 years
Wed, May 7, 2008 (2:01am EDT)
Madonna's latest album, "Hard Candy," topped the Oricon charts this past week with 55,000 in sales...The soundtrack to the "Sushi Ouji!" was the only other new release in the Top 10, and it barely made the cut. Last week's #1, "Dream "A" live" by Arashi, fell to #5 while BENNIE K and Perfume kept their spots at #2 and #3, respectively.
Speaking of "Sushi Ouji!," the singles chart was led by that movie's theme song, "No more" by Koichi Domoto (released under the name of his character, Tsukasa Maizu). It sold near 111,000 copies...

However when it is, Love Song said they will probably be subbing it (the same group that did the drama).redrightankle wrote:hey I was wondering if anything new had happened with the movie status....I'm really glad that the jdrama was subbed, this whole series seems really great and interesting and i'm watching it right now! thanks whoever subbed it! man, if i knew that they were shooting it when they were i would have loved to go see it or something. are subs for the movie out there?
