Boys Before Flowers (KBS2) Korean version of "Meteor Ga

Post by guccijana » Feb 29th, '08, 19:23

Famous Japanese comic "Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden" was made into a drama with Japanese version and Taiwanese version, and both became very popular. Therefore, Korea is preparing to make a version of its own, and there is an online poll for chosing the casts of the drama!

There are a lot of anticipations for KBS2 version of "Meteor Garden ". The station is recruiting actors for the drama, and they schedule to air this drama around middle of 2008. While the station is planning for the advertising of this drama, netizens conduct their own poll to select the cast members. Some people think Go Hye Sung in “King And I” is the best actress to play the role of Shan Cai (the main female role) while others think that Yoon Eun Hye is more adequate for this role.

For the male role, netizens think Im Joo Hwan (the supporting actor in Snow Queen) is fit to portray Hua Ze Lei. Others pick Choi Si won, Jang Geun Suk, Jung Kyung Ho, and Lee Min Ki to play the role of either Xi Men or Mei Zuo. As for the main actor of the drama, Dao Ming Si, the most votes go to Jo In Sung (he did a commercial with Go Hye Sun awhile ago). The rest of the votes go to Kang Dong Won, Lee Dong Gun, Jang Hyuk, and Hyun Bin.

Anyway I'm really excited about the Korean version of Hana Yori dango!!!
So i was wondering who you guys would pick for the cast, and who you wouldn't want in the as the f2 and tsukusi..

here is my F4 Korean Dream Cast
Tsukushi Makino--Lee Soo Kyung,Yoo In Young,?? I have no idea!!! (but plss no Yoon Eun Hye)

Tsukasa Domyouji --Lee Min Ki,

Rui Hanazawa--Hyun Bin

Sojiro Nishikado--Jung Kyung Ho

Akira Mimasaka--Kim Ji Suk

I cant wait-- I hope its as good or better than the Taiwanese and Japaneses version..

More on Korean HanaDan/Meteor Garden here . . .

http://www.dramabeans.com/2008/02/boys- ... ori-dango/

Worth pointing out that Group Eight is production this. I thought, in terms of production quality and music, Goong S was very good, and I'd expect them to put on a good show.

And, uhm, they kinda have to. Meteor Garden launched the idol drama in Taiwan. HanaDan is virtually a franchise in Japan. But, all this time -- ALL this time since I've first read HanaDan -- I've always envisioned it as a K-drama. It's got

1) Cinderella story
2) Arrogant, bad-tempered "chaebol"
3) Evil mom
4) One rival who was obsessed with plastic surgery (HELLO Korea!!!)

In any case, they should case really young. For example, Kang Ji Hwang was born -- BORN -- to play Domyouji, but he's already 30 and is way too old now to play him. Hyung Bin and Lee Jung Ki would have been perfect for F4 roles a few years ago, but they're both WAY too high profile now. My take . . .

Domyouji -- Lee Min Ki

The big problem with Lee Min Ki is that he resembles MatsuJun a lot, and may get lots of comparisons. But he would easily, easily nail down the mix of arrogance, comedy, and bits of dramatic acting needed to play Domyouji. He's perfect for the part.

Rui -- Jang Gang Suk

JGS looks and sounds like a young Song Gil G*** (Jumong) with perfect skin. He's gorgeous, very cool, and just perfect for the part.

Sojiro -- Kim Ki Bum

Akira -- Kim Ji Suk

And who should play Makino?

This is the PERFECT Park Shin Hye part. She's the right age, she has the chops, she definitely has the attitude, and she's worked for Group Eight before. She's perfect.

@belleza--ohh wow so group eight is producing it--that sounds good..
ALL this time since I've first read HanaDan -- I've always envisioned it as a K-drama.
hehe you took the words right out of my mouth--I've always wanted to see it as a K-drama too (even though I liked MG ad HYD--I still wanted to see it as a Kdrama..

also great pick for makino--I didn't think of Park Shin Hye--but she does have the right attitude and wittiness that would portray Makino perfectly...

I really wish that Lee Min Ki will play Domyouji-he has the right acting ability and great looks-- (plus i think he is way more handsome than matsJun)

Ohh i cant wait to see who they actually pick!! i Just hope it will be original and not dragging!!!

