There’s nothing that says Christmas more than getting all your loved ones together to watch a nice movie, drink some mulled wine and listen to the awesome carols. However, despite this entire period seems to be involved in a spell that makes everything jolly and nice, there are some titles that you should simply avoid. Most TV channels will keep the best Christmas movies on heavy rotation, however, the less fortunate ones are also out there and since you are pretty tired of seeing the same titles, you might be tempted to try out something new. Here’s a list of movies you should steer clear of, no matter how tempted you may be.
Stars Wars Holiday Speciale
Even though it’s part of the same excellent franchise that gave us wonderful titles, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special is one of the most cringy movies ever made. It follows the story of Han Solo and Chewbacca attempting to return to the latter’s homeland to celebrate Life Day ( probably the Star Wars equivalent of Christmas). An encounter with the Galactic Empire ruins their plans, however, the movie was ruined right from the start with a shallow story, weird character positioning and the absence of George Lucas.
A Christmas Carol
Instead of watching this movie directed by Robert Zemeckis, you’re better off playing the online slot with the same name at a bitcoin casino. Betsoft released the slot “ A Christmas Carol” and if you’re a casino enthusiast you actually have more chances of having a great time playing it than watching the movie. Of course, both the movie and the online slot are based on Charles Dicken’s book, however, the film does not pay any kind of respect to that. The movie has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and got no less than four Golden Raspberry Awards. It’s too bad a huge actor such as Jim Carrey had to take part in such a project, however, that’s probably the only part that kept the movie from being banned.
When talking about bad Christmas movies, there’s no shortage of examples. Four Christmases, with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, doesn’t really look that bad at a first glance. However, if you take the time to go deeper into it, you discover it’s the wors Christmas-themed romantic comedies. The two successful actors play a couple that is trying to avoid their families and plans a Christmas trip to Fiji. However, their plans get ruined by a fog storm and then have to make their way to four different Christmas parties in one day.
An American Carol
We saved the worst for last. Sure, there are plenty of other titles that will easily go on this list. However, the most unforgivable Christmas movie of all time has to be An American Carol. It’s weird because when you look at it, it looks like it could have been decent. It’s directed by David Zucker, the guy behind the Naked Gun and it also stars four very good actors. However, presented from a politically conservative approach, the entire film is a parody of Michael Moore and American culture. The movie also approaches the theme from A Christmas Carol when the Michael Moore-like character is visited by three ghosts but everything is so twisted and hard to understand that you’ll likely not reach half of it. Oh and let’s not forget the movie was name Big Far Important Movie outside the US. It’s like they wanted it to fail.
