Winters can be really long. Yes, there are a lot of winter sports and activities that can be done, but not everybody is into the outdoors. And, even then, it does last a long time even if you do enjoy the cold. This year in particular looks like it can be an exceptionally long one, too.

This being the case, it makes sense that you will want your home to be as cozy as possible since you are going to be spending a lot of time indoors this winter. There are a number of things you can do that will help you actually enjoy the long, dark nights and short days.

In this article, I will give you some ideas on how to make the most out of the season by setting up your house to be able to enjoy it.

Create a cozy vibe

The first order of business is to make your home feel like a winter lodge somewhere deep in the Alps. this way it is inviting to come home to and spend time lazily reading a book or sipping a glass of wine with your loved one.

If you have a fireplace then you are already halfway there. Even if you don’t need it to heat your home, it will be a great way to create the coziest of atmospheres. There is nothing like whiling away the hours in front of a crackling fire and watching the flames.

If you don’t have a fireplace, then putting candles around is another great way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Put out plenty of them to really light up a room with a warm glow. 3 wick candles are ideal for this as they give off a lot of light.

Throw blankets on a couch, practically call out for you to sit and get comfy under them and drink a hot cup of tea with your favorite book. And decorating the fixtures like a fireplace mantel and tabletops is a good way to get into the spirit of the winter season.

Set up an activities corner

Many parents do this for their children in their homes. They create an area for them that is dedicated for arts and crafts and other activities to keep them occupied.

You should do the same thing except for adult-oriented. Something like a board game corner where you have a table and some comfy chairs with a shelf full of board games to pass those long nights with your friends. If you love cards, then a poker table will come in very handy.

It can even be an arts and crafts corner just as you would have for kids, except it will be a bit more organized. This is a good opportunity to take up a hobby like knitting or making models and having an area set aside for you to do this will encourage you to continue. If it’s a chore to set up space for this every time you want to pass the time then you are less likely to do it.

Also, if you have even more space, then setting up a room with a pool table or air hockey table is even more ideal. That way you can have friends over to play some games that have you moving around a little at least.

Set up a yoga space

Winter is a time that adds stress and pounds to our lives and body. It is easy to fall into a rut when there isn’t much sunlight and we get sedentary. To come out of the winter with a sane body and mind, it pays to beat the blues away by doing yoga.

To make sure that you get the most out of it you should have a space dedicated to your practice. Just like with the activities corner for hobbies, if you have to make a big effort to practice then you are not likely to do it as often as needed.

All you really need is a few square feet where you can put a mat down. Then, you should have some space to decorate around it. Some natural features like some stones or a little waterfall fountain are great ways to get you into a calm spirit and ready to focus on your yoga.

If you need to do lessons, then make sure that you can put a small screen for a computer or TV so you can watch the lessons while you do the poses.