Personally, I'm also looking forward to HanaDan Mania, Part 3 over here at D-addicts. :D I'm a really hardcore fan, and I wasn't completely happy about how the
hehe you took the words right out of my mouth--I've always wanted to see it as a K-drama too (even though I liked MG ad HYD--I still wanted to see it as a Kdrama..
Yeah, especially season 2 of HanaDan, it was written like the 2nd half of K-drama. Not a lot of plot, but a lot of crying! :D

It has "best of both worlds" written all over it. You'll get the length of Meteor Garden (so everything is properly paced), but the production quality of HYD. Also, the overall acting is going to be much, much higher quality.
@belleza--ohh wow so group eight is producing it--that sounds good..
The thing with the original HanaDan j-drama was that it was among the most expensive J-dramas ever done, per episode. The location shoots and sets, the stylish MTV cuts, and so on.

For that reason, Group Eight is really an ideal match, because they'll produce the show entirely before it airs. That means that in terms of look and editing, it'll have a film-like polish to it. I loved the soft color palette and cinematography they used in Goong S (a big step from the original Goong show.) It's really not a stretch for them to do "Lovers in Paris/Prague"-style location shoots among the mansions and most scenic areas in Korean, you know?

Key thing is that K-dramas like this one are going to have their eyes set on the international market. Because K-drama budgets have just exploded in the last 4 years, this is going to look more impressive than the other versions. I'm not sure if it'll be a better show, though. The starring cast of HanaDan have a unique bond, and in a way, HanaDan really did become the MatsuShunMao show. Rarely you see that kind of comraderie except among people within the same JE group.

That said, HanaDan is a natural, natural K-drama. Adapting Nodame or Nobuta would be hard; those are uniquely suited for J-drama. But, almost every element in HanaDan that people love are part of the normal K-drama playbook. In an ideal world, you'd have Kamio-sensei and the Hong Sisters working together on this project. The K-drama world would melt down if this happened.
also great pick for makino--I didn't think of Park Shin Hye--but she does have the right attitude and wittiness that would portray Makino perfectly...
I think I could pick any actor and "reage" them, my first choice for Makino would be Han Ji Hye, then Lee Yo Won, then Im Ju Sung. Doumyoji would be played by Kwon Sang Woo, Kang Ji Hwan, or Hyung Bin. Rui would be played by Jo In Sung, Lee Jung Ki, Hyung Bin, or Jo Ji Hoon, in that order.

But I thought about this some more, and I think the right person for the role would be BoA.

This will be the third adaptation of the franchise. Both MG and HYD were huge successes in their countries. For Korea to come out with their version of HanaDan is a game of national one-upmanship. It's Korea saying "yeah, we like your versions. we can do it better!!! WE are the king of drama!" For that reason, you need to bring in somebody so famous, so international, who has fans in China, Japan, and Taiwan. That person could be YEH, but this project just screams out for BoA.

Sooner or later, BoA is going to do a drama project. She was originally going to do Goong. This would be bigger than Goong. This would have much higher expectations than Goong. This would be bigger than Full House. This would not only continue her reign as one of Asia's pop princesses, but it would have an effect of Hallyu all over Asia, just as next generation shows like Coffee Prince and Hong Gil Dong are showing.

I just hope the producers work harder and don't try to cast YEH. Yes, she could do the part just fine, but she's already done this type of role many times over, and she already has Goong. Share the wealth people!

When I first heard about a Korean version of Hana Yori Dango I thought "Another one?!" I watched Meteor Garden first which I liked a lot, then I saw HYD and thought it was cute and beautifully shot, but not nearly as good as the Taiwanese version. You're right; the plot has K-Drama written all over it, but I a 3rd HYD would be a bit excessive.

All this talk about casting, however, is making me excited. I'll definitely watch this to see how Korea's actors transform into Domyouji, Makino, and my favorite, Hanazawa Rui.

BTW, there are some rumors on soompi about Kim Byul (Taereung National Village) being the female lead. The rest of the (rumored) cast looks like a bunch of random ulzzangs. I don't know where this information originated from.

Hyun Bin as Hanazawa Rui??!!!

