Moving into this new year and as the cricket season gets itself well underway, it only seems prevalent to dedicate some time and talk about some of the new England cricketers that it is worth keeping an eye out for in 2021. These players are all at slightly different stages in their careers; however, one of the things that combine them is an exceptional talent on the field.
Tom Lammonby (Somerset)
For the majority of people, 2020 was a pretty poor year. Well, Tom Lammonby is probably one of the only people (aside from Jeff Bezos) who can say that 2020 was one of the best years of their lives. He was a relatively unknown graduate at the start of the year before playing his heart out and becoming the breakthrough player of the Bob Willis Trophy. Tom managed to get his century against Worcestershire in the group stages and was an absolutely crucial component in Somerset reaching the final, where he managed to bag another second innings hundred.

Matt Milnes (Kent)
Matt Milnes was one of the leading wicket-taker in Division One of the 2019 Country Championship. He was on fine form back then and didn’t seem to let up in 2020 either, as he continued to impress when he began bowling for Kent. He is certainly on the radar for England but it may not be his time just yet as there are a lot of challenges in front of him at the minute. He is certainly on the cards for an international call-up at some point soon though.
Lewis Goldsworthy (Somerset)
England’s campaign in their U19 World Cup was disappointing, to say the least; however, one of the few shining lights that came through was that of Lewis Goldsworthy as he made an incredibly promising start to his career, which we will be excited to watch unfold. As an accurate left-arm spinner who also takes to the field to bat, Goldsworthy is the kind of player that a more senior England side will likely be snapping up in the next few years.
Will Jacks (Surrey)
No doubt that Will Jacks’ off-spin will probably be of particular interest to a senior England side in the next few years to come. He stood out amongst the crowd during the T20 Blast campaign in 2020 with both bat and ball. Whether his call-up will come anytime soon remains a mystery; however, there is little doubt that he will be stepping up to an international level in the future.

There are many more promising England cricketers who are be rising through the ranks, so it is incredibly exciting to wait and watch how they wind up making a prominent name for themselves. For now, though, all there is to do is watch and wait, which isn’t a bad thing.
