Stream Japanese TV on your computer with KeyHoleTV
KeyHoleTV is a Windows and Linux P2PTV application that broadcasts all the regular Japanese TV channels (with the exception of NHK) and the occasional American channel, webcam, or whatever random thing that might pop up. With this program, you can stream Japanese channels in real-time. The quality of the audio and video isn't that great, unfortunately. The sound can be downright terrible, especially when music performances or loud audiences are involved. But overall, it's decent enough to hold us over until the show is uploaded or a better-quality alternative comes along.
To install, go to http://www.v2p.jp/video/Viewer/ and download the latest installation file. It's updated somewhat often, so you may want to check back now and again.
The program is simple and pretty self-explanatory. To watch a channel, double-click the channel you want under the Program tab and you are set.
Double-clicking on the viewing screen opens up a separate viewing window, which may be resized by dragging the corners with your mouse or by using the keyboard's arrow keys. (The arrow keys keeps the size proportionate.)
Channel Listing: (frequently updated - current as of August 24, 2008)
Here's a little guide for identifying the channels -- find the channel by using the names/labels.
= Fuji TV
= NTV
= TBS
= TV Asahi
= TV Tokyo

Translations
Someone asked so here's the breakdown:
東京中心 = Tokyo Chuushin = Tokyo Centered
こちらも東京地方 = Kochira mo Tokyo Chihou = This is also Tokyo Region
こちらも関東地方 = Kochira mo Kantou Chihou = This is also Kantou Region
関東地方 = Kantou Chihou = Kantou Region
東京エリア = Tokyo Area
関東エリア = Kantou Area
Aside from these, there are some peculiar ones like "りさチャン 女優のタマゴ石本梨紗" translating as "Risa-chan, The egg of Actresses, Ishimoto Risa" (egg of "blank" is an idiom meaning "rising ---" or "future ---" or "future, big ---") but nothing like the above awesome channels. Thanks for the post! -TJ

Updated the first post to add a new channel to the listing.
SoccerNSax09, thanks for the explanation! I guess they're just another way to state the region. Ishimoto Risa's channel is a webcam stream, and there's another one where she's doing interviews. There was one time when I opened her webcam and she sent me a message! I couldn't reply, so I just typed a smiley and quickly clicked out of there. People who use the KeyHoleVideo software can broadcast their own channels.
Lynn Minmei, sorry, I don't think it works on Win2K. I just tested it with Win98 and Win2K and it gives the same errors.
aso0omy-chan, if you could find that website, that would be great! It'd be useful to those who can't run the program.

Thanx!!! This really works! Saw the guy who played the ghost boy in Hana Kimi (he was so kawaii ) showing his house. But didn't watched it entirely bc it got out of signal . I gotta thank my dog for waking me up now, looooool (even if I was tired) and see ghost boy minutes later hehe.
Anyway, I'm gonna see Shun's new drama there, hehehe.

Damn, I didn't watched that part, looool. But loved the ending of the show, when he was playing some game with some wires. Everyone was tense seeing if he's going to get it done. His expressions were so cute while playing there.wing_goddess wrote:i watched the exact same thing! Yusuke is adorable. Right now, Binbou Danshi is on!!! It is funny, I'm loving this, hehe.

Lynn Minmei, if you haven't set up a virtual machine yet, you can try the solution on KHTV's FAQ page. It looks like the program does work with Win2K, but some components need to be installed first.Lynn Minmei wrote:thanks for the info. now i need to create a virtual machine for winxp.
dhanix, is it working for you yet? Sometimes the picture will become distorted but will be fine again if you stop the video and open the channel again.dhanix wrote:Hello, I downloaded the program and I can hear the shows perfectly, but the image is just not there...like, I get an image, but it's really weird and you can't even make it out to what it is.........can anyone help me?
Not as far as I know. It's just a matter of watching the channel until you get a logo or website. NHK doesn't seem to be a permanent fixture of the lineup, though.mjmsisco wrote:Thanks!

Like the previous responders said, either close and reopen it or keep clicking the ONLINE/OFFLINE button until it logs in.dokodemodoa wrote:login timed out...

I just checked if the channel listing had been changed. Dashling's channel list is still right except some channels had added.

I think there is one channel with her interview, and one channel showing her live at her work. I was talking to her last night on the one with her live at work, she just sits there not saying anything. I dont know what her job is i tried to find out. :SChrono wrote:That's just my impression or the interview with the actress Risa Ishimoto is be airing all day?
oooh 5:00 AM is totally fine--in the next few hours you wiill any news of the day...I enjoy it...but I guess the best time for watching is in the morning and in the evening...but anyhow I never have luck with evening since I had to watch during lunch...and I am not available often at lunch...time difference is hard sometimes ;_;"

For anyone who's getting a warped picture: Try setting the monitor display to 32-bit color. Right-click on the Desktop -> Properties -> Settings. Good luck!hgwack wrote:Hi. Seems pretty safe, so there's probably no need to worry about viruses. It's best to get the updates from the official website and not anywhere else. And yes, it does depend on Internet speed. Since it's based on P2P, the better your connection and bandwidth, the better the result should be.r3ika wrote:thank u for this!! btw, does this program block viruses & threats? & depend on the internet speed? coz i cant see the video but i can hear the sound.. is it bcoz i download a lot & a lot of kbps wer used? thanks!!
You may need need to install the East Asian Languages Pack on your system. To check if it's installed, go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab and see if the "Install files for East Asian languages" box is checked. If not, click it and it'll prompt you for the Windows installation CD. Better instructions can be found at http://www.coscom.co.jp/help3/jpfont/jpfont.html (Step 1).heartangel103 wrote:hello! so far i've downloaded the program. unfortunately, the kanji characters won't show thus i have a problem which channel is which. can anyone help me with my problem? i can't understand why i am having this problem because when i visit other websites with japanese characters (using internet explorer), i have no problems and they show up. any ideas? thanks!
There are other programs that have a bunch of Asian channels, like PPStream or TVAnts. Is there any place where I can know that?