I don't know how I feel about a third version of "HanaDan" but I'll watch it for Hyun Bin even if I have to force myself...and also that other dude who was in "MiSa" with SJS, Jung Kyung Ho ~

I'm also a fan of MinKi but he doesn't look much like a Doumouyji type :lol

Hmm.. so far I've only watched both seasons of Hana Yori Dango and attempted to watch Meteor Garden but stopped and no idea what episode I'm on.

Hopeufully this will be as good as the Japanese version but have a bit of it's own unique style. I like Fantasy Couple and Goong S was quite good so I'm excited for this ^^

I think they should choose the cast from a less known actors and actresses so that'll be refreshing and surprise us. If it's someone really popular and famous then... too many of us are familiar with them and might not see them as F4 and Makino in their roles.

Hana Yori Dango the movie is coming out this summer so... it might collide, I don't mind watching this at the end of the year though :]

Yeah, personally, I'd rather see a Japanese or Korean version of Mars (which would get me seriously geeked.) And, admittedly, I think this sounds like quiet desperation from KBS2, who have for some reason been heavily targetting the teen market even though the ratings have not been good. I mean, could we really see SBS sign up for KHYD?
The rest of the (rumored) cast looks like a bunch of random ulzzangs. I don't know where this information originated from.
My hope is that they don't cast a bunch of ulzzangs and lower-rung idol actors (i.e. that fat guy from Suju, for example.) I don't think people actually want to see Hana Yori Dango S, you know?

What would be really cool is if they pulled a Meteor Garden and moved the show to college. Then, now, you seriously open up your casting call.

In any case, they're saying that they won't cast based on popularity. The Netizen poll lists as follows:

Makino
1) Yoon Eun Hye
2) Goo Hye Sun
3) Sung Yuri
4) Moon Geun Young
5) Go Ah Ra
6) Kim Ok Bin
7) Lee Yeon Hee
8) Park Min Young
9) Jeon Ryeo Won
10) Lee Ha Na
11) Han Ji Min

Goo Hye Sun would be very good in this role, but after being the lead in The King + I, would it be a step down? Same with Han Ji Min and YEH. Go Ah Ra would be good in this part, and she's still a newcomer. Lee Ha Na and Jeon Ryo Won are too old for the part. Yet, old woman Sung Yuri could plausibly play Makino. I guess.

Moon Geun Young, Lee Yeon Hee, Kim Ok Bin, and Park Min Young are all most viable choices IMO.

Doumyouji
1) Jo In Sung
2) Kang Dong Won
3) Lee Dong Gun
4) Jang Hyuk
5) Hyun Bin
6) Joo Ji Hoon
7) Lee Dong g**k

Sorry, Jo In Sung would make a BAD BAD BAD Tsukasa. Kang Dong Won is too old for this part, and his image doesn't jibe. I think Lee Dong Gun would be okay in this part (and it would be REALLY interesting anyway to follow LDG after his breakup with HJH.) A younger Jang Hyuk would be excellent -- actually his temperament is exactly like Tsukasa's -- but he's WAY too old for the part. Jo Ji Hoon would be good; he lacks the fire, but the arrogance is no problem.

But Hyun Bin is by far -- BY FAR -- the best of this list. He'd just do Sam Shik and that would work, right?

Rui
1) Im Joo Hwan
2) Choi Si Won
3) Jang Geun Seuk
4) Kim Hee Chul
5) Kim Kibum
6) Han Kyung
7) Lee Hong Gi

OMG, Kim Hee Chul would be PERFECT for the part.

^holy crap, I am soooooooo down for Jo In Sung as Doumouyji Tsukasa~! He has already played the rich, arrogant, and immature young man down to a tee in "What Happened in Bali"~ Only problem is, I don't think I'm ready to see him act like a teenager this time around, an office director yes, but as a 15 year old, not really.

As for the netizens' popular candidate for Rui, I'm surprised Si Won's at #2. It's kind of hard for me to imagine him w/o that bright smile of his. It's all the influence of SuJu that I can't picture him as the shy introverted Hanazawa Rui. but I might have contradicted myself since he played the cool and young Kang Bong-man just fine in "18:29".

