The sports year of 2022 will be a big one. After two years with limited spectators, this year might be the one where things get back to more normal conditions. Some of the most anticipated events will be on this year’s calendar. Here we will have a look at the ones to watch.

The Winter Olympics 4 – 20th of February:

For the third consecutive time, the Olympics will be held in Asia, this time in Beijing. Beijing will be the first city to host both the Summer and the Winter Olympics. The games will include sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, speed skating, and ice hockey. Ice hockey players from the NHL players will be able to participate again after they weren’t allowed to at the 2018 Winter games in Pyeongchang. The United States ice hockey team will look to redeem itself from their 7th place finish at the 2018 games.

Super Bowl LVI 13th of February:

For the first time, the Super Bowl will not be held on the first Sunday of February, due to the regular season being expanded. The largest single-day sports event for American tv viewers is an event not to be missed. It’s hard to predict which franchises will go all the way to the final, as no team looks unbeatable this year. The Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers will do anything to go through the playoffs and play for a home crowd at the SoFi Stadium, but a 44-year-old Tom Brady is always a force to be reckoned with and will try to go for his 8th Super Bowl ring. The UEFA Champions League Final 28th of May:

The Champions League Final will be held in Saint Petersburg at the Krestovsky stadium with a capacity of 67,800. The annual sporting event is one of the most anticipated football games in the whole world. The winner will not only take home the Champions League trophy but also get a chance to face the winner of the Europa League in a match for the UEFA Super Cup trophy. The defending champion Chelsea FC is one of the 16 remaining teams in the mix for the trophy. The FIFA World Cup 21st of November – 18th of December:

This year’s world cup has been marred by the controversial working conditions for foreign workers in the construction of the stadiums for the World Cup in Qatar. Several federations have raised concerns about the situation, but FIFA has retained Qatar as the host of the World Cup, even though Amnesty has tried to raise awareness regarding the problem: www.bbc.com. The finals will be the first not to be played in May, June or July, due to the extreme heat the country experiences during the summer. France is the defending champions, and Les Bleus will do everything in their power to defend their trophy and bring home back-to-back World Cups as the first country since Brazil in 1962.
