Translation Request

Post by nikochanr3 » Mar 20th, '07, 15:43

http://www.ny.us.emb-japan.go.jp/jp/c/index.html

On this sheet there are two lists, first

TOP
1
2
3
4
5

SECOND
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8

Can someone translate the titles of the two lists, and give me a general idea what they are for, (specifically the first list)

Thanks!!

Thank you for your help, my penpal is light-years ahead of my textbook.

いつまでも明けぬ夜はないと宙を見上げて、
itsu ma demo wa kenuyo ha naito sora wo miagete
胸の痛み、心強くあれ。キミに捧ぐ。
mune no itami kokoro tsuyoku are kimi ni sasagu

Help interperate?

I'm clueless about the second line, but I'm reading the first line as:
look up at the eternal night sky

soyalatte,

Thank you!

I guess there isn't any pun on this?

How would you write it in Romaji?

You would write it PO-TSUMASU (The hyphen just represents a long vowel sound.)

Hope that helps!

That cap was taken from a comedy show or a variety show I guess?
Perhaps it's one of Neko Hiroshi (a Japanese comedian)'s gags.
He often tells something nonsense which most people find funny.
I don't hink it's funny at all, though... :glare:

Or if it's something to do with football, then must be Portsmouth FC!
which the japanese football player Kawaguchi once belonged to.

Thank you all! You have been very helpful =O)

soyalatte,

Actually it came from Utada Hikaru... she was telling a joke but I have no idea why it was funny. Maybe you could help? Although the interview is already really funny itself.

I didn't find it funny either! To be honest, I've never seen Neko Hiroshi telling this
joke myself, so don't quite get it.

But perhaps what's funny about that joke is I think, that Neko Hiroshi tells that
nonsense joke all of sudden, which doesn't make sense at all or logically no
connection with what he was telling before, that's why people think it's funny I guess.

Or probably what Neko Hiroshi does isn't really funny but he himself believes that
it is funny which rather puts people off, WHICH people think is funny I guess.

Not sure if you understand my explanation, but hey, it's merely a joke! don't think
it too much! :whistling:

ippatsu gyagu

Post by Genmai_cha » May 30th, '07, 19:55

Hey soyalatte!

I found someone who explained it very well. I guess it is one of those thing where you can fully translate everything since the meaning of it gets lost even if you can translate word to word.
what hikki said wasn't actually what english speakers would call a "joke" (eg: knock knock, why did the chicken cross the road etc) It was actually what japanese people here call "ippatsu gyagu", literally translated as "one-shot gag". basically its like a short catchy one line slogan that someone always says. For example when I was in middle school I would always watch wrestling. The Rock was famous for saying "If you smelllll....", Stone cold steve austin was famous for saying "Coz stone cold says so!" The only difference is that the "ippatsu gyagu" is supposed to be funny. Usually its just nonsense but somehow it cracks us up laughing because of its silliness. So basically what hikki actually did was an imitation of this guy called Nekohiroshi (neko = cat. this guy pretends to be a cat) who's famous for his one liner "Nyaa!!" and "Pootsumasu pootsumasu!" "nyaa" is the japanese equivalent of the english "meow", u know, the sound that a cat makes. "pootsumasu" on the other hand has absolutely no meaning. he just made that word up. but to us japanese speakers, it sounds funny in a silly sort of way. but due to the nature of the gag, people who become famous because of these one liners dont stay famous for long coz after a while the joke becomes stale. Nekohiroshi was popular around last autumn if im not mistaken. Havent heard from him for a while.

10 Word Translation Plzz

Post by ruisu » Oct 19th, '07, 00:56

Hi, I'm trying to karaoke something but need the translation.

うしろ指さされたって
ushiro yubi sasa retatte
振り向いたりしなかった
furimuitari shinakatta

...I also am not sure about the romaji, particularly sasa retatte & furimuitari shinakatta.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :salut:

Thanks

「後ろ指を指される」 is when people say bad things behind your back.
「振り向く」 means turn around.

I would make romaji "ushiroyubi sasaretatte"

I guess here, it's "Even when people criticized behind [his (or my, her, whatever)] back, [he] didn't change [his] opinion.

i need help with a translation, please!!

Post by saki-chan » Feb 14th, '08, 06:43

You see, i'm going to go see the Hana Yori Dango movie filming next week, and there's a slight chance i may get to meet the stars, rather than just see them. as such, i would like to say something coherent to them, but with my current Japanese skills, all i can say is "I LOVE YOU PLEASE MARRY ME!!!" which wouldn't be good. if anyone speaks japanese and can help, please please do help because translating sites don't help and i don't wanna sound like an idiot.

I'd like to say:
"Hello, my name is Sam. i'm a huge fan of yours, so it's an honor to meet you. I love Hana Yori Dango and i also love Arashi. The drama is amazing and you are all great in it. Arashi's music has helped me through a lot and it just makes me happy! If it's ok, could i please get an autograph?" Etc.
(yea yea, i know. stupid, embarassing speach, but i want it planned out so if i do get to meet them, i won't sit there drooling)

Can anyone help?

First, get ready with the paper/t-shirt or whatever you want them to sign.
Then, bow slightly and say:
"Hajimemashite, Arashi no dai fan no Sam desu. Anata ni aete hontou ni ureshii. Hana Yori dango mo Arashi mo daisuki desu. Totemo subarashii dorama desu ne. Anatatachi mo totemo subarashii to omoimasu. Arashi no ongaku ni iro iro tasukete moraimashita. Kiku to, itsumo shiawase na kibun ni narimasu. Hontou ni arigatou gozaimasu. Moshi yokattara, sain wo itadakitai n desukedo, yoroshii deshou ka. Onegaishimasu! (bow slightly here as you hand them your paper)."

Don't forget to bow slightly again and say "Arigatou gozaimasu. Ureshii!" after they signed and gave you back the paper. It will be nice to end it with "Ganbatte kudasai ne!! Itsumo oen shimasu kara!"

You can try to shake their hands too, though I am not sure they are accustomed to hand-shaking.
You can also pass them a nice little present. (chocolates? It's near Valentine Day anyway).

Good luck!
PS: I tried to simplify and make it as short as possible so it won't be too difficult to memorize.

"siantut", you are so generous to help "saki-chan" for the Japanese speech., I wish I had the talents or atleast the linguistic tongue to learn Japanese (or nihonggo?). bow..

-Just droppin' by to say that, you two inspired me.. Bless you! =)-