[edit]
and I agree, I'm all ready to see "Mars" dramatized/in live-action again.....but preferably in Japanese first.

His build is too slight for the part. MatsuJun pulled it off, but well Japanese aren't exactly anyway! ;)

Apparently, rumors are circulating that TOP may be a candidate for Doumyouji. Uhm . . . NO!!! :D WAY too pretty for the role.

But, then again, if you sign up TOP, you might as well sign up Park Ming Young too.

I thought the F4 boys were supposed to be pretty XD As for Park Ming Young, I don't think I've heard of him....

and I didn't even know that members of Big Bang could act, though I have read news from AsianFanatics that Seung Ri is going into theatrics this year.

I call it the Rui Principle. Basically, Rui must be twice as pretty as Doumyouji. If Douymoji is almost as pretty as Rui, then Rui cannot be Rui.

The Rui Principle states that Jo In Sun cannot be Doumyouji. Because there are no male actors twice as pretty as In Sun. Likewise, if you cast TOP as Doumyouji, you'll need to find an actor who's prettier than Ki Bum and Jang Seuk combined. Unfortunately, casting Lee Jung Ki is not enough unless he wears makeup as Rui.

HOWEVER, if you cast TOP as Rui (uhm, Gangsta Rui?), then you have freedom!
As for Park Ming Young, I don't think I've heard of him....
Oh I meant the actress from Park Min Young, from I Am Sam. She and TOP played off each other in that show.

Yeah, I think some people are talking about HYD being a kind of Banjun drama, starring members of Suju, DBSK, etc.

I could definitely see Park Min Young as Makino. Her and Hyun Bin? Not bad, not bad.
I could also see Sung Yuri do it. But I'm not a huge fan of her "cute" acting. Go Ara would be nice, but she's a tad too pretty.

And why so many SuJu members on the Rui list? Heechul, maybe. But Si Won's too smiley and Ki Bum's too cheek-pinching adorable.

I'm interested in seeing who they cast as Sakurako also. Someone tall and gorgeous I hope. Lee Da Hae?

Oh, I hope LDH doesn't take that role. That would just scream "my career!! what happened to my career!!!" :D

I could see Yoo In Young (Sua in Likable or Not) in Sakurako's role. I mean, everybody in Korea hates Sua anyway, why quit the habit?

But the best actress for the role is 200 Lbs Beauty Kim Ah Joong. I mean, the irony just writes itself!! :D

LDH could always play Tsubaki. :-)

K-drama version of HYD huh. (Someone should really do Mars). I just hope they don't fill the cast with boy band boys. I would say LDW is a good fit for Rui if he was younger that is.

as much as I like YEH, i have to say no for her to be cast as makino tsukushi. i mean, shin chae-gyong is the korean tsukushi, and two is just too many in this case. it's like if japan decided to remake coffee prince they cast horikita maki to be go eun-chan. :roll HYD probably will be the launching pad for newer actress as goong did YEH.

same goes to the male casts: Jo In Sung, Joo Ji Hoon, Lee Dong Gun, Hyun Bin, Kang Dong Won etc.. they're all too seasoned/refined to be playing stupid, selfish, self-centered Domyoji. someone younger would be a better choice.

btw here's my choice of casts:

makino tsukushi = go ah ra or or moon geun young or lee yeon hee or heo yi jae
domyoji tsukasa = kim heechul or TOP or kibum
hanazawa rui = hero jaejoong *sniffs*
nishikado sojiro = any flower boys is OK =D
mimasaka akira = so do this one

i also don't mind if they cast idols/boyband members... they provide eye-candy, ne...

I think Maki would make a horrible eun chan. She is perfect for Mizuki because Mizuki was very much a feminine girl and Maki is very like Mizuki in looks and in character. But Eun Chan is a complete tomboy and i can't imagine maki in that. I don't think Maki could pull it off. Besides, she's too pretty to be Eun Chan and to be mistaken as a boy. It only worked in Hanakimi because people kept thinking she looked like a girl.

I am so excited about the korean version. But I doubt anyone could beat the Japanese cast. As long as they find people who can act decently then i'[ll be happy. Inoue Mao was the perfect Makino. And she had excellent chemistry with the rest of the cast.

