The world of vaping has grown tremendously over the past few years. There are so many different types of pens, kits, and flavors that cause people to feel overwhelmed when searching for an option that best suits their needs. It might feel like an exhausting feat trying to find safe CBD vape pens that actually work in the manner you expect them to, but this isn’t hard if you can recognize key ingredients when shopping and familiarizing yourself with vape pen options.
The Basics of CBD
The compounds of CBD come from the Cannabis Sativa L plant and interact with our endocannabinoid systems to provide homeostasis in our bodies. CBD is able to achieve this by communicating with certain receptors that provide signals for those areas of the body that need a little extra attention.
CBD Vape Pen Options
There are a few different categories we can discuss while looking at CBD vape pen options. First, we can look at what type of CBD oil you want your pen to contain, and then we can look at what type of CBD pen would work best for you because there are a couple of different options. CBD vape pens can be made with full-spectrum oil, broad-spectrum oil, or CBD isolate oil. The first option, full-spectrum oil, is made from the whole plant and will provide the highest level of therapeutic benefits because trace amounts of THC are still present. Those trace amounts of THC combined with all the other cannabinoids within the plant work together synergistically to enable the “entourage effect”.
If you want to completely avoid THC you can use a vape pen that has broad-spectrum oil or CBD isolate. You’re still receiving those powerful cannabinoids, but just not going to get the entourage effect that was just referenced.
You have the option of a CBD vape pen kit or a disposable CBD vape pen. The latter is a great option for people new to vaping because the pen is ready to use the right of the box just by taking a pull, and you simply toss when done. Many people look at the vape kit as something you graduate to once you feel comfortable with the disposable pen, but the choice is ultimately up to you.
Which Ingredients Are Safe?
If you’re checking out lab reports of prospective products, it’s helpful to know which ingredients are safe and which ones aren’t. CBD vapes are created with base ingredients: propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. You will also see the natural and/or artificial flavoring ingredients included. Natural flavorings are preferred because some of the artificial flavorings are chemical-based and can have negative effects on the body. We’ll go more in-depth on that very soon.
If we look at propylene glycol more closely we can see that it’s non-toxic and mostly utilized in food products to add flavor. It is sometimes utilized alone, but it’s smoother when it’s combined with vegetable glycerin. So, the verdict on propylene glycol is that it is safe.
Another ingredient commonly used is vegetable glycerin. It is a very thick substance that’s also non-toxic and most commonly used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products. It’s safe for consumption, but for the purpose of vaping it’s best combined with propylene glycol due to the dense consistency. So, the verdict on vegetable glycerin as an ingredient is safe.
On the other hand, if you run across diacetyl in an ingredient list, do not purchase it. This is an ingredient used to incorporate buttery flavors, and there’s a lot that is still unknown about the chemical. What is known is that it can potentially be very harmful to your health and produce lung issues. So, the verdict on diacetyl is not safe.
The last ingredient we’ll discuss that you need to know is vitamin e acetate. This is a synthetic version of vitamin e and can be extremely detrimental to your health. The CDC has linked this chemical to numerous hospitalizations and even deaths across the country. This ingredient is not safe.
Did You Know Certain Flavors Are Unsafe?
Those exotic flavor profiles have to be one of the main selling points of the vape industry. Who doesn’t want to get their daily CBD with the sweet taste of cookies and cream or an island, tropical slushie? Well, some of your favorite flavor profiles might not be the best option to choose when vaping.
Cinnamon is one an age-old classic and many people love it because it leaves their breath smelling fabulous, but the chemicals used to create this flavor are some of the most toxic chemicals you could expose your body to. Even though it is approved by the FDA, it can impair the body’s ability to rid itself of mucus, and if you didn’t know, mucus is the breeding ground for a host of health issues. So, if you see cinnamaldehyde, just know that it is not safe.
You can pretty much find a vanilla flavor in just about every product you can think of, but the vanillin flavor chemical is not safe when inhaled and has been linked to cell death and can have negative effects on your heart health. This ingredient is not safe.
Vape Pens Won’t Get You “High”
Hemp-derived CBD products can only contain up to 0.3% THC, so it’s not going to have any psychoactive effects no matter what oil the pen contains (full spectrum, broad-spectrum, or CBD isolate). Instead, you will feel an overall calmness flow over your body and your muscles will start to relax because CBD is most praised for its relaxation capabilities.
What Can CBD Vape Pens Help Me With?
Some of us suffer from everyday aches and pains and others suffer from chronic pain. The good news is that CBD Vape Pens can assist both groups by easing the pain and relaxing those muscles that were once tight, tense, and inflamed. It seems like CBD has magical capabilities, but really it just boils down to a science. As discussed earlier, our body’s endocannabinoid system naturally interacts with the cannabinoids to maintain balance within the body, so if your body gets a signal from a receptor that something is off. The CBD is going to work through your endocannabinoid system to smooth things out. There are two primary cannabinoid receptors in our body: CB1 and CB2.
Because CBD is able to function in this manner, it has the capability to help with memory, concentration, mood, pain, anxiety, depression, pain management, neurological issues, and more.
Now that you know a little more about CBD vape pens, you can be confident in making your purchase and know that you found a quality pen that is just right for you!