I don't know... I have been waiting for HYD to be made into korean TV for sooo long, and I'm glad, but at the same time it feels a bit rushed. I mean, the HYD movie is coming out this summer and then we'll have another drama?

Feels like we're being fed with whipped creamed non stop. I mean, couldn't they wait at least a year or two until the HYD phenomenon has been forgotten... and then SMASH hit us like a bomb..."BIG NEWS! Korean version of HYD!!"...

That Lee Min guy is really handsome, god. I can agree that he looks like MatsuJun but that won't be a problem I think....You already compare them as it is....I prefer Zai Zai as Rui for example.

My Choices:
Jung Il Woo - Tsukasa
Park Min Young - Makino
Jang Geun Suk - Rui
Kim Jae Wook - Soujiro
Akira - Kim Ji Suk

As much as I like them, I really hope Suju, DBSK, Big Bang etc won't be casted :x

^I don't know.......the members of Dong Bang have proven to be more than just okay actors.

I can't say the same for Big Bang since I have yet to see them act in any filmography. As for SuJu, I would like to see HeeChul take on the role of Rui.....and I just want to see Siwon act period, even if he wasn't casted as any of the primary characters. <3

I agree with what you posted. I so hope that if they do a new version of Hana Yori Dango that has some original elements. They could change the story around to them being in either High school or College. For example, if they go the High school route then they should make some changes, have Domyoji Tsukasa being raised by his sister Domyoji Tsubaki. Have Makino Tsukushi dad work for Domyoji company to create more drama and her mom have some kind of illness that makes Makino have to take extra jobs to help her family out. Thus, another new reason of why she puts up of with the bullying at her school. There is so many ways they could play with the high school scenario.

I think though they might in the end just follow the manga word for word. If that happens we can all skip the korean version and watch Meteor Garden again.

These are my fave picks to get casted:
PARK MIN YOUNG as Makino: She's absolutely perfect for the role imho. She has just enough cuteness and spunk for the role of Makino :) She played the high school role inI Am Sam really well. The only bad thing that I can think of her getting casted is that it's not really providing her with a versatile role to display her acting skills since it would be very similar to her previous roles in I Am Sam and High Kick.

LEE MIN KI as Domyoji: He's a great actor and was great in Dalja's Spring and I Really Really Like You. Plus, he even looks like Domyoji =) and he's a relatively new face to international K-Drama fans, so this role would provide him with his platform for international stardom! haha
Image

JANG GEUN SUK as Rui. He's a good actor and has that sweetness to him that Rui's role needs. Plus he's a pretty boy and Rui's role should be prettier than the male leads :)

I think they look a bit too old, I mean they're supposed to be around 17, 18 or in their 20's if they're gonna make it College. The girl was really cute though.

I truly respect Yoon Eun Hye for taking roles different from the super cute/gurly, pretty looking, " Oppaaa"/"Ajushiiiiii" screaming stereotype (with or without terminal disease) :salut: .But I don't want her in this.I want someone new and different. However, I doubt my wish will be granted because she is obviously very popular and everybody wants her.Viewers and sponsors above all.
I don't really care about the boys as long as they cast believable Tsukasa and Rui, who have good chemistry with the female lead. This is my favorite manga/drama love triangle and I dont want bad casting to ruin it for me. :x
Anyway, whoever they cast eye candy is guaranteed..Which is wonderful because if this show drags over 20 episodes (and I know it will) at least I'll watch pretty boys when it gets boring :D .

I personally think that Lee Jun Ki would make a perfect Rui. Though he is a bit too old still he had a high school riole in a movie Virgin Snow... He is just pertty enough to be Rui though I prefet Rui with light hair color, maybe not blonde but orange or something and I think Jun Ki wouldn't look that good with orange hair. xD

In my opinion most of the actresses/actors mentioned on the list are a bit too old. For example Kang Dong Won on second place for Tsukasa's role... come on! I love HYD manga and I think that the plot is just dramatic enough for a Korean darma^^ I also hope they would change the ending a bit to something not so open.

Here's my dream cast for Meteor Garden (k-version)

Dao Ming Sz - Hyun Bin
Hua Tse Lei - Seo Do Young (he did so well in Spring Waltz) or Lee Dong Wook
Xi Men - Shin Dong Wook
Mei Zuo - Lee Minki or Lee Junki (he kindda looks like vaness)

as for Shan Cai's role - Yoon Eun Hye is an option though it would also be nice to see a fresh new face for this role :) Whatever the case, I hope they won't put young boys in the cast. I would really appreciate if they casted actors in the same age range as above (like what they did in Meteor Garden).

I call it the Rui Principle. Basically, Rui must be twice as pretty as Doumyouji. If Douymoji is almost as pretty as Rui, then Rui cannot be Rui.
I agree 100% rui has to be top-notch handsome, if he's not than people would get annoyed when there are Rui-Tsukushi moments that made some people choose rui over Tsukasa to be with Tsukuski.. the more I think about it the more i want FRESH new FACES--that are chosen for their acting abilities and look the part rather than popularity--because if it was up to the people Yoon Eun Hye whould be getting the role of Tsukusi--and if that happened I would just shoot myself.. good work on this one! now that you came up with this... i'm liking this line-up if we're going for a younger-looking cast. good choice in adding park ki-woong. nice line-up... 8)

i thought this was a joke!!...hahahaha...but since it's not...i'm REALLY interested in how it turns out...haha...hopefully the 3rd time IS a charm...but neways...i like YEH a lot too...there hasn't been a show that she did that i didn't like...but i don't want her to be casted in this role...i hope it'll be a face that isn't as popular at the moment...
I call it the Rui Principle. Basically, Rui must be twice as pretty as Doumyouji. If Douymoji is almost as pretty as Rui, then Rui cannot be Rui.
and i totally agree with the "rui principle"...hahahaha...rui has that quality that makes you LOVE him and wish that he was the one who ends up with the main girl...it's like kim jung hoon's character in goong...cept way before he turned evil...-_-"...but anyways...someone really good lookng and can pull off that snobbish look in one moment but very gentle the next without having to change much =)...all i wish for is that the main girl has REALLY good chemistry with both guys who are going to be playing domyouji and rui

guccijana wrote:Famous Japanese comic "Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden" was made into a drama with Japanese version and Taiwanese version, and both became very popular.

Holy crap , I didn't read this and stated that I wanted so bad for Lee Min Ki to be Domyouji. The cast listed here is perfect. =0

I'm such a big HANADAN fan and this news surprised me a lot. I saw Meteor garden and Hana Yori Dango, their complete seasons. Hana Yori Dango just tops my list as my most fave drama along with my girl. so i hope this drama would also be a good one and i hope it wouldn't be that long. Also, they can add some twists in the story to make it really good or something..

Anyway, does anyone know when it will be out?[/b]

@mittens-- they schedule to air this drama around middle of 2008--

Some people mentioned that these actor/actress' are too old--I disagree, LMK can totally pull of the high school look (if thats what the producers are going for).. BUT-- I really hope that instead of a High school theme they would move it up to College and than all the actors mentioned here would fit the part A OK>.... So we'll have to be patient and see how it turned out...

IM JU HWAN! Definitely my choice for Rui. Him and no other xD

Tsukasa, I don't care as much, although I'd love if they casted Lee Min Ki. He can definitely pull it off!
>__>;; How old is Hyun Bin again?

I honestly don't see what's the fuss about Yoon Eun Hye
She's obviously a very talented actress...
Does everyone just not like her cuz she's popular? I don't get it >_<;;

And please don't make this into a boy band drama T_T
Meaning, no DBSK/Suju/Big Bang/FT Island or anything else xD

same JE Group? Oguri Shun's not in JE, but MatsuJun is from Arashi >__<;;
Adapting Nodame or Nobuta would be hard; those are uniquely suited for J-drama.
You just made me laugh so hard. I don't think any kdrama could pull off Nodame or Nobuta. Tamaki, Shuuji to Akira and Maki-chan are irreplacable xD
It makes sense, but I'd hope not BoA. Please T_T

no you are right. LDG is enlisted for the military this year. the last project he'll be working on (currently working on) is "The Runaway Turtle"~

and sorry to be off-topic, but it's true, there are some jdramas that can only strictly stay as jdramas. and to be honest, i don't even want to see "Nodame Cantabile" or "Nobuta wo Produce" remade into either a TDrama or a Kdrama.

As long as they buy the rights it everything is fair game. This is why mangas are usually done by all countries... they can all easily buy manga story rights.

Im not too sure about a remake.
With the jversion about to release a ending movie
they've got some major competition.
from what ive read of this, its pretty much a battle for who ppl want to act as the characters.
I kinda doubt that suju or DBSK are gonna be in it cuz their way to busy with their tours.
Instead of popular celebs, i think they should bring out some noobs.

<<Hana>> Korean version

MorningPost news - After Chinese Taiwan and Japan, there will be a Kdrama adaption of the drama <<Hana>>. This has since grabbed the attentions of the Southeast Asia audiences. The netizens have also started casting their votes for their preferred choice for the roles of Makino Tsukushi & Doumyouji Tsukasa.

About 38% of the netizens feel that Yoon Eun Hye is most suitable for the role of Makino Tsukushi. There are approx. 19000 cast votes supporting YEH, this is taken up to the time this reporter hands in his news script. The netizens favour YEH becos of her previous popularized TV drama series, <<Goong>> & <<Coffee>> which are also based on manga and most important, the similarity of YEH's personality & background with Makino. But since <<Hana>>'s production team is Group Eight which was previously involved in a lawsuit with the production team of <<Goong>> while filming <<Goong>>, thus, some from the industry feel that YEH might not be favoured in this aspect. 2nd in line will be Song Hye Kyo who has a support rate of 25.5%.

The No.1 choice for the role of Doumyouji Tsukasa by netizens is Hyun Bin from <<My>>, receiving a total cast votes of 10249 with a support rate of 24.28%. 2nd choice is Rain who gets 9048 votes with the support rate of 21.48%. The 1st choice for the role of Hanazawa Rui goes to Super Junior's Han Geng who receives a high support rate of 36.26%. <Goong>>'s Prince Yul, Kim Jeong Hoon has the 2nd highest support rate of 32.84%.

This Kdrama version of <<Hana>> is set for a 24-episode run with 70 mins per chapter, aiming for the airdate in latter half of 2008.

Yoon Eun Hye is the No1 candidate for the character Shan Cai in Meteor Garden Korean version

Korea will make a film that was based on a famous manga Meteor Garden. That news has provoked tumults on the websites from few days ago.

People are curious most about is who will be the female leading-role. A few sites organized polls and as the result, the actors Jo In Sung, Hyun Bin, and Kang Dong Won took the lead of the people who had the most votes to be the male leading-role Dao Ming Si.

For the female character Shan Cai, Yoon Eun Hye is the first choice of netizens. Yoon Eun Hye was being famous from the drama Goong which was based on a comic book. The netizens was unanimous to think that she is the most suitable for Shan Cai's image. Besides, the brightly and lovely appearance of Han Ji Min and Lee Ha Na also received the netizens's support.

For the enthusiasms of audiences to the drama, production company Group 8 said "We will think about inviting famous stars or also people that have never appeared before. We must see whether or not the actors/actresses are suitable with the characters; we do not care much about their fame level."

Meteor Garden Korean version will be produced by Group 8 company which has been produced the dramas Goong S and Fantasy Couple. “Meteor Garden” may have 24 episodes and will present to Korean audiences at the end of the year 2008.

Tsukushi: Kim Ok Bin because i think she can portray a girl who is sarcastic, serious, independant and sassy

Tsukasa: Jo In Sung because i can imagine him portraying an eccentric, idiotic and extreme guy. The only problem is his hear, he needs to grow his hair

Rui: Hyun Bin because i think he would do well as a complicated introvert

I was just wondering but... is it the first time a drama will be having a taiwanese, japanese and korean version ?

I thinks it's good because each country have their specialities :) personally, I enjoyed both the tw and jp version of hanadan, can't wait to see the korean!

btw, anybody know when it's gonna be aired ?

it looks like i have slightly different opinions from most of you here ...

TW version - meteor garden was what got me hooked on asian dramas however i can't stand the length of the series ... i just feel that it drags on too long ... i skipped quite a few scenes in the middle and it was quite a satisfying ending though the second season totally kills the series ...

JP version - most people i know love the JP version but again i was barely able to finish it ... i skipped quite a few parts of the first season (i watched all the scenes with rui in it but the rest i just fast forward) ... i did finish the second season and i personally think that the second season is better than the first one ...

JP anime version - this one i totally love ... the drawings aren't that good but i really really like the anime ... when i watched the anime i really cannot decide whether i want makino to end up with tsukasa or with rui ... and i think i finished the entire series in 2 days :lol

now moving on to KR version - hopefully it'll be an enjoyable one ... and i don't really care who are casted in it although im ju hwan as rui is perfect in my opinion ... the only thing is that in snow queen he didn't get the girl ...! and here as rui he wouldn't get the girl again!! and in my opinion he's just too sweet to not get the girl twice!!!! i do agree though that i wish it's not YEH who is casted as makino ... i really want a fresh face so that hopefully this can be a breakthrough series for the new actors and actress ...

yea new faces would be good but popular faces are always better for the ratting and prom... I mean look at both japanese version and taiwanese version : most of the ppl have watched it for matsujun/shun (matsuda shota<3) and it's the same with the tw version, most of the ppl have watched it for f4

I keep reading the comments , I still think that Lee Min Ki is Domyouji w/o trying. I mean no one will beat Matsujun as his character , but I think LJK could pull it off easily. Dal Ja and Evasive Inquiry Agency are good examples of serious/sillyness.

As for Makino , I would like to see That chick from I am sam ( I can't remember her name ). She looks like she would be really good as Makino. Eun Hye is obviously my top , but who knows , I'm sure she is busy.

We were throwing around the Idea of Oh Ji Ho being Akira. He always looks like he's 40 anyways. My original want was Ryu So Young.

I agree Joo Ji Hoon would be a good , a really choice for Rui. I honestly don't like Rui's character , but he does need to look better then domyouji. Or Yoo Gun. I think he would be good as Rui too.

Sojiro , hmm , anyone could really play him , but I'd vote for Kim Jae Wook.

Yuki , hmm , I've always liked Lee Ji Ah since legend. Or Sung Yu Ri from HGD.

There are so many choices , if they base it more off the JP version , I'd be happier. MG was alright , but I got tired of it really fast , as where the JP version was just O_O~ most of the time. The Anime was alright , but the Manga and the JP LA is what got me to be a rabid HYD fan.

<<Hana>> Korean version

The No.1 choice for the role of Doumyouji Tsukasa by netizens is Hyun Bin from <<My>>, receiving a total cast votes of 10249 with a support rate of 24.28%. 2nd choice is Rain who gets 9048 votes with the support rate of 21.48%. The 1st choice for the role of Hanazawa Rui goes to Super Junior's Han Geng who receives a high support rate of 36.26%. <Goong>>'s Prince Yul, Kim Jeong Hoon has the 2nd highest support rate of 32.84%.

What I'm thinking is WHOA if Han Geng gets picked.
I lovelovelove that boy, but does he know enough Korean? >__<;;

WOW!

Lee Min Ki and Joo Ji Hoon in the same drama?????

Ahhh, that would be hilarious!!!!!

But if this was "true" then Kim Jung Hoon would be much better for Rui and JJH for Soujiroh...

... and in this case YHE would be a perfect match with her personality for Makino... :)

Lol, today I stumbled upon a clip of Lee Min Ki in X-Man. He was sooooo awkward! :lol :lol

Now I'm thinking, making him the cold, nasty and weirdly stupid Domyoji... It's either ingenious or a complete disaster, I can't decide! :-)

nope. "White Tower" originated from a Japanese manga and it has since been made into a Korean and Taiwanese drama

They should cast Yoon Eun Hye as makino, and the prince from goong as domyoji, and the other prince yul guy as rui. That would make it really good! They could fight over her all over again!

I mean look at both japanese version and taiwanese version : most of the ppl have watched it for matsujun/shun (matsuda shota<3) and it's the same with the tw version, most of the ppl have watched it for f4
actually, the members of F4 were unknown to the public when they were casted. without meteor garden, nobody would even recognize them.

I'm looking forward to this, even though I'm not big fan of the manga, but I'm curious about the cast, wonder who's the female cast ^^
